Tips for Visiting the Magnolia Silos in Waco, Texas and a Local Secret!!!

  • **UPDATED: In response to the concern about my assumed, tainted opinion of Waco, Texas, I would like to apologize for hurting some viewers' feelings, I can see how you would feel like I made a sweeping statement without having the full picture.
That being said, please remember that this is a vlog style video. It's purpose is to take you along on what may be a confusing first impression to the Magnolia Silos, a global destination for design enthusiasts. Also, please note that I teach home design, this can mean that I will mention contrasting looks to make a point. This has nothing to do with the value of the person connected to the design. The focus of this video is how much I loved my visit and will be coming back each year with many more of my design students.
If your purpose is to tour and enjoy the city, I'm hearing that you will love The Suspension Bridge, Indian Spring Park, Baylor University, LOTS of beautiful ABnB's, Homestead Heritage, Castle Heights, Cameron Park Zoo, Cameron Park, Lake Waco, Fabeled Books and the Farmer's Market, in addition to my recommendations.**

As someone who lives is Waco I audibly laughed when you said, “not a fancy town…” 😂 You should have seen Waco when I got here in 2009. Downtown was 80% boarded up and now it’s thriving. But yes, we got some work to do. 😄

That customer service vibe is "Texas" hospitality. When we moved from Virginia to Texas it overwhelmed us how awesome Texas people are ❤️❤️

Thank you for sharing the footage Sarah!!! Someday I hope to get there and see the passion. I am so impressed with just the sense or feeling of being at home, the environment lends itself to. Just beautiful!

Awesome video. Joanne and Chip have covered every angle for their customers. Love the family area's, when you take children shopping, sometime there is very little thought given to them. It seems like an adorable place and you obviously had a blast. I am in England and will probably never get there except in your video's. Great video X

When I went to the Silos, someone (a visitor) started singing Amazing Grace when I was in the church on the grounds. Talk about a spiritual experience! I absolutely loved my day there. Magical. I really want to to go again sometime but I live quite far away.

Oh what a lovely place! My oldest daughter went to the Silos several years ago and had the opportunity to talk with Joanna's mum. My daughter said it was a wonderful experience and she loves the Gaines even more after that trip. They have given the residents of Waco some fabulous opportunities. Save my spot for the next trip!💝

Sounds like a wonderful place for your spirit. I actually got goose bumps when you said that's the type of design business you want. Can we all just imagine how our world would be if we were all kind and respectful? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us

I previously posted a very similar comment which for some reason is not showing up so if it shows up later I apologize for making the same remarks twice. I was born and raised in Waco Texas which is a very lovely City with some beautiful neighborhoods, gorgeous parks and extremely friendly people. The area where Magnolia is located is an older part of Waco and had become a bit rundown which is why Chip and Joanna chose that area to revitalize and to help bring back downtown Waco. There are many lovely things to see in Waco like the Baylor University Campus, the lovely Cameron Park Zoo and Cameron Park, along with Lake Waco and the many gorgeous neighborhoods and homes that surround it. I would invite anyone planning a trip to Waco to Google the city and find all the places of interest and take time to explore. I am sorry you made the comment you made about Waco homes. My mother grew up in that area in the 1930s and 1940s when folks appreciated having a roof over their heads. It is my hope that no one living in one of those homes was watching your vlog.

I lived I Seattle for 21 years and left it for Oklahoma in 2019. The prices in Texas and OK are for real. Your money goes much further and the people are so nice
