10 Min Yoga for Runners, Hikers| Post Workout Friendly Stretches| All Levels

  • This is a simple yoga routine that will help loosen tight muscles and relieve the post workout soreness often associated with running and hiking (or any other leg intensive athletic sport). These 8 asanas include a sequence of poses that will stretch your hamstrings, calves, and foot arches as well as your hips and glutes, releasing tension in these hardworking muscles and restoring range of motion, so that you can run/hike/move better the next time you "hit the trail". Regularly incorporating stretches like this into your workout routine, will help your body feel more balanced and healthy in the long run (no pun intended) 😉
    ✦Format: : 40 sec stretch, 10 sec rest
    ✦Equipment: Mat, blanket optional
    ✦Exercises include: hero pose, downward dog, low lunge w/ quad stretch, reclining hand to foot(toe), reclining pigeon, reclining cow face, reclining twist, legs on the wall, child's pose or corpse pose optional
    ✷Modifications: place a blanket under the knees for hero pose, pillow or blanket under hips/glutes for legs up the wall

    *Please note that the timer is just a guideline. Pause as needed if your muscles require a longer stretch, i.e. find your own rhythm, listen to your breath and adjust the sequence to suit your body.
