I read the book a while back, and found that really is drowning in the whole pop culture references. I found that a really good story was lost in trying to explain references that most of the readers wouldn't understand. That said, I am pretty excited about this movie simply because it looks visually stunning.

The games referenced here called Black Tiger, the side scrolling game, and another 2 joystick game called Karate Champ, I used to play after school every day, and would literally play for hours (Black Tiger usually on one quarter, and same with Karate Champ, by vs and player 2 competitors)...damn I miss them.
During the race challenge, just before Aech knocks the Batmobile over the edge, listen to the sound it makes as it screeches to a halt: it's the Batman theme!
Actually, the old newspaper saying that "oasis coin: the nest dollar?" may be a reference to that in the book you can change oasis coins into real world currency, something that is important in the book. but well it may also be a reference to cryptocurrency because it actually is one (?)

(note if you want to see all the references here...you may wanna watch it more than one time. There is so many that it's hard to keep up with it all in one go.)

I live in Columbus, Ohio, and whenever the trailers for this film played in a movie theater, people would gasp and cheer (including me). It's partially the reason I read the book, and found myself very impressed with a lot of the scenes set in my home city. So many times I was just like, "Hey, I know that place!" I'm looking forward to seeing how my city is portrayed in the future in this movie, though obviously at this point it's not the main draw. BTW, 101 Facts about: 1. Stephen King 2. Sailor Moon 3. Iron Giant is more likely to be replacing the robot from the live action Japanese Spiderman series. Hopefully IG is an add on and we get all the classic robots from the book.

Movie was insane, this was insane, there were like over 300 Easter eggs in the movie which is insane. Love it.
