I'm glad I'm not the only one who had issues with the instructions. :D I have the TR80, and found the instructions severely lacking, and as you mentioned, a lot of the measurements were ambiguous or even wrong. I think you will help a lot of people with this video. Good work! :D
@@GleNRG you are so right, just got my TR-160MK4 yesterday and I wish I saw your video before I started the build. They’ve made some revisions, some for the better, some for the worst. 1) they now use ball spring T-nuts instead of the clips👍, none of my screw/washer/nut bags were labeled 😤and the manual is still lacking(now the middle “H” piece is listed as 380mm from the rear). Thank you for including the older manual for reference. Out of all the build videos I saw, yours is the most informative. This might not be possible for some but you really need two people to make building this rig less painful. One person can do it, just be prepared for some trials and tribulations.
@@kevinstevens3429 thanks mate. Yep the instructions made it a hard project, but once it is done, I haven't looked back. After 12 months I needed to tighten the DD1 brackets a little as the wheel started moving. Other than that, the frame is super solid and well worth the purchase. 👍
Sir! you are a legend, loved the video, mind you, I built my own 8020 rig 7 years ago, parts from 8020 Australia, and I quit and sold everything 2 years ago. You are making me miss everything back again! I wish I had pre organised sets to buy back then. Such a cool hobby!
Hehe thanks Paolo. Yeah I reckon I will keep this long after I am finished with it. That being said, I've been racing every day for about 15 years now. I don't think I'll be letting it die in a corner any time soon. 👍
Great video, I particularly liked the personal touches and especially the growth of your lad/rig bit😂. I’m dismantling my old wooden rig and building my new TR160 today. Your advice will really come in handy. Cheers.
Thanks mate. I still love my frame, hasn't missed a beat. After about 12 months I needed to tighten a few bolts at the wheel mount, but that only took 5 mins. Very solid product, enjoy. And Merry Xmas. 👍
I'm going from a G29 home built rig as well to a DD1 and a full blown setup. This video was a great help to me as I'm doing research at this point for a cockpit. Thank you for your time and efforts, great stuff. George-in Oklahoma.

Very interesting to watch! It obviously wasn't an easy build but well worth it in the end! So glad you are so happy with the rig and room now it's all finished.
Thanks Terry. I'm not to sure if it will ever be finished... 🤣🤣🤣 I am super stoked with the way it turned out though, already settled in and ready to shave seconds off my best times... 😉
Great video. Im going from the G29 after 6 years to simucube 2 pro, heusikenveld sprints, cube control GT, Simlab GT1. So got a big mission ahead of me, but I learned a few things today. Thanks again.
Great video mate. I was going to buy the Trak Racer for my first sim but got lucky when a guy was selling his rig that was 80% what I was after. His rig was a Simrig and already assembled so I didn't need to go through your pain.
Really nice video, thank you for all the insights and tips, you managed to make it very entertaining and to the point; I am currently researching for my 1st sim rig as I am upgrading from g25/wheelstandpro to fanatec gt dd pro and your video was extremely helpful! Thank you for all your efforts and enjoy your rig
Thanks a lot Marcus, and thanks for the feedback mate. Yep, I love my new setup. I've had it for a while now so it's just like "The Office" to me now. I haven't changed all that much since this video so I guess it all worked put 1st time. This is a top notch frame, I highly recommend it. 👍
I just wanted to say thank you. After about 12 views, your efforts have saved me a ton of frustration. Unfortunately, TR sent me two identical right side seat brackets....oof.
It's an absolute pleasure Patric, I'm glad you got something out if it. I reckon you could still use those brackets to comlete the setup. My brackets look backward, but done according to the instructions. You could maybe have one the wrong way around, I'm not sure how the levels would be of the chair though.
Great video on the build. I just built mine and had some of the same "issues" to figure out. I ended up placing the seat support profiles flat, because the seat was just sitting too high to my liking. Lots of good info in your video!! I'm trying to insert a t-nut in the middle of a profile at the moment and going through a lot of emotions. 😂😂😂
Thanks mate, hope you got some good tips out of it. I feel your pain with the T Nut in the middle sections. I think the time I filmed it was the only time I got it first go. 😉
Well done mate, love the build video! I got myself a TR80 back at the start of 2020, kicking myself I didn't spend the little extra to get the 160 it looks the goods!
