Streets of Rage 4 is a brand new entry in the classic Sega Genesis series, developed by Dotemu, Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games. They had big shoes to fill, and I think the game they made is more than worthy of its name.

A few areas went really badly in this run, namely the stage 9 elevator and the stage 12 area with the robot midboss thing. Other than that it wasn't too bad. The highlight is probably just showing my strategy for the stage 7 boss. Get her health down to right before she's about to call for reinforcements, then spend all of your resources to do as much damage as you can in a single combo. I'm sure there are more damaging combos than what I used here, but this worked well enough to get through the fight without dying, so I consider it a success.
Axel is definitely the weakest character out of the main cast, at least. He's slow and doesn't have great special attacks, and his grand upper has a lot of recovery. He does have a few good points though - his throws are good, he has a good jump kick, and he can do a lot of damage whenever you can safely land the forward+special multi hit combo. I like playing as him, but it can be a struggle.

@@Zenith07 Oddly enough when I clicked on PNK2's Video Dump's 50:37 and paused it, one of those rectangle commercial pictures that shows up on the bottom of the video sometimes showed up and it read "Where there's a walk, there's a way." Considering the part of the game that commercial is wrong. He's walking towards the salad but there's no way he can get it.

I just want to point out 59:00 , even though this older Axel may not be the crowd favorite... I noticed the younger Axels have to turn their bodies to do their sidekick. After all these years, THIS Axel finally perfected that kick with calm control and authority. IMO anyway.

I have survived the dojo without dying, it ain't ez but doable.
I rarely survive the Dojo without losing a life. But when I do, it is always due to something stupid. Like the goddamn Donovans and their super fast weapon hits.
recently im having control input issues, i sadly use a keyboard and sometimes the game wont respond to my input, leaving me open to attacks... I was wondering was there any recent update that may have caused this?
@@zaytoony On Mania it is about 2/3rds of the time I will die once in the dojo. usually it is between luck and well placed timing. I typically bring the last spear and slice until gone and then I do a lot of throwing enemies at each other and then when most are on the same side I throw the butcher knives and it kills most of them. I've had a number of times I would be one hit or so away from dying and then I use the the butcher knife and/or super to clear the way toward the pizzas (in my case).

Adam Hunter, how can I forget this guy, from cop to a Federal Agent in SIF ((Special Investigations Forces)) and Estel told him to piss off, he doesn't have a jurisdiction? Well, newsflash, Estel, he's an agent that means he has FULL jurisdiction
One more thing: my interpretation of this Axel is, he still has the fire but he doesn't have the rage anymore. Maybe his resolve is different now. Even watching his playstyle vs the other versions, there's a calmness to this Axel. To me anyway. Is it just me?
@The monster under your bed Alright, here are my observations that led me to that notion:
1. Listen to all the noise the other Axels make when attacking. Then go back to SOR4 Axel. He is considerably quieter.
2. Look at their facial expressions when attacking (and their voices again). In the neutral stance, he's always appeared level headed. I would submit that people don't isolate themselves for 10 years just because; he practiced and searched for wisdom and knowledge... And I suspect he wanted peace, too.
3. Notice the focus and control he now has in that side kick. You can tell he made a point to practice that. That was one of the first things I picked up on: the other Axels lean over somewhat uncomfortably IMO.
4. Perhaps it's me going a bit far, but compare SOR4 Axel's aura to SOR4 Adam's.
There seems to be an intensity, a "don't screw with me" vibe from Adam, even in his stride; whereas I feel that Axel seems somewhat gentler in comparison... That might be just me. SOR4 Adam's vibe: "Come get some." SOR4 Adam's vibe: "You don't impress me. But a fight's a fight."
5. While I typed 4, another idea came to mind: look at his overall style/appearance. To me, in a way, it feels like he kinda let things go. Not in a don't care fashion, he obviously was training. Like his hair and beard, maybe he said, "Meh, it's all good." And then the sweater around his waist is super chill and comfy lol.

@@MegaAmir46 Wow, that's also true about Ryu. The things he's now seen and experienced, he shows its impression visibly. Harden and humbled, even a reverence towards fighting from him.

I cant believe the mad man did it. I agree with you that Axel is definitely the weakest of the main cast. A sprint, or slightly faster base movement speed would have done him so well.
Still could, if they'd just give him a small buff in some way. I feel like in their attempt to make the 'main' character not OP, and allow everyone to shine, they shit on him a little *too* hard.
@@macdaddymario Yeah, honestly I've been playing Axel a lot more and he's better than I originally thought he was. Just took learning a few combos and learning better positioning.
His SOR3 version would do the trick.

@@Baikou There's timing but it's doable. Basically you have to wait a little before you jump, just like what iconoclast did here, and if the situation provides, you can instead use Axel's air special and let him bowl through enemies to the pit nearby lmao

I like that you set the food items to Salad and Tofu because Axel is a bit chunky these days. Could use the healthier diet.
Edit to add: I'm kind of surprised you don't use his jump special more. I find that I spam it a lot when I'm Axel just for the mobility. But here you are dominating Mania and I can barely beat stages on "Hardest", so.

