When I was 13 years old, I used to listen to this instrumental all the time on Phife Dawg's "Bend Ova / Thought U Wuz Nice" through Spotify. I had no idea who produced it; wasn't even aware of J Dilla's existence. Didn't even bother to figure out who produced it, all I knew was that I liked it a lot. Thank you Dilla! R.I.P

It's Dope AF To See People Still Coming Back And Commenting On Dilla Beats. This Was The First Dilla Beat I Ever Heard. Changed My Life Forever After That.
No matter what year. Even when I'm 86 and im on my 20s I'll still have some tracks by dilla on stand by for a breath of fresh air new to me old to you type of thing. Dilla is the goat...Just climbing on top of shit.
There's so many amazing dilla beats that pop up randomly in my head but I can never remember the titles, took me 20 minutes to remember this one but I'm here 🔥
i remember listening to this all the time after I broke up with an ex girl of mine, the title and the beat always made me think of how i felt before i had to leave her, when she started treating me with 1/4 as much care as she used to
This is such a quiet, reflecting piece right here. Takes you into a New York apartment with the hustle and bustle outside but the nirvana of the beats on the inside.
I thought u were nice but you were really mean The things that you said really cut me deep It always keeps me awake I find it really hard to sleep All I really need is heartbeat and my own two feet
eh, lo-fi’s a bit of a misnomer. What elements reside in both Dilla’s music and this new lo-fi genre that cant be found in other late 90s hip hop? I mean it’s true both are low fidelity...but that’s just inevitable from how Dilla’s old stuff was recorded. I’d say Dilla was influential in the world of instrumental hip hop as he took elements from his predecessors like Pete Rock and he built on their style. Lo fi does exist now as artificially low fidelity instrumental jazz hip hop, but I wouldn’t say Jay Dee was the father of the genre like that. He just made a style of hip hop that’s popular at the moment.
Kaizer.Beatz Jay Dee paved the way for the evolution of Hip Hop’s sound. simply bc he was one of the few cats from the 90s that said fuck quantize. Jay Dee created alternative hip hop (imo), and yes, that is a thing. Knxwledge, Samiyam, Flying Lotus, Dibia$e.. all influenced by Dilla.

Flames arrive, but my name's deprived of any fame, so they couldn't claim any of my pain inside, when it rains, it pours, but when I share a flow, it remains in store, to contain what I maintain, as a way to pour - my soul out, so everybody can be whole now, but that'll never happen 'cause most will try to hold out
I dont hold back or out infact I sprout speak soft hit loud stand proud rooted like a sequoia do this not because I know ya .but wasn't the man above our father I'm in space like Skywalker
