Family is also like marriage. There are others around you who will see things in You that you can't, and it never feels good to have your flaws handed to you on a pretty sometimes not so pretty platter. You must put yourself aside for those in your family, and focus on building one another up and fulfilling eachothers needs instead of secluding yourself and doing your own thing. It's easy to get lost playing a game, scrolling through media, and neglecting that little sibling that wants your time, or neglecting to help mom make dinner. In sickness or in health, we must take care of our family, and we must put God first and do everything we do for them as unto the Lord. We must be married to family first, before we can be married to an outsider. It starts with those we're living with, because who we are at home, will carry over into our future relationships. This is a lesson for myself.

I didn’t know about the bible verse about better to not get married until after. The hardest thing I’ve ever gone through was marriage well trying to do it Gods way atleast takes ALOT of humbling and personal work. It’s not for the quiter that’s for sure. I usually really resonate with you, Vlad, on your sermons. This one I find troubling as I believed these kinds of ideas for 31 years of marriage. These ideas did not equip me for healthy confrontation or boundaries and I did succeed in creating an atmosphere where I was no longer able to cope emotionally in an emotionally abusive marriage and had a breakdown. In seeking help, I have learned that to protect love, I need to understand my needs and get them taken care of regardless of my spouse's ability or willingness. I needed to recognize that self-neglect is not taking care of myself the way God encourages me to. Please consider.
It seems everyone has a story of self neglect.... including myself. Maybe we all need to reconsider. I never hear anyone tabs the blame for "bad marriage"

In today's society marriage is primarily a contract with the state which is what gives the state legal right to dictate the distribution of assets if the marriage ends in divorce. The state has no way to enforce any of the covenant issues made by each party to God. I see no reason why anyone would get a marriage license and then file it with the state. A covenant marriage with God is all that is needed and you are married in the eyes of God. The only issue is you would need to file your taxes as not married. Your covenant wife can ask the court to change her last name to match the spouse if that is desired.
