I love Elsie ❤ She’s a take no nonsense kind of woman, and tough as nails. I first saw her in a video by Kara & Nate, when they were driving around the US. They also stopped in Monowi, and met this little spitfire.
She reminded me of my great grandmother she hated being in big crowds and the big city because she grew up in a small town in Australia and moved here after ww2. It didn’t matter when or why you could always go up to her house and talk to her even if it was 3 am. And she was never scared to tell you how she felt about something
My mom would be like your grand mother she is a person who avoids talking to others but on occasion she might see me or my siblings or very nice people to chat with.
People talk about how she lives alone but gets many visitors, but people seem to forget the town of Gross he saw with only 2 residents, and since it’s overshadowed by Modowi, the smallest town, it doesn’t get many visitors. So really, Gross is the true most mysterious town.
What makes you think she is lonely? She could but doesn't want to leave. Maybe she is the one who has it all together and the rest of us watching these stupid videos are morons. I vote for the latter.

One thing I have learned in life is that most have a similar amount of social energy (although there are a few that are very different on both ends of the spectrum). Some expend it in quick bursts, some let it out on a even keel and some slowly over a long period without expending it all. Loneliness is not so much about how much solitude and socialization you have, but the quality of that time. The latter social type is most likely the more lonely even though they usually spend the most time in social situations but never spend the full amount of social energy compared to the first type that spends all their social energy in a short time.
I'm from Nebraska originally and Elsie reminds me so much of my great-grandmother and my other older relatives. Pretty much all of them shared her sense of humor and were self-reliant well into their 90s. Most Nebraskans, even ones who live in larger towns, are often raised to be self-reliant, kind, and welcoming even to strangers. I remember when I was younger and my grandpa would stop and have 10-15 minute conversations with people and when he was done I would ask who that was and he would say, "I have no idea".
Bingo. But if this nosey joker showed up at my place, I would ask him one time to leave me alone. I would be respectful, but if he kept talking and bothering me, something would happen.
People don’t realize she’s all alone a few hrs away from the nearest person!!! No one to run too when there trouble, No one if something goes wrong, she’s totally self sufficient, absolutely incredible. wish you woulda asked her about if there is anything spooky abt living alone out there, or about what she does when she needs medical care. Very interesting
I’m with Elsie in crowds, I live in 🇬🇧in a medium sized northern town, if I go into the town centre it can be fairly busy, I can walk sort of straight and move for a few people, no stress at all. But in cities, particularly London 🤦🏼♀️you can’t take 2 steps without changing route, instead of a soft wavy line route it’s more of a sharp zigzag. Not my idea of fun at all and downright stressful!
You know, even though the town has only one person, it's size is only 134 acres, which gives it a significantly higher population density than many other towns
as a Canadian living in Alberta, this is not a surprise to me, we have our fair share of small towns and empty spaces as well. because of work I drove by small towns a lot, most of the folks living in places like this are usually friendly, genuine and more talkative than I expect them to be. from what I feel, most of these small town people live in there because they have been living in there for most of their lives, and they accustomed themselves into that life style.
Elsie is NOT 90 yet lol. Only 88. I’m from Nebraska I love history and small villages. I’m about 4 hours away from Monowi and I’ve known about it for 6 or 7 years now. I still haven’t made my way up there to visit with Elise and admire the decaying of the small town. Elsie is a individual that you’d might want her to live for ever lol. I mean without her their is no more Monowi. And let’s say when she dies one of her kids move there. It still won’t be the same. Although It’s still good that her child took over. I e told my friend about this and he doesn’t even live in the united states. He thought that was so bizarre especially when i mentioned her old age.

I had seen Kara and Nate's video and it was so nice, they did a great job showcasing the town and interacting with Elsie. Meanwhile, the intro to this video was so annoying to me, all the assumptions and comment of there being something sinister going on was too much for me lol I went straight to the comments😂
Well you may both have a aching back side (butt) after a 15 hour drive ... but what you gained from meeting Elsie is priceless ... Elsie is as sharp as they come mentally and in good shape physically too. I would not want to argue with Elsie ... I bet she has a gun behind that counter ... really enjoyed your video ... well done.
My dad actually grew up near Monowi and my family and I live only an hour away from Monowi. One of the menu items the Heiser Special is actually named after my grandfather
I'm Nebraskan, after watching this, I now really wanna go to monowi, it's only a few hours away so I'm gonna talk to my parents about it before watching the videos I'd say the reason most of these places have nobody is cause the majority of us are in big cities like Lincoln and Omaha
