Thank you so much for your responses! Very helpful-I will definitely go with the wax. I really appreciated your mentioning the sticky, even from the sun-my kitchen is ver bright & sunny! Thank you!
You’re so welcome! I love being able to help take the learning curve out for others. Wish i would have had that when i started my finishing career almost 30 years ago!
I think I heard you say that wax finish was much easier to keep clean or clean up than a polyurethane finish. What cleaning products can I use on my waxed cupboards to clean them. I am particularly worried about the set above my stove which tend to get very greasy.
Nothing is great with grease. Not wax or poly. The Jolie Varnish will fair a little better near the stove but other than that the wax is infinitely easier to apply and touch up through wear and tear in a heavily used kitchen. I recommend just soapy water. You can use stronger cleaners but it wears down any finish more quickly. Touching up the wax is easy peasy though. In a heavily used kitchen putting a fresh coat on just the areas that get the most wear and tear is ideal. If you don’t cook 2-3 meals a day in there you probably won’t need to do a touch up for 2-3 years.
Is there a difference between the Jolie wax & Annie Sloan wax? Which finish of the wax do you recommend for kitchen cupboards & which will keep a very light grey color from yellowing?
You can use either. I like the Jolie because it has no odor and is completely safe to use indoors without ventilation. I also find it is a lot more forgiving, dries quicker and doesn’t get sticky or greasy if get a lot of sunlight like the Annie Sloan does.
