    I want an expansion pack, akin to Awakening. Maybe 3-4 new areas with an overarching main story that runs between them and side quests specific to individual regions. I would prefer it to take place after the main quest concludes. Hakkon felt like a pit stop in the main quest, put everything on hold while you deal with this unrelated thing then get back to coryphwhateveridontcare. New companions would make an interesting addition to new content, it would make sense that some companions would leave after the conclusion of the main story. New companions offers a chance to add some fan favorites to the party. Scout Harding? *wink*wink*nudge*nudge* However, if they start releasing weapon and armor packs as dlc I will flip every table in my house. Weapon and armor should be bundled in with story dlc as icing on the cake of content. I have one iota of faith in EA to do anything right when it comes to dlc, but life is full of surprises. I must be going now, The Old Gods are calling to me with silent voices.

    I loved this DLC. I found it to be a fitting first DLC for the game, as the first inquisition was something I felt wasn't discussed enough during the main campaign. Avvar culture was a very interesting thing to finally see. I especially liked the ambient dialogue of the Avvar asking why we dressed that way. Learning the first inquisitor was an elf (and alive) and how history has erased his identity was intriguing and made me wonder who my inquisitor would someday be remembered. The most interesting part of the DLC in my opinion was the sidequest dealing with the Avvar mage who exiled herself, and learning of the Avvars opinions on Magic. It completely changed the way I felt about Anders, Wynne, and spirit possession in general. Overall I liked the DLC, and agree with the points you made, if you don't care for lore or the world, this DLC isn't for you.

    Ashe | Lady Insanity Thank you for doing this review for this DLC for DAI. It help me with what I'm getting myself into and how I want to go about playing it. I most likely will play it so I can enjoy it for myself but that won't be until later in May when it comes out for PS3 & PS4.
    I myself do not like timed exclusives for games or DLC. It just seem to me you let haft of your fans play but making the other half wait longer for no reason. But with that said I don't fully understand timed exclusives anyway so there not much more I can put on that topic for now. Anyway thank you again for this video on Jaws of Hakkon.

    • @dalendria
      @dalendria 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Astro Cyborg True but Bioware is 100% owned by EA. And now that the founders are gone, it is being integrated more and more into EA culture. So whether we like it or not EA and Bioware are one in the same.

    • @Ladyinsanity
      @Ladyinsanity 9 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      dalendria Not really. To be honest, after meeting the devs and going to their studio, and as someone who's dealt with EA in the past for non-Bioware situations, I think of EA as a rich and situationally doting Uncle. Pays attention to Bioware when he needs to, and when a game is coming out, gets possessive and tries to control a lot of what's going on (in the development and marketing cycle). But once that game comes out, one of Bioware's cousins, say Maxis, jumps into the limelight and Uncle EA is off to helicopter over them.
      I just realized my analogy is weird. Anyway, EA and Bioware are definitely not.

    I'm sorry but: I hope Bioware gets over elves by next dragon age.
    I really enjoyed this because of the focus on the Avvar.
    If dragon age really wants to keep imitating skyrim, I want the option to choose character separate backgrounds again, not just racial- DAO did that right. I want to choose, if I'm human, whether I'm Chasind, Avvar, Fereldan, Orlesian, a Marcher, or, as a qunari, tal-vashoth or one under the qun, elves- whether I'm Dalish or a city elf. Dwarf- Surfacer, or from one of the two last thaigs.
    They keep expanding on everything, but people just...fall flat. They want to apply specific racial qualities, what with the welsh accent for dalish elves in DA2, and suddenly it's generic 'British'. While the voice acting was brilliant, why does Bioware create challenges that it can't keep up with?
    But, really, we had obsession with elves entire DAI, and the focus on the eluvians for ages.
    I'd really like to know how to fix Deep Roads, or see what's going on in Minrathous, or actually experience some peaceful qun-ing, where it doesn't seem like an outside indoctrinating organization.

