I don't apply sunscreen or bug repellent with my hands. I put some on my forearms and rub my arms together to spread it without getting it on my hands, and I do the same thing with my legs. I invented the trick to avoid eating the stuff or getting it in my drink, but I guess it's a great way to catch more fish too.
I had no idea that fish have such a better sense of smell than dogs. That's amazing.

Who puts on sunscreen fishing? I bought sun safe gloves, shirts, Masks, and pants and shoes…. So much faster cleaner and safer and you look way way cooler lol

What about products like Reel Men Hydroshield protectant spray? Do these types of products help maintain a reel and does the product create a negative scent?

Ok I'm not going to use sunscreen spray anymore I only want to use the natural stuff. Oh what about the exhaust from our boat motors doesn't that scare away the fish too?
Now I'm learning from my mistakes, and hoping to catch some fish.

I like to put my newly tied dry lure , plastic in an empty gulp bag give it a little shake ready to cast. I aslo get the bag open first so you have a little sent on your fingertips and it keeps your spit or body oil off the bait too making knot easier to cinch.

I have always suspected my sunscreen was affecting my fishing success, and this just confirmed it. However, as a ginger I am in a bind….
Question - what about salt-away? I use this on my reels, some of my tools and even on trolling lures after every trip. I guess I need to rethink all of that.
Great question - we don't support using one brand over another so it is a personal preference. I did a quick search on Salt Aways site (www.saltawayproducts.com/ApplicationsPage.htm) and saw that they claim to be environmentally safe.
I'm also a red head, and HATE sunscreen. I use SPF 50 fishing shirt and neck/face gaiter. Sunscreen also kills live bait as well. I use the gloves available at a lot of gas pumps for diesel fuel, when I get gas even a few days before a fishing trip.

I use a spray to minimize that, but I would rather catch fewer fish than risk skin cancer. Its definitely much better health wise to be using it than not using it. Best is to use clothes that cover your skin, but when its hot that's not too easy to do

Is there a sun screen you recommend that will easily be washed off?
Not many brands will wash off enough to stay off your hands. Try to avoid getting it on your hands and then handling your fishing line

Is there a preferred wash or a way to wash our tackle if it is stored in a garage or storage area with other odors present. Our storage area at Island house is our only place to keep such stuff and I'm certainly not interested in replacing expensive braided line each trip. Guidance would be a great help.

I tell people getting on my boat that the spray sunscreen is not allowed on the boat. I tried cleaning the overspray off from an outing, WOW! I did not realize what it was at first. Normal soaps and cleaners don't work to remove that stuff!

Can't deny kayak fishing is very productive. But electric motors are coming along really well. I wouldn't be surprised if in twenty years gasoline marine engines are illegal for recreational use. Hopefully sooner.

Ok.. so I have sunscreen on my hands, it's now on my line, by boat seats, steering wheel, trolling motor remote, and, more importantly, on my reel and rod handle, soaking into that nice, porous cork. Help! my boat is a crime scene!! How do I get it off my gear so I don't continue to contaminate by baits with it trip after trip? Will a spray with soapy water and a rinse do the job, or does it need something more?

Dad loved his fishing and he'd always tell me to rub my hands rigorously in the the sand/mud of the area I was fishing. To be honest I thought he was being superstitious...maybe there was more in it...

I always tell people I don't believe in sun screen. Ever since my cousins, 2 used that No-Ad sunscreen one didn't. The two with sunscreen on but burnt to a crisp, normal sunburn for the one that didnt.

Not just oil, gas or sunscreen. Don’t forget the bug spray! Even if you spray. It gets on your hands & especially your finger! I learned this when trout & salmon fishing in clean mountain lakes & streams. I smoked at the time. My buddy didn’t. He out fished me every time! Even standing next to each other! I began just covering up arms & face and I use plastic/latex gloves when eating or if using zinc sunscreen.

I only put sunscreen on my face. Plus it's a stick sunscreen so it doesn't get on my hands and also I use the dr juice sent remover.

Berkley scientists say oil based scents are useless because it stays in a oil ball and doesn’t disperse like the water based scents. I’m a freshwater fisherman and I know saltwater guys chum with menhaden oil so does the menhaden oil really work? I wish someone would do scent testing video by brands comparing 2 brands side by side on 2 soft plastic that aren’t moving. That would be a good test on a pond full of bluegill fishing below 2 bobbers side by side. They’re willing biters on still baits.
I don't know about the oil alone but clearly the chum works like crazy and the smallest component in the chum would logically be the aromatic oils of the fish. Also the nature of oils in water would create the widest area of scent dispersal as it will stay suspended longer than solid particles. I don't know what oil based scents were tested but it's possible that vegetable based oils were used because it's cheaper than fish based oils but they can still use the phrase all natural on the label. In that case I would agree that a water based scent would be the better attractant, especially from an environmental perspective.
@@pakde8002 Berkley is talking about scents like Bang that use real Shad oils. They say that bass can’t pick up on any oil because it’s scientifically impossible. Oil does stay in a tiny droplet like state until it hits the surface. I need to do my own testing. You’d think with the millions of fishing videos someone (not sponsored) would make those vids. I’d sure watch them. The hottest new scent out at the moment is Bait Fuel. A lot of the bass pros are using it. It was developed by a scientist and water based. I’ve heard it can swell certain brands of plastics if put in a bag over a period of time.

I'm inclined to say vinegar might be a good choice. But maybe fish don't like vinegar as much as (some) people like vinegar on fish.

Shame on you Luke for using the "bad stuff". You guys are leaders in the industry for fish and ocean conservation. Watching your videos has helped to try to be a better person - even switching all of my lures to single in-line to help the fish. I certainly used the Coppertones and Banana Boats since I was a kid. But since more research has come out on chemicals, I try not to kill the oceans.

Love the content but you guys should really think about stop calling it an “APP”. It’s not an “app”, it a website. I’m not the only one that missed the 1 video where you talk about it being a progressive application. You guys say “app” and everyone is looking on the play store and the App Store for this thing. Very misleading guys.

Microsoft now calls all it's programs apps, or at least it did on the last version I bought. App is short for computer application, which is an interchangeable word for computer program. Your Android phone is a handheld computer. The people who design apps are also called programmers. So, not misleading at all, it's just that app has become synonymous with Google play store products, but not every app can be found there, only the ones Google owns or approves for play store. There are literally thousands of apps online not available in play store that can run on an Android based device or any other compatible operating system.
@@pakde8002 It’s a little misleading, come on. The add shows a tablet a phone and a computer together and says “app”. You mentioned Microsoft and I understand but i use MacBooks and iPhone. Also people who develop “apps” are more often called app developers or software engineers. Agree to disagree.
