Beautiful axe :) I own the H009 model (900g head, 50 cm handle) and truly love it. It can be used with one or two hands, big enough to split firewood and fell some medium size trees, yet it is small enough to fit into a backpack. And most importantly, it is not as expensive as the classic line or the ones that Gransfors bruk makes and i am not afraid to actually use it. It is a working man tool :)
Thanks for this video. An axe is a greatly underestimated woodscraft tool. Axes (or hatchets) were always considered esential by early woodsmen. You showed just some of the versatility. I believe that knives and axes should be considered together when one is choosing bushcraft tools. Oldtimers here in Montana wouldn't go out without them.

The name of the company is: "Council Tool", their in North Carolina. Their top end Axes are called "Velvicut".......second to none! Right now, their the Hottest Axe company on the planet. Council makes various tools for forest fire-fighters and law-enforcement. Six-pound maul is great value. Seek truth, then speak. Nothing against China here, but not applicable here.

depends on which species of tree it is actually. A pine tree would not grow back that easily if you cut it down from the trunk. Oak or maple however will just sprout new twigs again.
I believe this is the same axe as the husqvarna 26" multipurpose forest axe. The quality control may be less though and I dont' know that the husqvarna would be cheaper in Europe anyway, but I think it is here. Just got one. I'm just starting a video series to modify it and put it through the paces to make it do lots of different stuff. Seems like it has potential. I'm into the multipurpose axe concept. The husqvarna is longer than the gransfors, though that may not be true by the time I reseat the head down far enough.
First video is uploading right now, but it's just mostly me testing the axe out of the box. I have some stuff I already don't like and will be experimenting a bit with the profile. We'll see how it turns out. I'm sure I can improve it though, at least to my way of thinking. Cheers.

Your chopping technique is interesting haha although you're pretty buff so it may not matter to you But just a tip when u swing at a tree start with one hand at the bottom and one torwards the top and as u swing the axe slide the hand towards the top all the way down to meet the bottom one. Watch some lumberjack competitions
No problem for you young guys with all that muscle to chop apart those large logs at the start of your demonstration of the video. Even with that fine axe I don't think I could chop like that. :) This is the best channel that I have found this month and we are just over half way through.
Say Heah Dutch, Cheers. A while ago, I bought a 17" Hultafors Bruks Agdor Hatchet, It's a older range and was replaced with a newer range, like yours, I bought it at a closeout at a great price. The newer Hultafors Bruks have the Swedish Style with the ears to reinforce strength. Mine is more of a European Style without ears, But I really like it too. I also bought a 26" Husqvarna All Purpose Forest Axe that's actually made by Hultafors Bruks, My Agdor came out spot on, The Bevel and the wood grain was every bit as good as my G. B. But not as sharp, But it didn't take much to have it as sharp. The Swedish Steel was struck multiple times and is an outstanding Hatchet. So I figured why not get the Husqvarna, So I did, But I had to return it, At first glance, I said what a beauty, But on closer inspection, I noticed alot of glue around the eye, That didn't bother me, But looking closer, I noticed the eye was defective, This is one tool I don't take for granted, It had a piece of metal attached in tge eye where they had to specially form the axe handle too, It was a good cover up, But I still felt not sure and for an Axe, I didn't trust it, I bought it on sale at Bailey's at a sale price. I had to return it so I contacted Robert and he was very nice about it and even gave me a voucher to send it back. I exchanged it with a Ochsenkopf Axe similar in size, It's just a little bit larger, But I got the 620 H-1257 that has the Rowland Plus which is a steel plate over the eye and screwed into the handle, It has the European Style head and is made in Germany, It also has a steel sleeve to protect the handle on over strikes. I'm very familiar with Iltis Oxhead which is who makes the Ochsenkopf Axe. Years ago I had a Iltis Oxhead hanged on a 19 "White Hickory Handle and made it a House Axe. I started Baldric Carrying it and it's a great camp Axe, especially when we process alot of firewood by Axe Tapping Technique. That being said, I also just ordered my 24" Council Wood Craft Pack Axe with the heavy duty sheath and sling and this Axe became my Fav. this time of the year and Winter Weather Bush Craft trips, It's Aces, I like long hikes and scouting out new area's. It's ideal for that. I also have a G. B. Small Forest Axe which I really like too, But as you know, Their more expensive. But that House Axe is the older Iltis and painted black instead of the new yellow their using now. It has to be atleast a 2 3/4 lbs. head with a 5" thin face face. But the weight just makes short work and goes through knots like a hot knife through butter, I keep it very sharp. But as far as an all purpose axe especially when processing alot of wood and just bush crating, the Council is Aces. In warmer weather, I like to on person carry something like my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet or my WarBeast which for its weight is an excellent chopper, I also have the three Estwings even the Double Bit Hatchet which I enjoy using and I can beat on those. You were really young back then. It is interesting how your techniques have changed and how they stayed the same. You obviously had to learn how to properly fell a tree. But, being a knife man and a knife channel that is not surprising. You guys make interesting videos. I have not seen a Non-Mickey video previously. Great video.
Try Fiskars (real fiskars, not knockoff ones) axes, with composite shaft :) Where i live, everyone has them, they last trough rain and bad weather, and still do the job, and you don't have to worry about breaking the handle, by missing the wood. They are not too expensive either :)