Thanks for the video mate. I’m having a lot of trouble with the seat. Seems simple… How exactly did you determine the spacing between the seat rails and then the seat brackets so that the seat brackets were correctly spaced for the seat? Thanks in advance
G'day mate. Not sure if you've worked in out yet, but for my bracket there weren3 holes for each corner. I just used the rear holes and it sort of just lined up. Hope it helps mate.
hey glen, unfortunately i saw your video after i did build it up. i only watched boosted medias video. in the end, there is a lot of text in the boosted media video that didnt really help me or just explaining obvious things. your video would have helped me a lot more! i did see some problems in advance, unlike you, but i still didnt know the mm to place it properly. adjusting always leaves behind slight scratches. that video deservers to be on top1 if you search for tr160 build! highly recommended
Thanks a lot Tobias, I appreciate the nice comments mate. I watched the Boosted video before my build as well. When I was going thorough my build, I realised then how commentry can be swayed by endorsements and sponsorship. This was a fairly blunt video, without any prior engagement with TrakRacer. I made it to hopefully help others along their way. 👍
Great video.. Just picked my try 160 second hand. This will help alot when I build it to my height. One thing.. Did you ever tilt the pedal plate? The guy before me did this, so its already to go.
Enjoy mate. It's a solid unit and after 12 months have only need to tighten 2 screws in total after everyday use. I have the pedal plate level as the pedals I have required that. Your pedals may be different, so I would suggest getting them mounted before put tighten the plate completely. Enjoy mate, you'll love it. 👍
Thanks Moe. I can measure it for you when I get home from work mate. It will more than likely be slightly different to yours, all I did was measure my gap and trim to size. I will get back to you tonight with the measurements mate. 👍
No worries mate. I forgot to do it last night mate, but if you go to the chapter "A Personal Touch" towards the end I show how I made it. I basically made a squarish plate underneath to cover the area, then measured out the top section from my rig. Then cut a basic section and kept going back inside to check it fitted, then made little adjustments as I went along. I thought I had it right then when securing it, found the top lid was hitting the gear shifter, so went back out and cut another small section to make sure it cleared it. 👍

Excellent video and extremely helpful. I am ready to update my old Next Level rig and computer so these videos are extremely valuable coming from a sim racer like yourself. Just wondering if you are more than happy with the Heuskinveld pedal set? Thinking up updating my Fanatec Clubsport V3 pedal set to the Heuskinfel Ultimate+ pedal set.
Thanks Richard, hopefully this video helps you along your build journey. I came from the Fanatec V3 pedals, which were a big step up from the T3PA pedals they replaced. I am super impressed with the Ultimates. The are the original and the best, and highly recommend getting them. 👍
cool build, just about finished with my TR160... just a note... you should be using eye protection when you're using a power saw to cut the wood. Accidents do happen, plus it's a good example for your son.
Gday mate, the 2 main sections for using the clamps was to hold the uprights in place before they were secured. I was able to put the spirit level on top and make it absolute vertical, then clamp it tight before screws went in. They were also really handy for the pedal plate uprights too.
I had 2 major issues: One being the pedal plate moving around when brake was pushed hard. I hammered the clamps with a rubber hammer to get it strong enough - no chance tighten it enough by hand. The other was the seat: It was generally too high positioned and left you not enough room to make the perfect combination together with the wheelstand that was generally too low. So I flipped the profiles below the seat by 90 degrees which lowered the whole seat by 4 cm -> definitely better and also easier to get out of the seat.
That's a great idea about the profile flip, Marcel. The seat always felt a bit high when I installed it, I was thinking of flipping the bracket itself 180 degrees as it always looked backwards according to the instructions. I haven't had any issues with the pedal plate, It's been rock solid so far. I'd be concerned about hitting those clamps too hard, If you thread the screws, they'll loose their grip. If that is what has happened to you, you could replace the clamps with some M8 screws to see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for the feedback mate. 👌
Is It good for tall guys? I want to mount fanatec DD2, and other fanatec stuff on It including gearbox and handbrake. But will i be comfortable in It? Im 6.4
Ugh! The metal shards issue is a show stopper for me. Is it really as bad as you make it sound? It's been 2 years, hopefully they have cleaned that up by now.
Nice vid mate. Next do yourself a favour and get some transducers. They are a game changer. Start with a buttkicker under your seat. Then build up from there.
After spending $1440 on this setup..... Definitely not worth it. Aleast on the putting together aspect. Will update if it's really worth it when I complete the build.
