This is a couple car review of the all-new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. This is the first vehicle built as part of the Nissan Renault Mitsubishi alliance and the Outlander is built on a shared platform with the Nissan Rogue. 2.5L 4-cylinder engine matched with a CVT with super all wheel control,
181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. The Outlander is the only SUV in the compact class to come standard with three rows of seats. The seats can be flexibly arranged with multiple configurations to suit the number of passengers and their luggage. The second-row seats have a sliding and reclining function, as well as a 40:20:40 split division, allowing two adult passengers to comfortably sit in the second row even when carrying long items such as skis. All trims, but the base model get a heated steering wheel, a hands-free power lift-gate with adjustable height and a wireless charger, panoramic sunroof. The 9” touchscreen with Android Auto and wireless Apple Carplay, 20” wheels is standard on the LE, SEL and GT trims. A 12.3” digital driver display, heated rear seats, quilted leather seats and quilted door inserts are standard on the SEL and GT trims. We are testing the GT Premium trim; which has the two-tone leather combo in saddle tan and black. The GT trims also come with a head-up display if that is something you are interested in. One of the biggest selling features is the ten year Mitsubishi warranty.

Ive only ever bought Chevy/GMC, recently I purchased this 2022 outlander. One of my reasons for this brand change was the warranty and price. Im enjoying it. It drives nice and the Bose music system is kick ass.

@@Motormouth... and it is terrible; a completely stupid idea for a possible AWD vehicle, even before the failure rate of the Jatco CVT, requiring replacements after much attempt to shift blame by Mitsubishi. You simply cannot be reading the info online about the reducing of Mitsubishi qualities by the dilution with failing Nissan components.
Body work is the easiest thing to change in any vehicle to convince the public there is quality underneath.

As an owner of a 2015 Outlander I really like the improvements and design of the new model. Like like Zack said, it is a "value oriented " brand. It's a lot of car for the money. Which translates to a lot of hard plastics in the interior. This new model changes that stigma. Is it me or do you see a little resemblance to BMW on the rear.? Great review Zack & Andrea !

Looks like Mitsubishi has stepped up their game as far as quality and design of interior. In the past their interiors were bland and somewhat cheap looking. Exterior looks okay, different however not a game changer. I like that they included a 3rd row, not a lot of room however in a pinch its better than squeezing someone into the cargo area - not that I have done that... The challenge for Mitsubishi is the concern most have regarding their long term future, also they don't have the same support network as some of their competitors. In the past they depended on being a leader on value and long warranties and, hybrid options, good to see they are improving design quality.

The current PHEV model has only 5 seats. 2022 model overall looks awesome except for the fuel economy. That is why a lot of people will wait for the PHEV model. I hope, it won't be very expensive compare to normal petrol model and could justify the fuel economy in long run.

As a Mitsubishi Lancer owner I would consider it (since I've had such good luck with my Lancer over ten years), but the biggest problem is the spotty dealer network. There is only one from the San Francisco Bay Area to Portland OR. Even a city the size of Sacramento doesn't have a Mitsubishi dealer anymore (like it did when I bought mine). My car has been very reliable and I actually never used the warranty, but I did need to get some minor recall work done and it was a pain. So yeah, its a deal breaker for me.

Awesome review really enjoy your style & detailed information you provide. I would like to know more information on the PHEV as I had a 2014 PHEV & loved it (regret selling it to get a 7 seater Prado). Currently there is no information available in Australia about the new PHEV though for me this is the most important factor when discussing any new Outlander. Not a big fan of the front grille especially the lights as it reminds me of the Jeep Cherokee that looks very ugly. If you can do a video on the new PHEV that'd be unreal & very much anticipated by millions I'm sure especially the EV range & if it will be a 7 seater.

One big plus for the Outlander is that it’s built in Japan and Mitsubishi has a longer warranty.

Two time Outlander owner here (2009 GT V6 and currently 2018 SE Touring PHEV). The car has been fairly reliable but the problem is their dealership network is weak. My dealer I brought both cars from have closed and the closest one in my city has also closed recently, making service rather a pain. The new design is sharp compared to the outgoing cars but there's a lot more Nissan than ever.
I can't see myself in another but maybe the 2023 PHEV could change my mind.

