      Since march 26th 2024 and traded a guitar for a 2005 tsl100 and I don't even own a 4x12 to play it through yet. It sat in a guys studio for 19 years and I look at it as owning a piece of history. Planning on renting different 4x14 cabs to see what I want to pair it with. Any cab suggestions are welcome? Thanks euge for getting me to the tsl100 party.

    Thanks, Euge, for sharing those TSL videos! After watching them, I stumbled upon a practically free TSL60 2004 in absolute mint condition, complete with the manual, original box, footswitch, and more. Based solely on your videos, I decided to grab it. Honestly, I'm baffled by some of the opinions I've seen on forums over the past 25 years. This amp performs incredibly well in every setting. While I primarily produce electronic music, I do own a Triple Rec and a 5150, so I have a good sense of what a quality amp sounds like, and this one definitely impresses.

    I LOVE your channel, playing, attitude and insights! I just bought this used for $699 (comes with the foot switch!) on the guitar center website, a 2006 model, which fortunately I know because one of the photos had a clean pic of the serial number sticker. Thanks and happy 2025!

    I bought this amp too a week ago, but I have the 60W version with 1960 lead cab. I bought this amp entirely because of this video !. Thanks Euge ! I copied your settings but I use tube screamer instead sd-1🤘. This is really good all around amp. I think in this 60W version you get good distortion without everything at 11.

    I could never get mine to sound quite as bright without an eq pedal in the effects loop.
    I bought it a couple years ago and just realized it is a 1999 build so I have a tech redoing everything that would need to be done to update/upgrade. Could be months before I get it back but will be well worth the wait.

    I think the reason they are overlooked is so many owners had problems with them blowing up.
    I had the JCM 2000 DSL100 and it blew up really bad. Some problem with the curcuit board causing a short that made stuff burn out. Early TSL amps had the same issue. After a few years Marshall revised the PCB and made the new curcuit board available to amp techs for repairs. Mine was fixed by the tech cutting the faulty PCB traces and hand wiring that part of the curcuit. I do not know what year DSL or TSL has the updated and more reliable PCB. I do see plenty of early ones for sale that say the board was replaced though. Once the early ones get the new PCB they are rock solid (it's an expensive fix though, especially if it blew the tubes and output transformer like mine).
    P.S. I traded the DSL100 in as a deposit on a Marshall 1959RR. The limited edition Randy Rhoads head in white tolex. It blew a week after I picked it up. Damage was so bad they gave me a refund. :(

      The dsl and tsl 100s share the same main board and have the same conductivity problems before rev 20. I got mine for cheap because the board was bad. I replaced it and it’s been great since.

    Still love my TSL. Had to do the pcb replacement and I’ve since replaced the output transformer with a Hammond. The clean channel is incredible. Crunch channel is awesome. I hate the footswitch and wish it had midi capability but that’s about my only gripe. If you can find one cheap like I did at the pawn shop and replace the board, this amp is better sounding than a lot of others on the market currently, provided you are able to turn the master past 10 o’clock which is really loud. Below that you won’t be that thrilled with the sound, you have to run these loud or use an attenuator but that’s just how Marshall’s are.

    • @jaboozled
      @jaboozled 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Isn’t that a big issue though? I imagine people aren’t buying amps with the plan to replace the pcb, fix bias drift, fix speaker jack grounding issues, etc? I guess it makes sense if it’s a really good deal. Otherwise, I wonder if something like the JCM900 SLX is better value. Is 10 o’clock gig volume? Any idea if these have a cathode follower (to accept a Mr scary mod)?
      Edit: I wonder how these amps compare to the 2210/2205 (87 or later models).

    DSL / TSL is super underrated IMO. It (maybe?) sounds a bit like some of the good amps from the 90's blended back with a modded 800 (the - kind of - origin of those 90's amps). It's unique but familiar as well. Great amp. And yeah that clean channel is great. Also that song is great, really enjoyable

    side note to my question: for anyone who hates the 5 button foot switch; ive soldered a 5 pin din to a short cable that runs guitar jack into female 1/4 inch. Now I can at least use the marshal with any foot switch, clean & dirty (chose your crunch or lead, but cant do both). On a side note, the reverb will be stuck on, so you have to do some additional soldering inside the 5 pin din, so the the reverb stays off. This works for me, as I use 5 cable method with floor board for fx anyways.

    Awesome channel and playing Euge. I have a TSL100 and it had the old problematic PCB board. I did the Dr. Tube Bias mod and it fixed the issue. Then, I decided to order and install the Issue 20 board and will just keep the original board as a spare. Problem is, mine sounds nothing like yours. I'm talking about the gritty, gainy crunch on the chugs. The clean channel sounds amazing but the crunch and lead channels are very thin compared to what I hear from yours. I run an SD1 as well but yours has a thicker, crunchier sound w/o the SD1 than mine with the SD1. I know the tone is in the hands of the player and I wouldn't qualify to hold your guitar pick but I'm talking just simple down picking chugs. I'm just a bedroom player tone chaser but if my TSL sounded as mean as yours, my tone search would be over. Does anyone know of a reputable amp tech in the southern U.S. I can have take a look at it and see what's up? Thanks.

