The modesty and brotherhood between these guys is what makes them ( add to that JJF, Ivan and Eli) so special is their incredible modesty while having immense talent.

I think you both have had a hand in creating surfs popularity and I loved watching how the crowd reacted to Koa. Well deserved popularity, always humble and driving. Was really sorry that you couldnt be in it Nate. But its nice to see how much Positivity runs through surfing, with you two, Koa Smith and brothers etc. I think it would be cool to have Koa's Dad and Nate's Mom on to talk about creating epic surf gods.

@@jansmith3158 I have been clean for many years and I'm fine now. Yes, mental health is certainly a part of healing. I can tell you from experience though, vitamins & minerals do zip for dope sickness and I caution everyone on such remedies. They are certainly part of a healthy regimen to keep physically and mentally in shape, but are highly unlikely to get you off opioids. It required professional help in my case, and I urge anyone addicted to find a good doctor and get in the right environment. i.e. away from other addicts and dealers. Peace!

I've two titanium plates in my neck. My neck had to be decompressed before the titanium plates could be installed and herniated L3, L4, and L5 discs in my lower back that can't be surgically repaired. Do you know what it feels like when a herniated and bulging discs presses up against your spinal cord? It's like licking your fingers and sticking them into a light socket. The pain is excruciating. The bottom line is Opioids have allowed me to live a highly productive life while being pain free. For me, that's a good health outcome.
Opioids have been abused by doctors who over prescribe and write scripts for cash, and companies like Purdue Pharma who manufactured OxyContin and told doctors it was as a "safe alternative" to other opioid based medications. The FDA and DEA dropped the ball on regulating Purdue Pharma, and all three of them helped to create a problem of tragic proportions, but please understand there are people who require opioid treatment for legitimate medical reasons. The problem is not black and white where Big Pharma is the problem, it's more complicated than that.

      @user-sg8kq7ii3y ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@jasonsmith7518 Thank you for your post. I also know several people who were helped by opioids. Opioids is just like any other "tool". Used properly and judiciously by a physician who closely monitors his/her patients, and it can be very useful to people to help them get through a very rough period in their lives. Used irresponsibly, and it can become a dangerous, deadly substance. Same with things like alcohol. Many people can drink and enjoy alcohol responsibly. For other people, alcohol just destroys their lives. Every person's body is different. Opioids may wreck havoc and destroy one person's life, but it may be a God-send to another person's life.

Michael Ho (65 and still surfing in the Eddie...he is the only surfer in the Eddie that actually surfed with Eddie ~ that's incredibly powerful when you think about that and would be nice to hear his stories about surfing with Eddie and also, Clydie....I know it might be hard to get an interview with him but, pls try)
Mark Healey...YES!!..he was charging in the Eddie too. I'm surprised he was not in the top & on stage.
Luke Shepherson...would love to hear his story about being called up to the Eddie contest and how he felt the whole day.
Clyde Aikau = this man & his siblings deserve so much recognition for digging deep in thier pain (loss of their brother Eddie) and coming up with this amazing contest to recognize Eddie. There is a beautiful backstory that Clyde and his siblings should tell and have it documented for generations to watch for years to come. Clyde just retired from the Eddie in 2016 (?) and now is running this contest without a major sponsor. This is so commendable.

You guys are time capsules and have Hawai'i knowledge that can heal others.

Koa congrats on your great surfing in the Eddie!! You might think that you did not "meet your goals" but, everyone watching thought you did!! Be proud of your fantastic Eddie surfing. Nate you were missed in the Eddie but, thankfully your back will heal and that it was not worse of a break (what a blessing. YES your weight lifting helped tremendously). Cheetos stock has dropped with your eating a clean diet LOL.
The City needs to provide free school bus or city bus shuttle service with several pick up shopping centers points away from the bay to drive people to the bay. Instead of having the crowd drive to the event. It's very suprising that the Mayor/Govenor does not provide this free service to tax payers & tourist. Think about if there was a emergency other then at this Eddie event (ie a house fire or someone has a heart attack in their homes) no ambulence or fire truck could get to that emergency because the roads are stopped with traffic.
Eddie went...Dog went too 🐾🦴🌊 Hope the dog was not too traumatized.
Koa, Nate, everyone watch "Dr Fuellmich grand jury day 1' = shocking vid on net where Dr F & team expose the massive corruption in our health system. WORTH YOUR TIME.
Also, Nate look up Mark McMorris "road to recovery" yt video after he has a major snow board accident after hitting a tree. His doctors had him doing full PT recovery very quickly after getting out of the hosptial. I had several friends break leg bones in Park City UT and their doctors up there had them on a stationary bike within a week of breaking their bones because this method heals the bones quicker & better then sitting around waiting for the bones to heal. Interesting how there are new methods to heal bones. My friends did say they were in pain the first several weeks on the bike and did not enjoy the experience of pain during biking. But, did heal their bones quicker and stronger.
Great conversation!! keep these up. Aloha 🌺