OMG, Vancouver!!!! Had to subscribe immediately. Currently driving a 2015 Outlander, just love it. Was going to get the 2020 PHEV because of the sale price, but then I got wind of the new 2021 model and I just love the new look. But I need to wait for the PHEV model. Need that one to use the HOV lane. Got caught once too many times at the wrong end of the George Massey Tunnel without a 2nd person in the car.

Thanks guys for your honest and Canadian review of cars. I do like this car, my question is How strong is the dealership service for this brand in Canada? I did own up to few years ago a Suzuki XS 4 hatchback. I love the car but when they walk away from Canada became a nightmare to get parts to service the car. My worry is this may happen with this brand, what is your opinion about that? Thanks and keep up the good work. Toronto

This is a rebadged Nissan Rogue. I'm not sure if this also failed the IHSS. The Rogue got a 2 star side impact rating. On May 2021 is a retest of the Rogue. We'll find out soon..... I prefer the Rogue though over the Outlander.

A nice review, and I think the Outlander looks great inside and out. Not available in Australia till October, I believe and the PHEV (the one I'd like most) not till 2022. Andrea has interesting pronunciation of "Meeeetsoobeeeeshee", and it's nice to hear "Mazda" pronounced correctly instead of "Mozda" like in a country to the south of Canada.

This SUV is turning head's, and definitely looks nicer than the Nissan Rogue. For anyone hesitating about purchasing a Mitsubishi, talk to any owner, chances are they are loyal to the brand, and have purchased more than one. For anyone to young to understand Zack's "Alliance" reference to Renault, the Alliance was a popular model from 1983-1987, marketed as the Encore/Renault 9 in North America at the time. Great review-:)

I like the front end of the Rogue, but the rear of the Outlander. I also prefer the 2-rows of the Rogue over the 3 of the Outlander as I would never use a 3rd row. Also, in the US, it's MUCH easier to find a convenient Nissan dealership vs. Mitsubishi. I think it's funny that they don't complain about the engine even though it's naturally aspirated and only 181hp, but on any other car, we'd never stop hearing about how it's not turbo-charged and has a CVT. Why does Mitsubishi get a special pass?

  • @dave1956
    @dave1956 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I am reluctant to buy a Mitsubishi as I wonder if the company will be in business as long as the 10 year warranty. I also am concerned about resale value. I hope that I am wrong on all counts.

It looks awesome! Almost like Kia Seltos or a larger Nissan Kicks (or something with a floating roof style - but boxier) ... married to the front end of a ‘90s Infiniti a Q45. Its an odd style... but I think it works. I’m mostly impressed with the interior quality. Being quiet and soft touch on the inside is a higher on my priority list than exterior style and power. I spend most of my hours on the inside of a car, not the outside looking at the car (unless I’m doing dishes - kitchen window). This new Outlander, I suspect, will be a hit - great starting price too. Thanks for the video, Andrea and Zack. Well done.

Note: Being colour blind myself... it looks like Andrea is topless on the thumbnail picture (a smart jacket without a shirt or bra). If it were an attention grabbing trick... it worked.

Best value 7 seater at the moment... its 5-10k cheaper than competitors... i think the closest competition is kia sorento but sorento is more expensive and really only a 4 seater once you go in trim since it becomes captain chairs.... for 7 seaters this one is better. Only the fog lights on the side would be nice with little less bubbly ( more like the concept car) and a little more power would have been nice in the car but really , overall i think ill replace my Honda CRV touring with this one for family since my family becomes bigger... i find even with 2 kids , dog .. 4-5seats aint enough.. 7 ish is just right

Zack, I like Mitsubishi and my family is in the market for a new vehicle.
Is Mitsubishi committed to North America? Am I going to purchase a Mitsubishi only to find them yank their North American dealer network like they have in the UK?

You should have compared this to both the CRV and the RAV-4. Although neither of those have the 3rd row seating, they're likely to be where buyers will be coming from. As you said yourself, most people buying this will have the 3rd row down, 95% of the time. People needing a 3rd row on a regular basis will probably buy bigger and more expensive anyway. 3rd row is just one characteristic of this vehicle but overall size, price point and engine configuration are more relevant for determining what it's competition is.