    Ashe, I really agreed with everything you said in the review to the T. One thing that blatantly grabbed my eye was attention to detail with Scout Master Harding. She's barely given much in the base game but the DLC gives her more screen time so to speak. I actually just beat JoH tonight and waited to watch your review. I liked the video but I'd rather see relevant video on screen than just nonchalant random gameplay for filler. IMO timed dlc doesnt bother me at this point. I didn't get this DLC til last week due to having alot of games to get through already plus irl things.

    just finished Jaws and found it wanting (playing on nightmare) Began Jaws at 24th level and was a human rogue archer assassin and finished the DLC at 27th level. The battles through out the module were all very difficult and the last boss fighters were OP, to the point of having to turn down the difficulty so I could actually finish. Over all it was visually stunning but my view was soured by the difficulty of the play.

    Your comment about the companion banter surprised me. Then I realized why we had such different experiences during the DLC. I was one of those that had the party banter bug on all playthroughs. I picked my 2nd inquisitor for the DLC playthrough.
    The bug appears to be fixed, at least on PC. So I heard a lot of banter during the DLC. It was probably what I would have heard before finishing the game. So I guess I should now be glad I had the bug. lol.

    • @Ladyinsanity
      @Ladyinsanity 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      dalendria Oh no, I definitely did get banter. I just thought everything the companions said were really just...non-consequential. A lot of Cassandra's comments when you're getting rid of all the three Hakkonite camps were too simple. In my experience, there was barely any really worthwhile banter. The Cullen thing Dorian says was funny, though.

    • @Jacquiarno
      @Jacquiarno 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ashe | Lady Insanity I was unlucky and barely got much banter in both my playthroughs but in the DLC they were triggering a lot, even repeats. It was nice but since I played the DLC after end game, some of the banter clashed since it was pre-end battle conversations, especially the bet Dorian and Varric go on about, haha. Also Ashe, when does Dorian say that thing about Cullen? My Inquisitor did romance Cullen but I never got that one to trigger and I always had Dorian with me.

    miss lady insanity, i was wondering if u have any idea about the game of the year edition dragon age, it includes all dlc like hakkon trespasser and descent and evrything like deluxe upgrade spoil of the qunari and avvar. after installing and updating to the latest version and downloads. i immediately went training and stuff until i reach lvl 20 bcs that is the requirement for hakkon, as what i have read and watch on utube. but alas it wasnt still there even though im lvl 21.
    so my question is,
    do i have to finish the game so tht i could access the frostback basin or any new dlc for tht matter?
    even the rewards tht im expecting for mission if u have the dlc is not even given, it was the same reward as before.
    i bought the original cd and all. it even came with the code so tht i could install the dlc,
    but thts the another problem, when i tried the code it said tht it was correct but invalid or something. bcs i saw the additional download when i installed it the first time. i think it already activated with or without the code.
    and im sorry for the llong intro and question, i just need to present evrything so its clarified. THAT IS, IF U EVER READ THIS OR NOT. ITS BEEN A LONG TIME ALREADY. this is my second playthrough, ive finished it before but without the dlc.

  • @HyruleSwordsman94

    Personally, I don't think timed exclusives are as big a deal as DLC that is totally exclusive. Admittedly, I did play Jaws of Hakkon on my Xbone, so I do have the advantage of actually playing it, but it still seems like the lesser of two evils to have wait for a particular DLC than not to get it at all. For example, it's been confirmed that there will be major exclusive content for Batman: Arkham Knight on PS4. Since I don't have a PS4, I will never play that content, whatever it may be. And seeing how that's a game I've been looking forward to for quite awhile, it's so disappointing to know there are parts of the game I'll never experience. Do I think timed exclusives are a good thing? No, but they're better than the alternative.

    Thanks for doing a review. based on this along with other reviews all saying kinda the same thing along with not being able to play it for a month on my PS4 thanks to this timed exclusive made me lose interest in buying it. I was hoping for something that was either only playable post-game or during the game not for both. There are sometimes issues with making dlc have that subsistence I am looking for in terms of adding/advancing the story when it has to apply to both someone who for example has finished everything and someone who just got to skyhold. I find the lore interesting but I do not care about it enough to justify buying this. I will just hold out hope for the possibility of the one really meaty dlc that take place after the main story.

