I quite enjoyed playing as Nzinga myself. The four new characters are all decent. Saladin's ability is easily the most conventional and boring, but it's incredibly powerful!
Reminds me of Bricky's latest video. Devs in general should put fun over balance when it comes to gameplay. Bonus points if they manage to balance both.
@@blaubeer8039 These devs, admittedly, probably should prioritise fun. The competitive multiplayer scene literally creates their own extensive "balance patch" mods 😂
£211 - The kingdoms of Matamba and Portugal had been at war for over 25 years by the time Nzinga Ana de Sousa Mbande and the Portuguese negotiated a peace treaty. Previous peace talks faltered as Nzinga refused to pay the ransoms demanded for her sister Kabu. A term of the successful treaty was a land exchange. Nzinga was give up a part of her kingdom that lay along the Western border of Portugal, and the Portuguese would give up the Kituxela region which housed the University of Sankore.
That turn one start alone looks great, you're on a 2 food 2 pro tile with another three next to it AND BANANAS. Combine that with the relic and your tempo should be insane. Edit: didn't even see the spice tile.
A thought regarding luxuries on different continents is that it's often possible to settle a city right on the edge of one continent while keeping it in range to claim luxury tiles from an adjacent continent. Otherwise, I'd treat the issue much the same as settling otherwise useless cities in snow or desert for the strategics, and you can usually buy luxuries from the AI sooner or later, so I'm not all that concerned about it.
during my game i went for a taller build and stacked amenities - river goddess, audience chamber, and colosseum was a crazy build. pumped out wonders like nobodys business
Nzinga Mbande is truly so good. And with this start? I definitely need to try this, I've never won on Deity yet but this could be the game. Especially with that vintage AI play from Byzantium 😂
I absolutely must do a reliquary game with the Kongo, I’ve always had to do Poland for that knowing that Kongo couldn’t do religion but know there potential as the premier relic handlers are unleashed
Would suggest to get double xp for the scouts and change to +5 against barbs only when you really need it. Hitting barbs twice with a scout means you get the the hills promotion for the scouts really fast and it takes quite some time to really meet barbs ..
I'll do you slightly better. Playing as Abe. Spawned next to Cliffs of Dover. The warrior is going across flat areas and spots a goodie hut after and gets it on turn five. Beard of the Evangelist. Yep got the settler choice for the religion very very fast. And then ran into Menelik up a spit of land so he settled and had no where to go. I let him generate a settler, than attacked, took it and him and like that presto four cities chugging along with a large culture and faith reserve already lol.
I went the housing and amenity on rivers made me have 5 cities over 20 pop was really good. And on top of the 3 sugar my city got like 20 pop really quick
LEADER PASS JUST DROPPED ON XBOX! SO hype! I’ve watched so many videos on civs I was never gonna get to play! I’ve just got home from work and am gonna squeeze in my first game and of course it’s Nzinga!
she makes monopolies absolutely ridiculous because of her preference for settling on her own continent. had fun with a 115 deity reliquaries win. she's definitely my fav of the new civs.
I get that Civ VI does not really punish wide play, but I really would like a rebalance that makes tall possible. Something about this game made me think of the possibilities of a four-city start in a game like this---but wider is always better, well into the midgame.
So tall play is absolutely possible and I'd reccomend having a practice! 4 cities or even 6 cities is what you should be aiming for. Try to settle 7 tiles away to let you cities grow, focus on buildings like hanging gardens, audience chamber to get the housing and amenities for your cities - colloseum to get that benefit as well - watch your amenities essentially, all cities should get to +5 as soon as you can. It's absolutely doable and it's very strong, especially on MP. Think high pop, think lots of districts!