      Tubes and especially preamp tubes has some part in the sound. I like JJ 12AX7 / ECC83s and JJ power tubes the most with all of my amps so I’d first swap all the preamp tubes to JJs without doing anything else. I’ve found out that many times that’s enough if the amp feels a bit ”off”.

I have other top guitar amps over here and it's getting dust since several years... but thanks to you Euge and thanks to this video I guess I definitely should revisit it. It competes with the JCM 800 in a good way, not the same amp tone of course but it gets in the same nasty ballpark like those old 2203. Did you tested the JCM900 high gain dual reverb? Didn't find it in your channel... have that one also over here getting dust and just wondering if it can be revived again. Thanks so much for posting this valuable content Euge!!

I recently purchased a JCM800 but I checked the output transformers and they're separated like the input transformer is on the right side of the amp when looking at the back of the amp and the output transformer is on the far left side. The high gain riffs had me totally convinced already to buy another TSL but the clean Strat put it over the top and justified continuing my search for the right one. I had previously bought another used one about 6 months ago from ‘99 that needed too much work but I was able to get a feel for some of what you described in your videos before re-homing it. 💚Hey man. Sounds like you may be from Finland. Im Helsinki area. A couple days ago, I tried to use the Emulated Line out XLR of my TSL. It sounds like ass. Problem is, that Libe out doesnt include the power stage, nor the presence knob. So what the heck? The xlr out is missing half the amps sound. Basically it sounds like a can of bees that needs to be corrected with an impulse response. Since it says that its supposed to mimic like a cab, wouldnt it mean that its already adding an “impulse”? So if I put it into an impulse, arent I now having “2 cab IR”? It sounds phasy now into the DAW. To add to the shit mix, Im running 4 cable method. So now im introducing the effect loop, which seems to sound phasey also, even fully cranking the knob into “series mode”, if you know about the amp, its supposed to run parallell in the loop until fully on, it goes to series. But when its fully on Zero, I can still hear fx bleed quietly underneath. Whatever the case, even without the fx pedal in the loop, so just the amp, that clr out sounds like ass. I CAN use my egnater, which its clr out sounds hella smoother, how ever, the eggnater xlr out, or actually the egnater itself, is a lot more airy anyways, compared to the marshall. The marshall has a punch that I want to record. So basically, can you mess around with you xlr out on the TSL, and tell me if yours also sounds like ass? I have had a guy in town fix my bias drift red plate issue, so I am aware of the issues you have faced. But I need a work around to directly record the tsl. Yes I use the Vintage cab as well, and would rather mic the cab; but I just moved to a small place and cant crank up. If need be, youre welcome to A/B yours & mine.

    Hey Euge, quick question. What is going to happen to amp techs? I imagine most people that know their shit are old and either retired or on the verge of retirement. I don’t know many 20 year olds that are into amp repair, or electronic repairs in general, since everything is becoming computerized (modeled).

      My 2 cents is; my amp tech is “overqualified”. Meaning, his degree, or whatever can give him way more work than just amps. So, with that said, if you “over school” yourself, the modellers wont put you out of business…

      I know quite a few young electronic engineers that are really good and keeps getting better so it is, and will be, all just fine.

    Strange that SoftTube didn’t model this beast…

    Had mine since 96, it has had a rev 20 board. I get fed up with people kicking this amp. Massively versatile in my opinion

    I never had a TSL but I do have a 2000 dsl. It has had the absolute snot modded out of it, but bone stock these jcm2000 amps really rip.

    Played one of these at GC probably 10 years ago and loved it. It was like $699 and like an idiot, I didn't buy it.

      You can still find these out there for very good prices. The DSL's have gone up a little bit over the last few years, as they are deemed more desirable, but even they can still be had at great prices used!

    Amp gets dissed because the board melts. Totally understandable

    E sharp or D flat? 😕 Did you mean E flat or D sharp? I could never have the justification to spend that kind of money for an amp like these. Too many other things going on.

      Eb / D# standard and drop tuning from that which is drop-Db / C#.

    TSL or DSL? And why?

      TSL = Triple Super Lead = three channels. DSL = Dual Super Lead = two channels. That’s why.

      @@EugeValovirta230V so you prefer the TSL over the DSL because of the extra channel? Or do you think it sounds better?

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Both do the job just fine. I’ve done many tours & shows with both and can’t remember much difference except the clean channel on the TSL is one of the best there is.
