    "If Mercy reasons justice
The earthly power will be like God's."
Portia conclude that justice is supreme, when justice is combined with Mercy you become a god. It is a mightiest thing more than the mightiest one.
Thank you so much mam for recalling the value of a Mercy in human life.

The very characteristics of mercy is that there is no compulsion in its exercise. It drops freely as the gentle rain from heaven on the earth below. It is beyond the power of a man and law to compell a man to be merciful. Mercy is a free voluntary blessing. Mercy carries with a two-fold and a double blessing. It benefits both the giver and the receiver. It is not an attribute of weakness. It's effect is the greatest and the noblest when exercised by the great and the powerful, thou the law gives them and absolute power to enforce justice. It is the greatest quality even in the most powerful man and also a noblest in a royal king than the crown which he wears.
Mercy is something far above this earthly power. It is a noble quality coming from the very heart of a king. It is a tribute to Almighty God and the power of kings is most devine in its working when justice is mingled with mercy.

    Well...
Shakespeare is also known as Bard of Avon and Merchant of Venice is a remedy play,it's a kind of playfull of wits, humour and comic elements and role of portia was flawless her mercy speech really shows how much intense one can be the way she had presented in disguise in a role of Balthazar was really very much appreciated. Even the villain shylloc also did his part well. The use of the words that he had used is outstanding... The Merchant of Venice was one of his finest collections.
Thank you Ma'am for recalling the great plot.

    Good morning mam!
The merchant of venice portia's speech on "Mercy" - willam shakesphere :
If mercy reasons justice the earthly power will be doth then show like when mercy seasons justice.
" The quality of mercy " is a soliloquy by Portia in William Shakespeare's.
The merchant of venice ; it occurs during act 4, scene 1, set in a Venetian court of justice. It is the speech in which Portia begs shylock of mercy.
In her speech to shylock, Portia, disguised as the learned young lawyer Balthasar who is sent in lieu of an ailing Doctor Bellario, tries to caution the ururer against his thirst for revenge against Antonio. She argues for the Christian virtue of mercy.
Because the duke cannot be an impartial judge, he was written Doctor Bellario and in his stead, Balthasar appears ( Portia in disguise ). She addresses shylock, hoping to sway him to not let his hatred for Antonio blind himself to the possible consequences of his revenge. But, shylock knows that he has that in his side, so he insists on Antonio's honoring the contract that they made. In her address to shylock, then, Portia tries to appeal to his sense of right and to his heart.

THIS VIDEO IS ABOUT SPEECH OF PORTIA ON MERCY.
Portia says it is blessed twice because it blesses both the receiver and the giver of mercy. She says that the more power a person has the more mercy is a credit to his or her character. If you have the power to be cruel but are merciful, people will praise you all the more for choosing the humane path.
Explaination is very good to understand.
    Thank you madam

The quality of mercy" is a monologue by portia in William Shakespeares the merchant of Venice; it occurs during Act 4, Scene 1, set in a Venetian Court of Justice. It is the speech in which Portia begs shylock for mercy. The speech is regarded as one of the great speeches in Shakespeare, and it is an example of the esteem Shakespeare held for those who showed mercy.

The quality of Mercy speech appears in Shakespeare play"The Merchant of Venice".
When Antonia cannot repay the loan to Shylock, he asks a pound of flesh from Antonio's body. The portia who is in disguised position as a lawyer requesting to show mercy over Antonio.she talks about mercy as follows..
Portia pleads audience to prefer mercy , an important virtue of christianity.she says it is not stained. Mercy is abundant and freely poured on the earth by God like the rain. She says it blesses both the receiver and the giver of mercy. She also says that a person with more mercy, has a credit in his character. people praises those who has mercy. She calls mercy God's attribute. she understands mercy is glorious. She says if Shylock were held to the same standards as Antonio, he deserves a very harsh fate. Finally ,She asks shylock , which path he would prefer mercy or justice.
So, Portia speech over mercy tells us that a person can benefit from forgiveness by forgiving others.