    I really enjoyed the Jaws of Hakkon DLC from a story/lore perspective and I loved the correlation you made with ME Leviathan (really love that DLC too from a story/lore perspective). I agreed with all your points, my only beef with these types of DLC is the price point and the exclusivity (played on PC). The DLC, even with a story that I enjoyed was not worth the $15 price point. Listing all the weapons, schematics, locations etc.. is not enough. All the regular areas in the game already have all those things so why would this be any different? I could understand if it was $15 for 2 new areas but one, albeit its fairly large area, and the enemies in general are a bit more challenging, just seems too steep, especially when you consider the banter, and inquisitor role lackluster. I'm really waiting for a heavily story driven DLC like Awakening, but if with in a 5-6 month period this is all they have released in terms of DLC, its a bit underwhelming. The exclusivity deal is just not good too. The DLC looses its traction, if it had any, to people being upset, and to other things like TH-cam or Twitch where a player can just go in and watch the damn thing, and not even consider buying it when it finally comes out on their platform, and even a new game release like the Witcher 3 coming out in May . I cant in good conscious recommend this DLC to the average joe player who might not even get the most out of the DLC, because its strongest point is the lore and history lesson feel to it, for the price its going for. I will say one thing though...that LAST boss fight (not dragon), was brutal especially on nightmare! Hella fun, frustrating, but very rewarding when you beat it.

    Great review Ashe! Personally I'm very against timed exclusive DLC, I think it's ridiculous and bad for everyone; bad for the customers who have to wait, and bad for the company because I think it will result in a substantial loss of sales. I'm a Playstation player and I won't be buying Jaws of Hakkon because of the delay. Really hoping that future DLCs are released at the same time on all platforms, because I swear, if I have to wait an extra two months for Wolf Hunt...

    I agree with you that time exclusivity dlcs are rediculous. Then again I'm not a fan of exclusivity to begin with, which is probably a result of me being a console player. I understand that these companies have to be competitive, and therefore offer games and etc. that are exclusive to their product in order to get the consumer to purchase said product. And because of that, part of me wishes I was a PC gamer, but unfortunately I've never used a PC for gaming. I'm a photographer so both my computers are Macs, which are not very video game friendly with some exceptions.
    Since I have an Xbox One I was able to get the dlc on its first release. I may be lucky in the fact that Bioware from my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) has a deal with Microsoft so that they, along with PC players, get first "dibs" on dlc - but that doesn't mean I think it's right. Especially if they plan to do a "Wolf Hunt" dlc. If they do this again, I have a feeling they will receive a lot of angry tweets, emails, and other social media posts.

    Why would anyone expect combat to change for a dlc? Especially one that it played during the main game

  • @GamingBigChief

    it was cool dlc, but frankly i was always hoping for more character/companion interaction which is tough though but a man can dream eh? also they never fixed the dead end that was harding's romance? that kinda sucks too.
    what really annoyed me though was i got that tier 4 armor, i got those new weapons from the rifts and bosses, they were awesome. but they had no unique skins they were just recoloured tier 3 weapons and armor. heck iirc, the tier 4 armor had the same stats as tier three :/
    that inquisitor armor looked amazing, but the stats were terrible T.T

    I didn't know timed dlc existed until Dai but I will get it none the less I love DA so much that I will get it but if it was another series I wouldn't as for the dlc itself it's kinda like what bio ware does for DA at least you learn so much with each one but there will be a kind of important dlc with the final boss being a major boss of the next game like the harvester and coripheous
    not to beat a dead horse but I always thought all the old gods were female being that all high dragons are oh well sorry for tha long comment

    I don't really care about timed exclusives, particularly not for DLC where players can still play the game while they wait. That being said, if I am unable to play/purchase a DLC for my game before several months after it's release, the publisher may have to re-announce it otherwise I'll probably forget.

    My inquisitor had a lot of major things not in common with Ameridan. My inquisitor was not elven my inquisitor walked in the the fade my inquisitor was singled out by some Devine power and truly believe they were chosen by the maker. My inquisitor didn't get the job because he was some orlesian emperor's side kick. There are other races other than elven that the inquisitor could be. This other viewpoints were not addressed. I think bioware needs to focus a little more on allowing players to develope their personal characters through story dialog. I loved this dlc though don t get me wrong.

