Right about 8:20 Peter Frampton talks about this in his book. He was backing up and ran into the mic in front of the amp and almost fell over backwards. His tech came up from behind and caught him. You can see his arm if you look fast enough. But Peter barely missed a note. What a pro! I think that's what made Eric smile
I’ve watched this so many times, The joy emitted from Peter is infectious. Peter is 69 in this one, it was from a guitar festival in 2019. I agree with you about his voice, I was never that impressed with it when he was younger. Now it is so rich. He released a video with The Doobie Brothers in 2020 of EricClapton’s - Let it Rain. You can tell he just loves what he’s doing. I read his autobiography that came out a year or two ago. It really amazed me how humble he is. He was always shocked when others asked him to play with them. Sad thing is that he suffers from an autoimmune disease that affects his muscles, which will eventually reduce his ability to play.
Oh, and a personal Frampton moment: While I was in high school, flying back to Columbus from Providence, R. I. we witnessed him running through the airport trying to catch a flight with his guitar case in hand. My family was attending my grandfather's funeral and we found out he was playing that night. We were pissed we didn't have tickets for the concert, but at least got to see him dash by. 🙂
Love how Frampton played right back at Clapton during their mini guitar duel. I thought he gave back ever bit as good as he was having thrown at him from Clapton, and in some cases better, IMO.
Peter was thrilled beyond words to finally share a stage with Eric. They've known each other for so long. Eric was the guitar player on the original Beatles session, the first person ever to play on one of their records.
Apart from the original version from the White Album, you should check out the acoustic version from Anthology 3, and the LOVE version for the Cirque du Soleil, which has a string arrangement by George Martin.
You should check out his Live in Detroit '99 performances if you want more. He did an instrumental called Off the Hook that got him nominated for a Grammy. His Lines on My Face performance in that show is amazing even by Peter Frampton standards. And he opened with a number called Lying that was a minor hit in the 80's, but like most of his work it's better live.
I had a big crush on Peter Frampton when I was a girl! And I still have, hahaha! That smile of his... And this performance...they were challenging each other! Beautiful!
Anytime you hear Eric Clapton play guitar, it will be some of the best guitar work you have ever heard. Usually ranked as the best guitar player ever. Some will argue there are others that can claim that title, but few can. He is a master. Frampton not so much. He had two big albums that blew up the charts in the late 70s' and he didnt do anything after that. He was trying to do the sex symbol thing, which tarnished any critical credibility he may have received. Good to see him happy though. You can tell he was enjoying the hell out of this. Who wouldn't though. Some Frampton tunes are Show Me The Way, Baby I Love Your Way, Do You Feel Like I Do and I'm In You.
I guess you missed all of Frampton’s success and Grammy for Fingerprints. And it wasn’t Peter that wanted to be a heartthrob. It was his horrible manager. He admits he’s no vocalist and all he’s ever wanted to do is play guitar…. He is having great success these days.
Yeah take your self less seriously 👏 absolutely 🤣 nice to see this great performance. Usually people reaction to the Prince Hall of Fame which is great, but love this version.
Great reaction Anton! Clapton is Clapton, and a wonderful musician. However, Peter Frampton is quite exceptional as well. He's one of my favorite guitarists. His playing is quite melodic and can have a really jazzy feel to it. His first solo album, Wind of Change is incredible. I'd suggest checking out a few cuts: the title cut Wind of Change, Alright, and his take on Jumping Jack Flash. His former band, Humble Pie, was superb too. Check out The Light, Shine On, and Stone Cold Fever from the Shine On album. Frampton is a great vocalist and guitar player, but also a great great songwriter. A truly wonderful artist.
This performance was all about Frampton and I really liked it too! The original song (by George Harrison of Beatles fame, and a great guitarist in his own right) has been changed quite a bit here, losing even some of its melody. The original is iconic, heavily covered and one of his standout pieces. Clapton played on the original, as George often played on his songs. I really hope you hear the original soon, and, as someone else mentioned, the one by Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Prince, Steve Winwood and George’s son Dhani. It’s a tribute to George and, I agree, phenomenal. That cover or original will blow you away. But this Is nice for what it is.
Have you seen this song performed by Tom Perry, Jeff Lynn, Steve Winwood and Prince? It is PHENOMENAL. Prince is just absolute genius and apparently never even rehearsed his part beforehand. Please watch it if you haven’t before, even if you don’t react to it! As a music lover, you will LOVE it. Guaranteed!
Wow!!! First of all, great reaction! I was in my low teens when they hit the scene. Two master class guitarists. The only thing that would have made this better is if Carlos Santana was playing too. Enjoyed this, keep it up. ❤️✌️
Peter is an extraordinary person and musician. A true virtuoso.
Clapton just did a show on the 8th at the Royal Albert Hall. If you look for it , you can see almost the whole show .
Gooo Frampton! Loved this.

Still got it and still enjoying it all.
