    Love 💜how all this build turned out! It’s like light 💡 at the end of tunnel when you had all them lights turned on inside them shelves. Very beautiful! Sorry that your van didn’t make it though.😟

    This layout and build is exactly what I’ve been searching for! I’ll be converting a Caddy Maxi too! How long was the bed when you pull it out and how much space left to the edge of the tailgate? I would like to build a kitchenette on the tailgate. Thx!

    • @thefrozendivide
      @thefrozendivide  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bed was approx 1.9m fully extended, took up the whole space. Caddy Maxi is long wheel base right, so you should have 30cm or so to spare I would guesstimate?

    • @decepticons_destroy
      @decepticons_destroy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The ending is one huge reason why we're putting as much money into the engine as we can. I can find awesome cheap material through FB marketplace. Not many understand once you have engine problems it's extremely costly!! Thank God my fiancee is a jack of all trades and knows his mechanic work.
    Love the vid and gave me some great ideas! Looking at these vids is giving me storage ideas!

    Well, that´s the all time risk, if you are on the road.
    Engine breaks, Clutch breaks (i had it), accident, vehicle got stolen, all inside got stolen, etc.
    gear box breaks (Two guys happened, and I helped them = towing home.)
    Got injured, got ill, got in hospital and car is broken. (a drunken driver has crashed in my car.)
    The challenge: To avoid it. - Or, if it happens, to fix it.
    I have many tools and spare parts with my. Also a metal tube with hooks, to get towed. Better as a rope.
    And a car club membership, plus their insurance.
    It helps at close all problems happened.
    Even In the worst case, the car club brings me home or in a hospital in my country.
    And my car back home, even if it´s crashed.
    Costs 90 pounds/year, but thats cheap, if you need it.
    Are you Irish ? - I know irish people, as very tough, but also very enjoyable.
    I was in hospital last month, and very ill the last six monthes again, with much pain.
    No job, small money.
    And I become in a personal crisis, afraid of travelling no more possible.
    But since three weeks I become better and healthier.
    So I bought a minivan, to convert it to a minicamper. (car for 360 british pounds)
    It´s a Vauxhall/Opel Combo C (made 2006) with a diesel engine, all run well, all four tyres are new.
    So I get more happy, even for my future.
    These problems looks more difficult, as a bad engine. But I fix it.
    Tomorrow I will get my car, pay it, and have no money for the rest of the month.
    (But I have enough food at home.)
    I hope, that I get no problems with it. The british royal mail use this model.
    But this is more for me, as a car only.
    It´s my "tool" for "on the road" going again, new adventures, and have a better life.
    Like you too, with another car.
    Greetings from sw-germany.

    Oh what a terrible thing to happen. I know exactly how you felt. After completely insulating my van and completion and fitting a cabinet on the passenger side, my engine gave up the ghost. My garage mech told me the same, a new engine or scrap it which is what I did. Still lookin for a replacement but not many low milage ones left since all want to build a van in these "angry bug" times we are going through.
    Hope you have already started on your next build. Stay safe and good luck. Steve in 🇨🇭.

    Excellent use of space, I would only have a problem with power, I have 1000Ah of batteries, and I use a gas generator for appliances and charge batteries. Solar panels are not worth the space you need to keep the batteries replenished.

    • @thefrozendivide
      @thefrozendivide  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ye this was only an overnight van so with having the relay whenever we drive it charges the leisure battery with more than enough power for a night at a time, no solar required.

    • @thefrozendivide
      @thefrozendivide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As we understand, the value in the bubble foil comes when creating an air gap. We completely sealed the outer walls/floor/ceiling, then standard insulation, then another layer of bubble foil before the finishing layer, giving us that air gap to increase the efficiency. In a van this small it worked well.

    A new engine is probably gonna cost close to the cost of the build.
    Rebuilding the engine is what I would do. Get a certified used engine is good and all but rebuilding with a new oil pump water pump fresh cut valve seats fresh piston rings in my mind would equate to better reliability.
    When you get a certified used engine you could still have low oil pressure
    A water pump going out
    Sure you could get a number for compression while it's out of the car.
    But since your not supplying oil while you crank you might score the cylinder or camshaft and that number isn't gonna be very accurate since the engine isn't warmed up.
    All this being said I've purchased certified used engines and had some great luck and some terrible luck.
    Most come with warranty so that's good
    But a hassle obviously when it breaks down. If you have the time and the money. Find a good machinist a good mechanic/technician. Rebuild and drive till the tyranny gives out.
    I'd always recommend that any technician you get have them ALWAYS check the clearances before putting anything together
