Great journalism The Print, giving importance to Health segment. Having demographic benefit is not sufficient, people have to be healthy and fit also.

Three cheers for team The Print for this beautiful episode. You are creating awareness for alcohol consumption. Britishers introduced brandy for cold and cough but people started taking larger quantities and spoiled the whole humanity. I support for graphic warning at least children will ask their parents to stop this harmful chemical and protect your body from cancer and other elements

    Let's discuss the study itself.

What is the sample size of this study? Has anyone considered the sample of people who are healthy despite taking alcohol in moderated quantities? The risk of statistical medical studies is that they have availability bias, that is, they have access to data of sick people in larger proportions than in normal population. This study needs to be examined from all angles before allowing moral policing. Every food item has some good and bad points but overplaying the risks is fear mongering - much of the chain-of-cause deductive logic that the doctors use is equally applicable to junk food.

Hi, thanks for reaching out- sharing a study here from India which cites various studies linking the cancer cases in India with alcohol consumption.

It would be good to know what is the relative risk of a moderate drinker, say 3-4 drinks/week as compared to a teetotaler? I am surprised with he statement of both the doctors “no amount of alcohol is safe”…. That way driving is not safe and we still drive. It is important to quantify the risk. Without such info, the episode has little clarifying value and is not of much use for moderate drinkers. Of course, for heavy drinkers, there are a number of problems, which has been known for awhile.

Why is driving not safe, little absurd comparison? Considering that limited amount of alcohol is safe is just self-gratification. Unfortunately many people live with it. No amount is safe, its like a very slow poison.

What is needed is info on relative risk of light/moderate drinking over no drinking. Say developing cancer risk among teetotallers is 1%, then if the risk goes to 1.1% among light drinkers, then a person can make informed choice ie he/she is willing to take that risk and indulge in light drinking. But if the risk goes to say 5%, then the same person may not want to take that risk and stop drinking. Just saying it’s not safe is not enough information.