It is easy for people to really discount the Axe today... but it is such a fantastic tool. Saws are so excellent with modern machining and materials. Really where they have gained the most is in affordability. By being affordable enough to replace the blade often, you are always at the peak of your cutting ability. In days past they were expensive and hard to sharpen. The blade is extremely disposable, and the saw itself is mostly disposable as well. Modern super steels are so much more capable than ever imaginable. Even older steels with modern heat treating processes have become stellar. Steels used for knives during the American frontier times would be flat dull by the time you batoned two logs. Comparing that to a 3V Bark river with a cryo heat treat is just an out of this world difference. It wouldn't even be in consideration as a primary tool. Axes are just such a good design that still holds it's own despite all the advances in manufacturing. Yes they are improving steels and heat treat quality, but the gains are minimal because the base design is just so freaking good. You can rehandle an axehead that your grandfather used as a kid, and if it was designed well, it will still hold up admirably. If you handed that same axe on to your grandchild, you could be confident in handing them a real, working tool, and not some ancient family relic. The axe is so effective, so affordable, and so easy to maintain. It's easy to see why it is such a classic.
+Dan Hauswald i agree completely! I find myself using it less but i still admire it. It's the only tool that hangs in my bedroom instead of the shed so i can gaze at it haha. A friend made me a custom leather sheath for the axe head. I love how rustic and axe can look.
Very impressed with the size of your carrot! Enjoyed this video. I have a Husqvarna hatchet that seems pretty nice. I'm not much of a hatchet or ax guy, but I still sometimes get tempted to upgrade to one of the premium Swedish brands (Gränsfors Bruk, Hultafors, Wetterlings).
Great video! Timely too. I was just coming to the conclusion that the small axe was the premier Bushcraft tool and here you are demonstrating the concept. I especially like your comments about head weight and handle length. I would also appreciate it if you considered providing the price in other currencies.
the euro and dollar aren't too far apart right now I think it would be 80 dollars but ofcourse I don't know if you can get this axe for that price outside of europe. UK is also a bit more expensive most of the time. Thanks a lot Alan!
I have a Huskvarna axe made by Hults Bruks that is the same or very similar. Love it. If you can't afford a Gransfors small forrest axe, get this axe! I have a Gransfors wildlife hatchet and the quality is very similar.
If I could have one cutting tool it would be this size of an axe. Old woodsmen knew they could do everything with them, though some things a little slower, but I would take an axe any day over having to baton my night's worth of firewood.

I have the Hultafors "Classic" The handle is a bit shorter. Everything you said is true about these axes. I worked mine a bit more than factory sharpness and you can shave with it. A quick tip. You can use an old bee's wax candle to rub down the handle with. It waterproofs and provides grip. It does change the color of the handle to a nice honey color.. ")

a tip: when you chop logs with axe, your upper hand stay near to the blade, than when you swing down move the hand down... u gain speed and power without enery. anyway guys i love your videos
We have been thinking a lot lately. We are trying to find a way to get back to this a little more while keeping what a lot of other people like. Winter should bring less skits in my expectation as we have a lot less time to make these videos with less daylight.
Dutch Bushcraft Knives don't get me wrong, the content is still amazing. Its just that this video makes me want a hultafors and the skits just make me laugh and only show a bit of this in the conclusion. In the end I'm subscribed for you guys and will watch whatever you make and continue to support you.
That food prep was amazing! Did great on the veggies. I think it could use a stropping before it gets on the meat though, especially since the cutting surface is short as compared to a knife which you can drag and slice with even if it's not razor sharp.

