    We always do an all nighter with the Thursday Night Fight Club crew for summer solstice and this year I got my hands on a brand new Santa Cruz Blur just in time to light it up and head out. Unfortunately the weather was pretty grim so there's no gorgeous sunset/sunrise footage from the moors, just a bunch of mist and murk until it rained so hard I had to stop filming. If you can handle that though there's 108km of ride review and feedback and a quick sodden sign off at the end. Keep tuned for a full tech talk round and live ride review soon as I get the weather for it though.
    Thanks to Santa Cruz UK for lending me a brand new demo bike, thanks to Giro Cycling UK, Peaty's and Crud for sponsoring the channel and my Patreon subscribers for their pledges that help make spending the time on these edits possible. Guy, your review inspired me to purchase this bike and your video inspired me to ride the SDW overnight last weekend. I truly hope your content inspires many more cyclists in the way it has inspired me, keep up the great work.

    This bike, the new Scott Spark, and the Transition Spur are all utilizing flex stays. Is the weight savings worth the loss of actual mechanical 4-bar linkage? These bikes are basically single pivot with kinematic curve adjusted by the swing or rocker linkage actuating the shock. Let's say for 120mm of rear travel or less.

    • @hb7030

      My last bike was an older Specialized Marathon Epic Carbon and I have the new 2022 Blur TR and the suspension is amazing. The rear is as smooth as butter though I'm sure the 2.4 tires also help. Thing is a rocket uphill and down.

      It depends what you want from your bike. Scott is stiffer and more efficient in feel and can tackle bigger stuff head on. Blur has more whip and flow but still pedals really well.

      @@GuyKesTV Thanks. I mainly do XC racing but I want a bit more versatility. So stiffness and more travel, I think I'm leaning more and more towards Scott. The Blur TR version at the same price point is a pound heavier and does not get the AXS.

    I have a Blur on pre-order in same spec. Expected to arrive in about 1 week actually. Afraid I may turn down the bike and get my money back though as the frame is black and I'm really starting to like that new color. Wasn't a fan initially but the black is not doing it for me. at $9500 USD it must....shop has said if I don't take the bike they may not see more until 2023. No ETA on more and not even able to order one.

      Because it was night and bad visibility with some random rocky trails I went higher than normal so 22 front, 25 rear. I weigh 69kg so probably 75-80 with kit, food, water lights added on

      @@GuyKesTV thanks I appreciate it. I have a few kilos on you at 92 before I even gear up haha. I bought some rimpact pro inserts so I could go lower. I usually have trouble going below 28 but that’s also on account of my reckless riding style.

      I have the 2022 TR version and weight 68kg. I've found my sweet spot with 20front and 21 rear. Of course everyone's gauge and pumps can vary. I found that with the 2.4s even one psi lower felt like the sidewall was rolling over too much on the corners during high speed descents. I'm an expert level rider. I found just 1 psi less was really nice if I didn't want to go fast but wanted to do say a 3-4 hour ride over mixed terrain. It's fairly rocky where I ride. Send me a message when you get your bike and let me know how it rides.

    • @drgrowden
      @drgrowden 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cvdavis I finally got it and have gone on two rides. It’s pretty plush compared to my Rocky Mountain instinct which abounds funny but it’s true. I’ve tried 22psi with he rimpact pro inserts and they work great. I have so much more grip on the corners. Before I could only go down to about 28psi. I did switch out all the SRAM components for Shimano as well as a OneUp dropper instead of the reverb. Im currently shopping around for carbon bars and a 70mm stem instead of the 60mm. Im hoping to get out and do some hills tomorrow.

    My local shop currently has the blur xc in stock but was looking for the downcountry blur tr. But who knows when I can get a tr so should I just get the xc version and maybe update fork/shock later on to make into a tr?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm being consistently amazed on what the skinny Sid will handle. Battered it round Ilkley moor last week chasing Hightower's, Forbiddens and bigger Trek's etc and it didn't skip a beat.

    • @cvdavis
      @cvdavis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love my TR version. If you are big on fast descents and like to ride gnarly downhills then wait for the TR version. If you just like getting fast Strava times on XC segments then go 100mm. Waiting is always tough but you'll love your bike and be happy with your decision regardless of what you decide.
