16: 20 i think i have a good way to visualize that one, imagine a phrase you said a couple weeks ago. now imagine a phrase you said soon after. now imagine those two phrases said at the same time somehow, since there is no time or space between then. extrapolate that to the begginig of time all the way to the end of time, and boom, voice of GOD. In theory they can kow all that there is to know about creation, in practice, no. just the glimpse of a whisper. and that's enough.
According to the myth, Judas did what he did to force Jesus to do the right thing. Apocryphal books are better at saying this. But paladins will refer to Charlemagne's Twelve Peers.
@@Yidhra23I just read that word again. I hate you for making me think I about that. Thinking is also a crime as thinking can let in sin, repent now for your sins! This is approved by the church.
In hindsight my rambling about the Eucharist wasn't wholly clear: In (most?) Catholic traditions you have the Sacrament of the Eucharist (one of the seven Sacraments) which is where you consume the body and blood of Jesus Christ in remembrance of the Last Supper where he gave bread and wine to The Crew and said "this is my body etc etc". Some people believe this is a symbolic gesture, other people (Roman Catholics and some Anglo-Catholics, I think) believe in the Transubstantiation which is that the bread and wine is transformed into the body and blood of Jesus during the Sacrament of the Eucharist. SO basically Communicants probably eat the body and drink the blood of a clone of Jesus in order to be 17ft tall and invade Hell, apparently. I had to go to church a LOT as a kid. Like, a lot. I'm a bit rusty now but it's amazing how this stuff starts to filter back through when you think about it, even after a good 15 year gap or whatever.
Communicants can’t go into hell, there are communicants, communicant anti-tank hunters, and paladins. You can think of them like first born marines, primaris marines, and primarchs, only the paladins can enter hell
The level of detail in this setting is sick. The Christ-cloned Paladins numbering at 12 and including a traitor mirror the 12 Disciples of Jesus and the traitor Judas in a really cool way. The Observers having a limited Path to Victory (hello fellow Wildbow fans) is a really neat touch. The overall aesthetics are properly Gothic and grim in the best sort of war. As grimdark settings go, I enjoy this one IMMENSELY.
Communicants are wild. Also apparently it is canon that Iron Wall Sultanate could in fact have Snake Girls. Make of that what you will. And I do like how New Antioch is basically Cadia of TC. And all of Hell shenanigans mean that Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth still exists so W Poland.
24:55 "Cardinal-General" may sound silly, but remember that the Popes used to be kings who had their own armies and, yes, there _were_ Cardinal Generals who commanded those armies.
Quick detail about Communicants vs. Paladins - Paladins are Communicants but not all Communicants are Paladins. They have not been able to produce more Paladins most likely because you need a set of specific genetics in order to become a Paladin. Everyone else who partakes of the blood and flesh of a Meta-Christ (yes, A, there is more than one) turns into a regular Communicant, which means they grow to ogre-like size and become strong and resilient but that's about it. Not sure but I think it was implied that normal Communicants are also a bit dim, mind and body not entirely taking the infusion of pure holiness well.
iirc the First Third and Seventh ones are the only ones mentioned but I'm not clear if those are the only ones that took. (those numbers being divine for various reasons)
i think its implied that both the partaker and the metachrist sample have to be of extremely high quality AND be highly compatible in order for you to become a paladin. which is so rare that they just have not been able to make any more
So “Mendelist Order” is almost definitely a reference to “Gregor Mendel” a Austrian monk who is commonly referred to as the father of genetics known most notably for his experiments involving inheritance of traits in pea plants Mendel is to genetics what Darwin is to evolution So yeah I’m guessing “mendelist order” is a group of monk geneticists Very fiting considering what they do
As someone who can't focus on just one thing for very long so never reads all the things I want to read, listening to you read them out for me while I do something else is very enjoyable, thank you for this unintended audiobook-like service
I love the horrific universe this game is set in and it's awesome to see you cover it. I hope I get to see some more people cover this terrifying universe.
I ended up having the KS for this for a lot. The art, lore and minis are all just so cool, and the fact that the rules are very reminiscent of Mordheim is great.
A few small things I have been thinking about the metachrist. 1. How much do you have to each for mutation to occur and is it proportional to the amount eaten? 2. Can the metameat be mass produced for emergency berserker MREs? 3. What happens if you feed some to an animal? 4. Is the one eating being baptised first a factor?
