    Oh my goodness. Géraldine made a subtle reference to «Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy» at 6:20. Clever teacher. :-)

      thierryf67 En français je crois que le nom du livre c'est "Le Guide de voyageurs intergalactique" et non pas "galactique", mais je peux me tromper

    Note the dropping of "et" for 81 (quatre-vingt-un) and 91 (quatre-vingt-onze) -- just because. :/
    If you think this is weird, try Danish; they start the 20s counting system at 50 instead of at 70. Drinking beer helps a lot.

    • @cheztourigny
      @cheztourigny 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was told the reason why "ET" wasn't used when we get to Quatre-vingt is because E.T. went home in the eighties.😂😂😂

  • @esra104
    @esra104 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    i think it's not that weird when it comes to 80 and 90. actually it's a little math going on here. 4x20=80 ---> quatre (4) - vingts (20). 4x20+10=90 ---> quatre(4)-vingt(20)-dix(10). maybe it's just a funny coincidence :)

    Quelle est la différence de prononciation entre "deuxième" et "douzième" ou entre "deux ans" et "douze ans?"
    Une bonne chose à propos des chiffres français: cette année, à l'occasion de mon anniversaire, j'arriverai à une nouvelle décennie en anglais, mais en français, je peux toujours dire que j'ai soixante-quelque chose ans!

    • @thierryf67
      @thierryf67 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      soixante-dix is indeed "une nouvelle décennie"... (you add 10 to 60 !).
      Deuxième and douzième are so different ! that's 'eu' = 'e' and 'ou' absolutely not the same.

    Et un billion c'est mille millions soit un milliard.
    Ah et pour finir j'adore tes vidéos Géraldine.

    Good lesson, G! Be aware that in correct English (it's disappearing rapidly, though), 2018 is not "two thousand and eighteen." It's "two thousand eighteen." This video is helpful. For my students who are just trying to learn 1-100 at this time, this is a little much, but I think we'll stop at the 9-min mark. Merci mille fois!!

    May, I just ask because I´m puzzled for life :D. I always say "sAnk" as in cinq but I have heard some people say it more "sEnk" are both pronunciations correct? merci beaucoup pour votre aide!

    • @TiO2_
      @TiO2_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Valerie Bee In french "an" and "en" is sayed exactly the same, so, what do you mean ?

    • @bluesevern
      @bluesevern 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      no, they are not. they don´t sound the same as the vowels are different. I didn´t use the phonetical alphabet so it might be puzzling but you say "an" (un (AN) chat / en (AN) France) and "en" in l´ennemi or l´energie (, l´ENemi, l´ENerzhi)

    • @thierryf67
      @thierryf67 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And "cinq" is pronounce like "IN' (as in "vin, fin, pin, faim, pain, saint,..." ), not "AN" or "EN" (which are the same in french, like in "sans, sang, vent, lent,...").

    • @TiO2_
      @TiO2_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thierryf67 That's what I was going to write

    • @thierryf67
      @thierryf67 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      "un" is NOT "an" : "un an" (one year or a year...) is not pronounce "an an". that's definely not the same sounds.
      and in the words ennemi or energie, that's not the diphtong "en", but "è"+ "n". A word with "en", is for instance, "entendre", or what i wrote earlier : vent, lent,...

    The first few times I heard Québécois say the number 18 I was a little confused because it sounds like "dizz-vitt" instead of "deece-wheat" 😀 just a minor different with the dialect

  • @Pitmirk_
    @Pitmirk_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Please could you do a video about Avec and A la/au... i still get confused. When does au mean with? i've seen a description of a model who is 'avec de longues jambes' but also 'aux longues jambes' and there's a mess of avec de, avec des for plurals. And is le fleuve aux grands eaux the river that goes to the big waters, or the river that is made up of big waters.. Anyway... when to use au/a la instead of 'avec'? Is it confusing or am i being dumb? Prepositions argh.

    In first grade we used to say things like "was not, times googolplex!!" Then the other kid would say "were to, times googolplex plus one!!" To show how intensely we did or didn't do something.

    I think some of the numbers in the video do not use a tirer.
    21, 31, 41, 51, 61 and 71 does not have tirer. They are written with space between the words.

    bonjour! 71 is soixante-et-onze and why not it is quatre-vingt-onze when saying 91. There is not the "et" between vingt and onze.

    • @MiljanArandjelovic

      Miljan Arandjelovic Du coup, la question est : pourquoi on dit quatre-vingt-un alors que l'on dit soixante-et-un et même vingt-et-un ? Ça semble logique de dire quatre-vingt-et-un. ^^
