I swear, back in the 70's I used to buy this stuff for $30-40 a bottle. I stopped when the yuppies drove the price up to about $60, and stuck with 12yo for a long time.
Talking about angel's share, I wonder how much Jack Daniels loses. If you take the tour, they end it in a barrel house, so you can take it in for about 10 minutes. (If you've never been in one of those huge barrel houses, the aroma is heavenly, lol...) They used to have a barrel house at Jim Beam, but you couldn't go inside it. You could stick you head in the open door and inhale, but it's not the same as being inside one...

I got a peated burbon from the S&S distillery. Found it at The Venetian casino. the description is "Centuries of enthusiasts can't be wrong. This beauty spend two years in a new oak barrel and was finished in a Glengassaugh peated barrell from Scotland. Simply amazing and not to be passed by."

When Daniel initially said "I'm really starting to love sherry cask whiskey" I almost forgot who I was watching and had to double check. Also, Rex seems to have reached a level where nothing is impressing him anymore, like a "more and more" syndrome. Something needs to blow his socks off or needs to be so heinous, it resets his internal whiskey-clock

The whisky i would recommend is Kavalan Solist with the white label what a whisky!! I were at a beer and whisky fair, i had a good time drank and had enjoying the moment, the last whisky i tested was the Kavalan Solist and at that point your tasting i kind of fucked by all the alcohol. But it didn't matter it was so rich in flavor and yet so smooth, this is the by far the best whisky i have tested!
Later on my brother got the solist so i grabbed my glendronach parlamentet and compared them side to side and their was no competiton at all the solist outpreformed it in every category

How about a video on comparing different finishing casks with tasting notes? For example, [blank] whisk(e)y is a great example of [blank] finish, etc. I've enjoyed pours of sherry-finished whisky like Naked Grouse and Aberlour without knowing until afterward. However, as someone who is less versed in wines, I'm reluctant to buy a bottle that is finished with something I've never heard of. An intro into different finishes would really help. Thanks for taking the time to spread whisk(e)y knowledge and totally not use it as an excuse to drink whiskey all day. Cheers!

Sir, Which American whisky to start with collection. Top 10. Price range $40-$300
Macallan 18 is different to Glendronach 18, 21 and aberlour.
Macallan 18 sherry taste little like Glendronach but not as sweet as it with less sherry only smell, a little smoky like Blue label but more sharp. Macallan 18 taste changes with each sip. It has all peat, smoke, sherry, citrus, cherry and tobacco. I don't know if it's only me or everyone noticed the same.
Macallan is an all weather whiskey same as Blue Label and can be used as mixer cocktail like Blue Label (All taste buds 95% would like it)
Ardbeg, Lagavulin is better when it's snowing but difficult to have in summer.
Glenfiddich 12 vs 15 vs 18 are totally different from citrusy to oaky.
The sweetest is Glenfiddich 18 Olorosso cash.

Unfortantely I am very new to whiskey and I quite like some of the cheaper Glenfiddich's, Laphroaig's for single malts and sometimes Monkey Shoulder, above Black black label Johnney Walker for Mixed. Have you ever dropped a bottle of scotch (especially from that tiny table/book shelf (which always makes me nervous to watch))?

It’s a shame they can’t build a angel’s share collection machine to capture the evaporated whisky and offer it as a marketing ploy!

This is a whiskey that if you haven't drank, you cannot claim you know anything. I'm a peat fan with Talisker being my favourite but Macallan is legendary. Spanish.

Mooch story for rex. The other day, my friend and I were gonna grab some drinks to celebrate him having a baby, and knowing he's a fan of Jack, so I got a bottle of Jack single barrel select, which I know is a loss of mooch points. Gave it to him before we went into the bar, where I proceeded to try things I havent had yet. Got a pour of tullamore dew, knob creek, and Elijah Craig, and then to my surprise, he payed the tab. Then he followed it up by saying that he won't open the Jack till we can sit down and drink it together. What level of mooch does that make me?

If you like another kind of wood smell and taste, try the Manuka wood aged Thomson from New Zealand, took me half an hour to figure that one out.
Never heard of that wood before I tasted it, whisky also is a bit very old leather shoe ish.

W P it’s a young whisky and in my opinion tastes like it. The South Island peat whisky from Thomson is far better (again in my opinion!). They’re around 20 miles from my house, a rarity in West Auckland so I’m following them closely.

Orange County Distillery (NY not CA) does a peat smoked single malt. They use their own black soil and smoke on the premises. I don't think they age it long enough but they are just getting started.
