I think the video assumes "absolute beginner for heritage speakers". As a heritage speaker of Chinese, this is very easy to understand. Simple sentences, simple thought, about the level of a little Chinese kid. The people tend to speak at a normal pace, maybe on the slower end. There are fast and slow speakers in whatever language. These speakers do speak naturally, but on the slower end of normal speech.
This is absolutely perfect and exactly what I needed to achieve comprehension. I had to pay close attention but I was able to understand about 60 percent. I'm going to listen over and over again , look up all the words I don't know until I get 100 percent. Super motivated thank you!
It sounds like it's at a natural pace but it's way too fast for an absolute beginner. The grammar and vocabulary are not for the beginning student either.
I agree, this is nowhere near "absolute beginner" however it's still extremely useful, and you can slow is down to 0.75 speed to make it easier to follow. I also have another tab open with Yabla Pinyin/English translation to help confirm words.
If you're studying a language correctly instead of using the academic methods, you should be at this level by the end of your first month. Provided that you're persistent. Stop using the academic processes. Get out there and find Chinese people to tapk to on a daily basis.
@@TechnoMinarchist You're talking such nonesense. Yes, you learn faster when you get out there and immerse yourself, but nobody, bar hypertalented polyglot types, get to this sort of level in one month.
I didn’t know explaining quantum physics and brain surgery was part of “absolute beginner” listening skills in Chinese. Three months and I understand 20% of what going on. Damn I need to study harder
Study harder and smarter. This is your goal to get to. I'm in my second year of learning Chinese and speaking and understanding listening is my next phase. I'm studying a different way but 6 months in my next phase I'll understand spoken Chinese.
@@dumalun8388 I understand you but this is where you want to be. A year is a beginner. The method you learn Chinese you can understand this in 6 months. If you practiced with a real person everyday along with studying yourself you could be at this level. It's tough but do able.
Aim big beginners! Honestly, I think that this course is awesome in establishing all basic words I need to know. I will definitely work harder to be a better beginner and it will--- in the long run, help me to adapt to higher levels faster❤. 谢谢, 我需要学中文。 I really need to get back to studying.
The level is wrong, because they use the same exercise for other languages. So there are videos 24 minutes of German/Spanish/Arabic/Korean Listening Comprehension for Absolute Beginner. They use the same pictures and content(but language is different). It makes sense that absolute beginner in german has higer level than absolute beginner in chinese, because german is closer to english than chinese.
If this is for absolute beginners, I dread to think what the intermediate and advanced practice videos are like!! I'm an absolute beginner and I reckon that I understood about 1% of it!!
I have been learning Chinese for about 2 years and am only just about able to pick this up. Oh jheeze, I guess maybe another 50 before im ready for the advanced level.
Then you've been using a terrible method. You should be able to comprehend this level of any language within a month if you've been learning properly and persistently. You should be able to reach complete comprehension (not fluency) of up to 2 languages per year if you're doing it right. The academic processes for learning languages is awful. A person who has spent several months immersed in a country that speaks another language tends to have better comprehension than a student of said language for 2 years. Get out there and find Chinese people to talk to on a daily basis. Never go a day without having a conversation with a Chinese speaker. This is how you learn a language.
I have casually studied this language for around four years, and I finally could understand all of these...except the last one. I STILL got the one about the bed wrong.
Thank you for this enlightening exercise in listening for "absolute beginners". I have been casually listening to Mandarin Chinese videos for beginners for the past couple of years but I had "great trouble" in listening at this "normal dialogue speed". Nevertheless, it is very useful and presents a challenge to improve my listening skills to basic "native speaker" level and not slower Mandarin teacher beginner level.
I had to slow down the video, and I'm like a month into learning mandarin. This is a little beyond a beginner. Beginner level should be pleasantries and basic questions.
I could barely understand the first female speaker because she mumbled everything she said. Thankfully I stayed long enough to hear the second female speaker. She speaks so much clearer than the first!
I really really want to enroll in your 101chineseclass so I can better get assitance in learning but I don't have money and my parents will probably not buy that for me.
I remember using Japanesepod101 for Japanese and it was so much easier than this I swear. Maybe it's because Chinese is tonal or maybe its cos I cared way more about Japanese i dunno.
Exactly 2 seconds into the lesson: nothing like the Chinese language to absolutely break down any peconceived notions that you are 'good at learning foreign languages.'
There is a method where you can understand this in about 6 months to a year. If your casually studying Chinese this is impossible but the method you are using is most important.
@@mosiarmstrong you must everyday for hours learn/speak with a native speaker along with books, viedos, reading and writing the language, but most important, the back and forth with the native speakers so your ears and mind know the language your hearing. I have not gotten with a native speaker of Chinese and I'm over a year learning Chinese. But when I do, listening and understanding what I hear will be much easier.
I have been studying Chinese for about 2 months, but this is not for absolute beginners. I only understood about 25% of the dialog. They speak too fast for a beginner. The accent of the woman doesn't sound like a native person speaker so it was difficult for me to understand.
Too fast for an absolute beginner. Honestly, how could you possibly not know that the speed was totally wrong? Beginners(not to mention absolute beginners) need at least two speed levels: slow level followed by medium level. Or, even better, three levels: medium, then slow and then medium again. I won't press the dislike botton because I respect everybody's work and I know the effort put in making this kind of videos. But please think about changing the speed of the speaking part. If you do so, this video will be perfect and truly helpful.
I don't think it's fair to call this for absolute beginners. The vocabulary is too advanced for a total beginner. I have been studying for close to a month and understood the jist of what was happening in each situation but only about 40% of the actual spoken words. This is closer to intermediate because the speakers are speaking far too quickly for a beginner to pick up on.
THIS IS SUCH A WASTE OF TIME AS IT'S NOT SUITABLE FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS. THERE SHOULD BE A WEBSITE THAT LISTS THE DOZENS OF INAPPROPRIATE VIDEOS. THIS WOULD BE AMONG THEM. PLEASE REMOVE IT OR MODIFY IT. MAKE IT SLOWER. SHOW THE PINYIN. PROVIDE THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION. TO ITS CREDIT IT'S ALL IN MANDARIN WHICH IS GREAT.

how are you doing know 3 years later?
Nice to have such help - thank you - but this is DEFINITELY NOT FOR AN ABSOLUTE BEGINNER.
What is your definition of "absolute beginner?"
Someone that very basic to nothing
This quiz is probably for an A2 level student.

Can you add some pinyin? It would be difficult for me and many others when it comes to searching for words using online dictionaries.
I’m a 13 year old girl from Sweden, my mom is Chinese so I understood maybe 85% of this and then kinda puzzled it together so it was quite easy
My weakness with this is the ones involving numbers and telling time, I am really slow with those.

Listening is tough to understand another language because people in all languages speak differently.

The struggles of Abosolute Beginner stage is the fact that we don't know many words.
This is intermediate, not absolute beginner. I'm HSK 3 and I understood almost all, but entirely too fast. And a strange dialect for some words
This is way too hard for beginners
This is for 'absolute' beginner? I can't comprehend this, there are too many words that I don't recognize and I've only come across HSK1 vocabulary.
Nothing 'beginning', to say less 'absolute' about these. Do you have any idea what you are doing? Have you, guys, taught?
