    Hi Everyone and Welcome to Promethean Sewing Machines, where I am unashamedly rebelliously creative when it comes to taking old forgotten sewing machines and bringing them back to life in a beautiful way.
    Meet my new project:
    Cleaning up over a hundred years of grime from this machine and repainting the bed plate. I really wanted to play with some ideas I had for possible Decal ideas using gold and silver leaf. Trying out new things, seeing what works in theory and not so much in practicality. She is all cleaned up now, clear coated over the entire piece and ready to put back together!
    Thanks for watching!
    Marie

    It's looking gorgeous! I do hope you're wearing a face mask when you use all those solvents, as the fumes can't be good for you 😬 You must take care of yourself, so you can carry on caring for those beautiful machines (and hubby, and the animals...) 😊

      I will try, I actually took a new n95 up to my shop this morning for painting. The old cloth over the mouth thing wasn't working too well. Thank you so much for your concern 😁☺️

    I’ve got a quite similar machine. I think mine is from 1906. Is like to take it apart and clean it before I work with it to keep it on good shape. Do you think I could use your videos as a guideline and do you have any recommendations for where to maybe find a manual? Google didn’t help so far but maybe it’s just me 🙈

      Sure! Also a lot of manuals are available in the various vintage sewing machine groups on Facebook. like this one. Good luck!

    I wonder if you turned the saturation down and the contrast up a little in the image you might get a better result with the clear waterslide decal over metal leaf, although it's hard to tell without testing it with unprinted paper to see what the maximum potential shine is through the decal.
    Also, I imagine a lot of the yellow tone on the example picture comes from the yellowing of the shellac with age. Is that something you might consider adjusting for if you were redoing all of the decals on a machine?

    Very grateful to have found your channel. I have 2 questions I'm hoping you are willing to answer. After spending too much time searching for a rachet screwdriver with a right angle attachment piece like the one you use (and utterly failing to find one) I'm hoping you can direct me to find this. The second is I have been using Blue Creeper to clean my machines. My current project is a Sphinx 27 that has been locked up tight. What penetrating oil do you use? Much thanks. Andrea Bredbeck

      Ok, for the tool:
      chapmanmfg.com/products/9600-starter-slotted-bit-set?_pos=1&_sid=7c38e1506&_ss=r
      I've used several oils. My current favorite is
      amzn.to/3ZSTnoy
      Kroil, or Schaefer penetrating oil, or Lucas penetrating oil, are good too.
      Good luck!

      Thank you so so much. I found your video so helpful. I’m going to get that tool and then I’m going to start on the second video. I hope you have good holidays.

      I’m just looking at that link. The ratchet tool driver set looks excellent. The thing I was most impressed with was the handle that came out about halfway up at a right angle because it looked like it gave you a tremendous amount of control and leverage. Is there something else that needs to go with that kit for that part?

    • @prometheansewingmachines
      @prometheansewingmachines  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ABredbeck that is in the kit!

    Do you find that the hand cleaner damages the original clear coat at all and thus the decals? Or does it polish up well after gojo? I've watched some other videos and someone said not to use cleaners because it can strip the shellac.

    • @prometheansewingmachines
      @prometheansewingmachines  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have never had any trouble using the hand cleaner on original finishes. (Which I know will throw some people over the edge) After that a good wax and polish makes them super nice.

    • @artransue
      @artransue 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@prometheansewingmachinesthat is interesting because I used a non pumas hand cleaner on mine and noticed some of the decals silvering. I don't know if it's because I was applying it with a brush but even wiping it removed some gold.

      @artransue 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@prometheansewingmachinesthen again my decals were boy buried under alot of grease. Mine is pretty clean I think it was mostly the finish cracking.

    I just purchased a treadle that looks just like this one. The ad said it worked, but the needle/ bobbin mechanism is frozen.
    Do you have a suggestion?

    • @prometheansewingmachines
      @prometheansewingmachines  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, penetrating oil on the moving parts and clean the really gunky parts . Good luck!

    I bought the same model for $15 and it is in rough shape, the plates on the bottom are jammed. Do you have any ideas

    • @prometheansewingmachines
      @prometheansewingmachines  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They get stuck a lot. I would put a lot of penetrating oil on them and use something wooden to try to tap them out. Good luck
