  • Earlier this year I checked out a set of DiMarzio Gravity Storm pickups in an Ibanez Jem 77P BFP axe (total beast of a guitar).
    Hope you enjoy the demo, please subscribe to my channel if you did! Many thanks

    Your playing is so good, I don't even mind that I'm basically watching a commercial haha

    This is a killer axe: it got the tone, the looks, the versatility. I also own a 1989 Floral jem, JS1000, BC Rich Mockingbird with SD Alnico pro II and a Les Paul with 57 custom pu. All have something special but this Jem Blue Floral Pattern is just from another planet. 🔥🎸🔥❤🤘

    Just listening to this again Lee. No-one I have heard nails Vai emotionally like you do, yet you have your own distinct artistry going on. Can't wait to hear the new album. Many thanks.

      How was the guitar to be reviewed.? After few years.?

    • @stefanfilipov7254
      @stefanfilipov7254 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@newtonhuidrom541 Got one second hand, played it for about year an a half and the guy before me played it a lot. My only concern is the Frets. I play a lot too and the complexity of the neck itself will make it more complicated when it comes time to refret it. Other than that, no issues.

    It sounds to me this might be DiMarzio's better 'brown sound' options as well. The pups seem to accentuate that same EQ bump. Very nice demo.

    What a brilliant demo. I had some DiMarzios in a Fender Mexican Strat I bought off EBay. They sounded really nice but the guitar was a bit crap. I should have fitted a Wilkinson Trem bridge to it but it was before I discovered how good they are. I would like to put some new pickups in a Tokai 335 equivalent.....wonder what DiMarzio have? You are a top player and demonstrator Lee.

    Sound good, just not hearing much difference between them and the original set that came with my 1989 77FP. The original ones were PAF and to some sound a little thin, but if you listen to for the love of God and that tone, you'd not worry about the pickups, and focus more on the person playing the guitar because that's the only thing that makes a difference

    • @David-sx7on
      @David-sx7on 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I own both floral jems and I have to admit I love my original '89 77fp, but the gravity storm pu are just a little better imho just a little bit more output. I find them more versatile and get more twangy hendrix sound with the coil split as well.

    • @theittyreport
      @theittyreport 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I spent a ton on some Bare nuckle pups for another guitar just for kicks and I will say that bare nuckle has an edge on technique when building pups. They charge what the are worth and the quality control is unparalleled compared to mass produced pups. Not to say SD, DiMarzio and many others are bad, but when you look at a private guitar producer such as Surh, they don't discount anything for good reason. Same with bogner amps, everyone pays the same even Steve Vai. I like it because it's less likely to get corrupt and you can bet on no matter what you choose, you're getting something incredible for the money. The down side is that truly yourself have to purchase all of them for you to know what works for both you and the instrument. All players know that some pups suck in one guitar and rule in another. This is where it gets expensive... Cheers!

    Is there really that big a difference between this Blue Jem, and the White higher priced Jem... in your opinion? I know they're made in different factories and such, but do you notice the double in price difference? Really... Anyone?

    • @kiyuemadkick
      @kiyuemadkick 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      tonlarj37 The white jem is made in Japan and has evolution pickups which are hotter than the gravity storms. Musically they hold the same versatility. The white jem will hold its value you may find yourself enjoying the blue Jem as gravity storms are so much fun to play. You can get the same tones from both guitars with EQ regardless they are built alike. You will not regret MIJ or indo Premiums.

    • @ZenTheMusician
      @ZenTheMusician 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have owned both and I can tell you, the feel is the same. Kiyu is correct. The Evolutions are hotter but I'm not sure that's a plus. The Gravity Storms are so versatile. I know gear snobs claim some big difference but honestly for my money I prefer the 77P BFP.

    Simple problem with all guitar reviewers and promoters, pedals pedals pedals….for true review use 3amps straight plugged in. A clean amp like fender or vox, hard rock amp like Marshall with no high gain, then a high gain amp like mesa. Play same chords, scales whatever on all three amp types….there’s the review and decision whether to buy.

    • @michaelenochs5024
      @michaelenochs5024 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hemolia Liz Man I am not sure. I cannot really give an honest opinion because for one, I think I may have wired mine wrong, or I may just need new hardware for everything because the gravity storm set is in my cheap ibanez rg series guitar. Good guitar but not great. What I can say is that I wished I would have gotten the pickups from the Steve Vai Jem guitar. His white Jem with gold hardware was the best sounding guitar I've played. Every nuance of finger touching produced some sort of noise. Sensitive is the word.
