- Pedro Ballester was born in Manchester on 22 May 1996. The eldest of three brothers, he was brought up in the north of England. From an early age he stood out for his warmheartedness and generosity. He was renowned for being a hard-working student, and a good friend to all. While in his late teens, his deep faith led him to dedicate his life to God in Opus Dei, seeking to love Jesus Christ above all things through his studies, friendships and ordinary life.
As a numerary member of Opus Dei, Pedro received the gift of apostolic celibacy and made himself completely available to attend to the apostolic undertakings and the formation of other members of the Prelature.
In December 2014, shortly after starting at university, he was diagnosed with advanced cancer of the pelvis. Pedro saw his illness as an opportunity to embrace the Cross of Jesus, and joyfully offered up his sufferings for the Pope, the Church, and all souls. The fortitude and serenity with which he bore his illness to the end inspired numerous people to come closer to God and the Church.
Pedro rendered up his soul to God on 13 January 2018. From the very day of his death, reports have been received of favours obtained through his intercession.

I did live with Pedro in Netherhall House for barely a month before he was diagnosed but he quickly and strongly struck me as someone who was certainly on the track to holiness (on top of the fact that he was tremendosly knowledgaeable, curious, open minded and fun), or as I'd put it in my head when i met him "man this guy is almost perfect!".
Some days before he was diagnosed, we went out to yard to play football and I remember him running with remendous difficulties, of course none of us nearly even imagined what was really going on and I joked with him in Spanish saying "hey dude, you're getting old!", he kept on playing and never complained about the pain he was in. Also, after he left Netherhall I got called in to take his place in a theater play he and some of the guys had planned for later that year - I did try my best, but it was his role.
Seeing this documentary makes me really think about the example he's set for us, the things that really matter in life. Pedrito, ruega por nosotros!

What a great video! Like so many of the people in this film, I also experienced first hand his capacity to immerse himself in the things that mattered to you while deflecting attention away from himself. He did it so elegantly and so genuinely that it only dawned the you later that the whole conversation was about you and not about him. And he did it even when he was in considerable pain. Pedro's was a hidden heroism fuelled by his love of God.

What an Amazing Purpose -filled precious young life Pedro! You have impacted and touched the world with the purpose you have fulfilled in your destiny to win many to the kingdom of God! Pedro’s life can be aligned to Apostle Paul, a disciple of Jesus who penned “ For me to live is Christ; to die is gain.”
Wow! An incredible role model for young people. I have a lot to learn from him!
Such an amazing example for all of us.