    Definitely surfers mobility saved you.
I've been in an 80 g's truck crash and they said if i didn't surf I'd be a cripple it saved my back and life.
Definitely not your dead lifts as they cause breaks and pressure on the spine.
10 kg in front of you is 60 kg of pressure on lumber area.
Healing is about keeping active keeping blood flow.
I'm stoked for you it was a clean break and you'll be back out there in no time.
    🙏🤙🏄

The video you did about competing in The Eddie was THE best surf video ever. The nervousness in the beginning was palpable. I'm invited, the waves are pushing water into my yard, but dark so you couldn't see the monster. The crowd, the traffic, the cool cop -"just get around the bend and it will clear up," the butt head cop - "just park and walk, you are not special," ditching the truck and walking through the the crowd, the crowd parts give access to the beach, the scramble of the crowd to get away from the waves, the beehive of activity behind the scenes. What a rollercoaster ride!

POPO don't surf!! Yeah it's gotten crazy!!!! 2009 was awesome 2016 was BIG!!! 98' outer logs was another. The back to back 30' swells over years in the 70's-80"s before they brought all the boulders in to put at otw that do massive erosion!!!! Been to almost every Eddie, and grew up loving hanging out with him talking story over all those years, until his tragic loss. I've seen and been out there for most of the really huge swells and El nino years, and it's just amazing!!!! But, when I was 9 years old, in December 1969, I was out there with my brother and father and older guys for the biggest surf I've seen pretty much in my life, and it was insane!!! Watched one huge set completely obliterate our beach house and others and water flooding so far inland it was the biggest I have ever seen! We literally had to jump in our car and haul a## inland before allthe water flooded inland!! There's crazy stories from that swell!!! It was truly historical!!! Kaena point was so huge, it's hard to say just how big it was!!! Ask anyone who was out there. Greg Noll!!!!! Never forget that!

With those overhead shots you can see just trees and a hill on the other side of the road. Why don’t they cut some of those down and build some tall ass stands so people don’t have to watch from the road?

I watch a lot of you guys quite a bit, and sometimes I'm convinced that you really don't know how good you are! I'd much rather watch your posse busting Rocky Point on a normal day than any of the contest stuff. You're surrounded by the best waves, best surfers, best equipment, and it really shows. I have SO much respect for your gang (John, Ivan, Billy, Eli, etc.) and how they treat everything related. Hate you couldn't surf The Eddie, Nate, but you've got the right perspective and you'll be back! Really enjoying these podcasts and you guys "shooting from the hip" on things. Much respect!

The Eddie was incredible to watch!! Great job, Koa, and don't beat yourself up. How deep can we go in asking for guests?? Is asking for Gerry Lopez to come on too much?? Maybe Laird or Michael Ho?? Getting these older guys to talk about what things were like in the lineup back in the day would be fantastic. Shit... Koa, get your dad on here!!!

NATE!! DMSO is the stronger cousin to MSM crystals. I use a teaspoon of that a day along with using DMSO.
    Both are sulphur compounds.
I heard you say that you use MSM so I wanted to add that to the book I already wrote about DMSO 🤣

Great great podcast today. Love hearing you share about your spine injuries as I have a bad one myself. I'm still surfing but suffer from chronic pain. Sad ting is my orthopedist did not recommend surgery because I have multiple fucked up discs in T12 and L4-L5. Unfortunately opioids are the only thing that provides stability in my life. The addiction is not because the meds make me feel high, but because it takes my pain away so I can function and do activities with joy again.

34:47 they are known to indulge the cannabis for rest. Sleeping is crucial any day in rest is when we heal recharge. Sleeping is done to heal. Even when youre sick you sleep so the body can focus on healing and it happens while you dont even think youre basically unconcious. That is helpfull because you also lay still. Your body is your own surgeon, he wants you to lay still so he can work on you. He puts you to sleep.
ALSO VERY CRUCIAL! There are so many peopled lined up to be next football player. Surfers are rare. You guys are rare, even though we are all the same yet individuals …
Why do we compare ourselves amongst ourselves we are the standard. Scripture will tell you that.