One thing I would like to see is a close-up of the hang - under and above the eye, to see if there any gaps, cracks, or glue. I also would like some clarification on the manufacture. I think Hults Bruks is owned by Hultafors, but they have separate lines of axes.
hey, They are pretty unclear about where they come from. On paper they make it sound like they are older than Gransfors and wetterlings but maybe in the end they are all the same? I can't tell you sadly. I'd have to check the eye as soon as I'm at my place in the forest again. I don't remember seeing any gaps before the tests. cheers!
I'm from newfoundland and id love to have this axe its so handy to have in the woods areas we have a lot of wet wood and it would slice threw nicely you should test it on some hardwood instead of dry wood it would really put it to the test
they used to put iron bands on the haft near the top for the same purpose, id imagine it would work even better if iron bands were on top of leather for padding, idk if that would effect weight too much though

Very impressed with the size of your carrot! Enjoyed this video. I have a Husqvarna hatchet that seems pretty nice. I'm not much of a hatchet or ax guy, but I still sometimes get tempted to upgrade to one of the premium Swedish brands (Gränsfors Bruk, Hultafors, Wetterlings).

Great video! Timely too. I was just coming to the conclusion that the small axe was the premier Bushcraft tool and here you are demonstrating the concept. I especially like your comments about head weight and handle length. I would also appreciate it if you considered providing the price in other currencies.
the euro and dollar aren't too far apart right now I think it would be 80 dollars but ofcourse I don't know if you can get this axe for that price outside of europe. UK is also a bit more expensive most of the time.

I have a Huskvarna axe made by Hults Bruks that is the same or very similar. Love it. If you can't afford a Gransfors small forrest axe, get this axe! I have a Gransfors wildlife hatchet and the quality is very similar.
If I could have one cutting tool it would be this size of an axe. Old woodsmen knew they could do everything with them, though some things a little slower, but I would take an axe any day over having to baton my night's worth of firewood.

Hultsbruk sell off slightly less finished versions of the same axe for 1/2 the price under the Husqvarna label. they're great.

I have the Hultafors "Classic" The handle is a bit shorter. Everything you said is true about these axes. I worked mine a bit more than factory sharpness and you can shave with it.
A quick tip.
You can use an old bee's wax candle to rub down the handle with. It waterproofs and provides grip. It does change the color of the handle to a nice honey color.. ")

when you chop logs with axe, your upper hand stay near to the blade, than when you swing down move the hand down... u gain speed and power without enery. anyway guys i love your videos
Sometimes I miss this style of video. The skits are cool but I like seeing the tools in action.
We have been thinking a lot lately. We are trying to find a way to get back to this a little more while keeping what a lot of other people like. Winter should bring less skits in my expectation as we have a lot less time to make these videos with less daylight.
Dutch Bushcraft Knives don't get me wrong, the content is still amazing. Its just that this video makes me want a hultafors and the skits just make me laugh and only show a bit of this in the conclusion. In the end I'm subscribed for you guys and will watch whatever you make and continue to support you.

That food prep was amazing! Did great on the veggies. I think it could use a stropping before it gets on the meat though, especially since the cutting surface is short as compared to a knife which you can drag and slice with even if it's not razor sharp.

One thing I would like to see is a close-up of the hang - under and above the eye, to see if there any gaps, cracks, or glue. I also would like some clarification on the manufacture. I think Hults Bruks is owned by Hultafors, but they have separate lines of axes.
hey, They are pretty unclear about where they come from. On paper they make it sound like they are older than Gransfors and wetterlings but maybe in the end they are all the same? I can't tell you sadly. I'd have to check the eye as soon as I'm at my place in the forest again. I don't remember seeing any gaps before the tests.

I'm from newfoundland and id love to have this axe its so handy to have in the woods areas we have a lot of wet wood and it would slice threw nicely you should test it on some hardwood instead of dry wood it would really put it to the test

When you are cutting 4.53 onward cut with the log against the log underneath its more efficient not in the middle or it bounces.

they used to put iron bands on the haft near the top for the same purpose, id imagine it would work even better if iron bands were on top of leather for padding, idk if that would effect weight too much though
Nice axe! Hultafors make strong tools. I have a Wetterlings and Gränsfors Bruk but I'd get one of these if I needed one, no problems whatsoever.