I'm trying the new Kongo leader using the Ursalocke challenge. With the added restriction that I can only settle my own continent.. Only 30 turns in, but good fun so far.. Playing Deity ++ (the one where the AI gets purely percentage bonuses and not extra settlers).. Its my first time trying Deity ++ and first time trying the Ursalocke challenge 😁
This might only be available in civ blitz, but I just want to point out that the best leader imo for kongo is kristina. I was able to auto-theme relics in the old god obelisks when also playing heroes mode and stack it with reliquaries and it's just amazing. seriously way more fun than this new kongo leader which is just.. idk a little bit boring?
kristina kongo with the greek acropolis, build oracle, apadana, acropolis, go voidsingers so your old god obelisks can be themed(also with heroes mode), your palace has slots for 5 great works, you can construct the queen's bibliotheque in your capital which has 6 great work slots, then plug in pingala with grants and curator and... just glorious
@@excancerpoik yeah, so is Maya, brings nothing new to the table. Besides, what does it make of mveba the original Kongo leader? His ability is so detrimental and just straight up bad compared to hers and there's no reason to even play him anymore. So did this really "add" a new leader?
Kongo Kristina is indeed absolutely cracked. But speaking of Civ Blitz wombo combos... How about Nzinga Mbande Scotland? Go tall with bonuses to all yields in all your core cities, and as long as you can also crank out amenities (the Colosseum helps a lot and your early growth will help to build it), you can stack even more bonuses on top. Ideally paired with the Hansa for even more production and Great Engineers, then I'd pick a UU just for that civ's start bias - maybe the Warak'aq for mountains with strong Campuses, maybe De Zeven Provincien for the Dutch combination of rivers (for Hansa complexes) and coast (for a Mausoleum city).
Unsurprisingly, Kongo without the worst most detrimental and weakest leader ability in the game is actually pretty good. Would never have seen that one coming. Another thing I doubt I'll ever see again as well is Mvemba a Nzinga being played.
Don't count Mvemba a Nzinga out just yet - the ability to apostle spam is SO effective as a tactic. Not as well rounded gameplay but honestly he's still pretty good overall
@@UrsaRyan I've always found it counter-intuitive to Kongo's kit. They want to build tall, hence all the extra housing and food bonuses, yet you have to build wide with Mvemba to be able to spam the apostles since you won't get enough apostles to make a difference with only a few tall cities. Coupled with the Kongo's inability to achieve religious victories, since your apostles will all be from different religions unless you waste some of your apostle charges converting your own cities to the one religion you want to have, the fact that the main draw of the ability of getting founder beliefs from other religions is bugged and doesn't work, and the fact that like every civ making use of relics their success is heavily dependent on RNG or on building mount St Michel, Mvemba's Kongo really doesn't have anything going for it that Mbandi's Kongo doesn't just do better. Having access to founder beliefs and solid faith generation allows to spam apostles just as well as Mvemba's Kongo can, on top of getting extra yields on your cities thanks to a leader ability that actually incetivizes you to build tall.
I had to look up what the 'True Cross' was and why it isn't a bigger deal if a bit of the REAL cross of Jesus was found and... yeah Constantine 'found' it right when relics were becoming a huge thing and Christianity had literally just become super popular because of him... I can tell why it isn't taken a bit more seriously.
One issue i have is that tourism doesnt do anything in early game does it? Shouldnt it technically bring in more money for your city if people are visiting?
I can never remember whether the goody huts are saved at the point of spawning the map or when you're playing the game - either way, it's a fun game with an early relic like that!
Hey Ursa, would it have not been better to send a delegation the turn you meet the civ. This way you automatically get +3 opinion. Then you would not be in the situation you are in where no one is trading open borders. You have lost out on +5 gold per turn from just that alone, plus favourable trade deals for you. Secondly, I find that you don't place districts down when it's cheaper to build, even if you don't plan to keep building them. It's worth placing them to lock the production cost. Chop out what you are currently building, place the district, then finish previous build. I feel you lost a lot of tempo you got from the early relic by not doing this.
Delegations are only worth it if you are within a certain peramiter of "they just don't like you" - often a civ will start with a -8 penalty and honestly delegations are pointless then as you'll get denounced anyway. Once you unlock open borders you can get a bigger bonus so yes, then I would start sending them more often District placement, yes, locking it in is great, IF you know what you want. Often I like to let a game evolve for a bit before commiting to districts too early. I've lost a lot of government plazas and diplomatic squares from not having enough district slots. Or say I'm waiting for IZs for instance