So happy to see you doing more of these! Looking up Trench Crusade lore is a minefield of awfulness, and having a TH-camr of your caliber doing it is a balm upon my heart
I confess, when i saw first video because as warhammer pilled as i am, i caoud not care less about potential warhammer comprison. Then i read "cloning jesus" and didnt even click it, but imideatly ran back to first video. Now i am here
Yey more Kirioth! Always welcome sir, thanks for covering more of this. It is a fantastic setting and really interesting approach to world building. Also love your hanging storage set up by the door. Don't suppose youd be willing to say what it is, I have a boiler room as my hobbying set up and that would be a life saver! Keep up the good work sir and all the best.
this stuff is so cool, im loving the Serpents and hopeful for the Dracula stuff specifically. IDK i mistly just eant to convert up like a gnarly 20ish demonic forces
Maybe it's some kind of holy resonance thing. There can only be twelve after communion with a Meta-Christ because Jesus had twelve apostles. Maybe all the Meta-Christs and Paladins have to die before they can start again.
I love these videos. Beforehand the only other people on TH-cam willing to read about the lore have been...less that savoury characters. Thank you for finding the time to read the PDF!
Edit - 12 Apostles/ Disciples, whatever. 12 Paladins, can't make more... 12 disciples of Jesus. They consume the flesh of Meta Jesus clone. Defo a link there...
I can see parallels between New Antioch and Cadia, and between the Communicants/Paladins and space marines. 40k definitely has plenty of old-school UK religious education in its DNA too. 🙂
if we're going full 40k, i think that communicants would be like space marines and paladins would be primarchs, if primarchs were just people who took superhumanly well to the gene seed
Love the coverage of this! Also enjoy the kinda different style of lore breakdowns. Would love to see more similar things for waehammer and maybe other things too like conquest an argument of kings.
16:02 The Observers hear the voice of God, but God’s voice never decays. This means they are hearing everything God ever said, everything God is currently saying, and everything God will ever say, all at once, from the beginning of existence, to the end of days. And they can never again NOT HEAR IT.
Wait... if people believe the wafer and wine literally becomes the flesh and blood of jesus... Do they think they're cannibals? or does it not count because it's also sort of god? But that doesn't sound any better... 'the devourer of gods' is literally a dark souls boss. It doesn't sound like something you'd want to be.
Transubstantiation has always been weird, which is why most pagans were initially wary of the first Christians. Nero accused them of being a sect of cannibals and that this was the reason why they started the fire of Rome (spoilers, they didn't, he just needed a scapegoat).
Yeah I think you shoukd give context on the religious stuff, I mean the most populous countries on earth India and China are not especially abrahamic percentage wise. Also for historical context, somwone could be watching this saved on a drive 109 years later.
I have to confess (that wasn't a deliberate joke btw ;p) as awesome as these miniatures and the accompanying artwork looks, I personally can't get past the "what if 40K 'cept it grimdark Catholicism though?" theming and inspiration for the setting. Abrahamic faiths IRL are euphemistically grimdark enough in my humble opinion, and any engagement I might have with Trench Crusade would be forever spoiled by the mental images of a bunch zealously Christian right-wingers frothing themselves into a masturbatory frenzy over it. I'm pleased for anyone sincerely excited about it, you do you Kirioth. But nah, I don't want it...
While I get your thoughts, I love the vibe of the setting and I utterly refuse to let any kind of morons from whichever end of the political bs spectrum ruin this for me. They have taken enough already.
from what i've heard in these two videos trench crusade portrays christianity (and everything else) in an extremely negative light where all the most barbaric and weird aspects of it are dialed up to 100, so your assertion that zealous christians would jump onboard are pretty wide of the mark. if anything they'd roundly denounce it for misenterpreting their beliefs and being generally blasphemous. i can't see the idea of cloning christ going down particularly well with actual christians, zealously right-wing or not. and i mean, just a suggestion but you could always ignore things you don't like rather than letting them spoil something for you. there are plenty of dickhead fans of all forms of media, with that attitude how do you enjoy anything at all?
Well, a bunch of TradCath did try to invade the discord server and to engage in their habitual degeneracy (xenophobic slurs and all that), but they were quickly shutdown and since then they have been calling the game "woke" and try to dissuade anyone from enjoying it.

12 Paladins...12 Apostles. 1 traitor. That tracks!
The name origin is also Charmaine's 12 Paladins, so some historical context is there as well.

Please more trench crusade lore reads!
Thank you so much for continuing this little series, Kirioth!