I didn't know you can catch the enemy "Victoria" flaming potion at 1:05:09 in the video and Elizabeths green potion too at 1:06:25. That's unbelievable 😲 💪, let's go 😎 👍.
Here's a fun glitch I came across in there game on a recent playthrough with those potions. On the airfield, if you manage to corner the cop, and have one odd the girls behind you chucking the electric potions, if she throws it right, the cop "catches" it. It lands right about where his hand is, and spins. He stopped moving as long as I did. If I recall, he caught about 6, maybe 7 potions, then dropped them. Lost my whole life bar. I wasn't even mad, it was just too funny to see

For real for real you should try battle mode and practice on the cpu or let the 2p idle. It's not too difficult to learn some fun high damage combos. But I do stress fun, comboing in this game has a satisfying feel to it.
@@Siepher83 yeah I finally started playing on Mania and the combos come easier but you just have to read the enemies constantly. Damn near threw my Switch across the room when I was up 70+ hits and got tagged by a dude running through with the knife
@@Siepher83 Battle Mode don't have a CPU option. The closest thing to that is Boss Rush, and the constant bullying of Diva.

I see it needs an SOR3 running and rolling system for all default chars, a blocking mechanic would be a welcome addition since even some SOR3 opponent's could block while the main cast couldn't, Axel's stats need to be fixed, weapon specials added. They could have at least created more enemy designs with their own moves to make it feel new as it's supposed to be.
Your enemy positioning and control is unmatched. This is amazing.
One to go. It's now between your run with Floyd and Anthopant's run with Cherry as to who will finish SOR4's arcade run in mania with every SOR4 characters!
I still give you the edge in skills for the moment. Your runs are cleaner, which is quite impressive considering he has more play-time than you on this title and so much more experience on this franchise.

Gotta agree. I played through as him on my first playthrough and had a surprising amount of difficulty on Normal. Yet, I played through to get the achievement on Mania with Adam, and it was a cake walk. Adam clearly isn't equal in power in this game

Been loving this game so far. Your axel combos are smooth. And that boss using the streets of rage 1 special...I had to laugh the first time I saw that.

I try not to watch too far into parts of mania I haven’t played yet and damn when I saw your Zamza strategy I immediately felt like I needed my final fight badge revoked.
2nd or 3rd time I'm watching this. Sor 4 masterclass :) I like how you beat the bosses fair and square - no infinite combos or game exploits. There's a lot to enjoy here, very entertaining to watch

That only happens in Streets of Rage 3, in Streets of Rage 2 and Bare Knuckle 3 he says Grand Upper and 4 retains that. But yeah some people miss that.

Thankfully the upcoming patch will improve him a lot more, even in walk speed.
Anyone that played this game on Mania difficulty knows how insanly good this is. It took me a few hours of redos to get through the first three levels.
I want to do them with Cherry first, but I only have Stage 2 with her and ranked C on all the levels.
Gotta keep trying for that S class!
Yeah I got a few S ranks on Mania, it's mostly Bs and some As. I normally use Adam on that difficulty and sometimes Blaze.
I just found out how good the superkick of Axel can be. I still need to beat level 4 though on Mania. I finished the whole game with Blaze on normal first, she rocks!

Hey iconoclast, what do you think could make Axel better?
There's a lot of discussion on the Steam forums going awry over whether he needs a dash, run, simple speed boost, or even damage boost.
I think a slight and damage boost would be good, along with shortening his Grand Upper recovery frames since the entire attack itself is already so risky to use.
But I dunno. I guess he's that character for masochists for now, where you just really have to be methodical as you were in this video when it comes to approaching clusters of enemies.
He's meant to be played like that, yeah, but i guess some things could made to make him better, slight damage boost, longer distance and shorter recovery on grand upper, and being able to run, no reason why he can't to
@@vin4679 You know what else? If Grand Upper is gonna have ridiculous recovery frames, why not make it an OTG move and an anti-air?
It's not really fair if we have to be completely airborne to counter aerial attacks from enemies.
AND animation wise, Grand Upper just looks like it should be a ground attack, ya know for when you over stagger some enemies with the basic 1,2,3, combo and they just collapse lol
@@MorseCodeStutters I agree, well timed back attacks can anti air well but it's not optimal since when an enemy that attacks in the air appears, several others also spawn, which can be really troublesome, i agree grand upper should be an OTG attack as well, i'm sure they could sort it out
The game is getting pretty popular in such a short time since it's release so i have hopes they patch it up with some minor fixes and buffs
Stage 7 was definitely tough but I got through it. I can’t get past stage 9 locker room area before the area. Those kickboxers go ham!
I'm stuck there too you have to go nuts because being defensive will get you killed by the goros

Raven's and big Ben's are literally the worst, goro are somewhat difficult but if you can keep moving up down till you grab him it can open you up to some damage combos I think I killed all the goros with back grab XD
