There’s a 5th option. Many neighborhoods have local buy nothing groups. You list your item for free and people can pick it outside your door. You still have some no shows, but there’s usually lots of back ups. It’s a great option because you’re directly donating to someone in your community who wants/needs it! I’ve also listed stuff for free on Facebook marketplace. I don’t ship them. I clearly state local pick up only.

Great tips. I couldn’t be bothered with selling stuff, far too stressful.
I usually give mine to local charity shops.
I think it’s really bad when someone says they’re going to turn up at a certain time & then don’t.
You’re looking great. Your make up is lovely. x

When he sees my donation box my husband ALWAYS says "we could sell that!" to which I reply "if YOU want to sell it, go ahead, but you have to actually sell it!" He has never taken anything out to sell. LOL It is too big of a pain and I don't people if I don't have to.

Good advice on selling versus donating. Selling does require time and effort sometimes only for a small profit.

I needed this. We are redoing our kitchen & will move on to other rooms this summer. I keep thinking I want to do a yard sale (which I've never don) or sell it on fb. I think both are too much work. I'll probably just put things by the curb & put a free sign on it.

I really needed this video. I just tried to take a few nice formal dresses and some business attire to a consignment shop, but they said the brands are too outdated (happens when you leave things in the back of a closet for 20 years). I ended up taking my lovely dresses to a thrift shop because I didn't dare take them back home to try to sell online (they'd end up back in the closet). Since I'm decluttering little by little, I do not have enough at any one time for a yard sale. I've been feeling disheartened about not putting more effort into selling things, but your video helped me put things in perspective.

I have a friend that takes donations and does yard sales and posts on Facebook. That's what she does for a living. I just give what I don't want to her to help her out.

My family has been decluttering for about a year now. We have been trying various ways to get rid of our items.
My plan for the large quantity of items is to try a garage sale. Followed by attempting to sell at a resell store (wouldn't make much but its better than nothing). Followed by the flea market or online selling. If there is still leftover, then its time to donate.
The reason I am willing to go through these steps is because I am trying to rehome items instead of contributing to the landfill. Plus we have a goal to take the money we make for important family purchases.

Goodwill recycles material so you don't have to throw old clothes away. You can keep them out of the landfill!

We're not allowed to put cloth items in the trash. It ruins the machines they use at the tip. So those have to be disposed of separately.

Usually there are textile recycling programs that one should look into.

Don't forget homeless shelters for clothes, jails and prisons for books. They put them to good use and really does some good😊

I did a free garage sale once and the first 2 people there took everything. I did mine the same day as the neighborhood across the street had theirs and only had to put out a few signs. I took had to take the signs down 20 minutes after I put them up. 😂 It was worth it.

I have so many items that I don’t want to trash them or sale them for cheap. I don’t know what to do.

Sometimes goodwill won't even be taking stuff.