      @Ladyinsanity 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      noobinator6000 Please do not call other people stupid on my channel. But Uncultured is right - time-exclusive deals are...well, deals. Microsoft pays a lot for time-exclusivity and they've done this deal before for a lot of other games, including Dragon Age. While it does dent other consoles, as well as cause a rift in the community, that's the point. Microsoft always wants to push Xbone first and raise console worth. It's an unfortunately effective strategy.

      @AmellsGrace 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ashe | Lady Insanity In the grand scheme of things I'd rather have a time exclusive deal over a lack luster game. Is it annoying? Yeah. but as far as evils go it's one of the lesser ones.

    Great dlc, though I personally don't feel like they increased the difficulty enough. The hakkon revenent fight was fun and I actually had to create a strategy around it, but that was the only fight where I actually saw the game over screen in the entire dlc. Was kinda disappointed in how the hakkon dragon was pretty much a typical dragon with typical dragon moves.
    The tier 4 items aren't really that good since, if they're better than my tier 3 items then it's only slightly. This is because the tier 4 items don't have attachments :[ But all the fade touched stuff and tier 4 mats are welcome :]
    The sidequests actually felt purposeful in this dlc instead of soulless like in the main story. I remember the mission where I had to find Harding's friend, not what I originally expected.
    The story was interesting enough and Ameridan was relatable enough. Lots of good lore elements too.
    My biggest letdown was that the party banter did seem silent a lot and you'd think learning about your predecessor and an Avvar God would give your friends in Skyhold more conversational dialogues, but it didn't. Still stuck with the single liners

    I still want to play it but it feels unfair to make certain system users wait because let's face it not everyone can deal with spoilers and after the first week everything is out everywhere I think to be fair the next dlc PS4 should get it before Xbox 1 if not released at the same time

  • @swaggerjoh888

    My BIGGEST GRIPE IS that they laziness that showed in not scaling the enemies. If they wanted to be hard is one thing but, they made it available once someone got to skyhold. I understand making thing difficult but that not why people solely buy the game people will buy DaI solely for the lore, the story but not just to play on nightmare. If i play on casual i want it to be a cakewalk at pretty much every level.
    I hate time dlc but i gave in and need a got a new pc so i bought it and had to start a new character so maybe that why my biggest gripe is that it was so uneedingly difficult

  • @silver6kraid

    Timed exclusives hurt everybody. There is no good reason for it aside from one company trying to get a leg up on the other in a very unpleasant way. Due to this timed exclusivity deal a lot of people most likely didn't get Jaws of Hakkon where they otherwise would have, especially since the Wticher 3 came out around the same time as the release date for everybody else. So not only did it hurt the consumer but it likely hurt the success of the DLC itself.

    I enjoyed Golems of Amgarrak more than this DLC, and I thought Golems of Amgarrak was the worst DLC in the series (which wasn't offensively bad, just very flat). This DLC on the other hand, is TRIPLE the price of that one. Terrible. Just, terrible.
    EDIT: I love the lore of the series, I still think previous DLC's offered much more in terms of lore and intrigue for their price. $15 is a really deplorable price to play fro what's given.

    Hmmm... timed DLC. gotta admit I personally don't care. I think companies should tread carefully as I think there are many who will care and will not get it when the time runs out and those left out can get a crack at it. I love all things Bioware so waiting while annoying didn't stop be from snatching it up when it came out. thank you ash for your review. I am sad to hear I won't get alot of awesome banter out of the DLC. I hope the other elements of the DLC make up for that lapse in a key element.

    I have a ps4 and I was pissed about not getting the Jaws dlc and hate having to wait nearly two months after to play it. I understand the reason bioware had to do it but I think it was a cheap move over stupid things. all dlc should be released at the same time on all platforms. this is the best way to keep players happy and not drive a wedge between the fanbase. as some one that bought a ps4 soully for dragon age this was a huge let down. I can only hope that future dlc is released at the same time for all.

    I'm not a big fan of the exclusivity of it. I loved the DLC though, I have an xbone so that was nice. But it seems like it could be totally spoiled for people who don't have the console or pc that gets the exclusive and that's way lame! It wouldn't discourage me from buying cuz I love me my DA but I would certainly be grumbly about it.
