Glad to hear the updated sleds run like they’re supposed to. I’m impressed you guys owned up and re did the review. I ordered mine on Wednesday March 13th and according to my dealer the all black base models are all sold out. I ended up with the snopro 154 3” and added the aluminum boards, glad I did.

For what it’s worth I think the prior two postcast 858 review videos should stay posted. The retest podcast is great and informative (and kudos to AC for making quick changes) but the opinions from the original test are still valid to your experience of the machines as they were presented. AC didn’t have to put forward their pre-production units with the early tuning and I’m sure they were aware journalists were going to develop their opinions and share them on their media channels. Thank you for the excellent reporting and transparency. I hope the production units are as good as the units you rode in the retest and that Arctic Cat has great success with their Catalyst platform and their engine offerings.

Super happy to hear this second take. Cat has never been known to have a 2 stoke motor with a low end grunt behind it so I just assumed that this new motor was more of the same ol' same ol', but we all know how much of a difference clutching can make and it's great news to hear!! Ryan you hit the nail on the head in regards to the Alpha rail. Guys don't want to spend $20K to learn how to ride something that is completely different from what they're used to. That's an expensive gamble. I would order a Catalyst in a heartbeat if they brought back the Hard Core with the twin rail. I know Cat is tired of hearing us beg for one, but I know they'd sell extremely well. Thanks for the update fellas!

Its good to hear that Artic Cat put in some effort to fix what was going on.
Hopefully they learned their lesson to only let media ride something that has been tested more thoroughly.
Now if only you guys can get them to keep parts in stock and not have rediculous warranty policies. (Fix and repair, then ask for reimbursement which may or may not be denied).
Once again, I do appreciate the honesty on how you feel when you ride. On paper these are neat machines, and its good that they're putting in the time to get the hardware to perform where it should.

Not to forget aftermarket parts will be available to reduce more of the rotating mass and make things more durable... and with their close ties with Speedwerx I wouldn't be surprised if a turbo kit becomes readily available by next model year.
What would be an amazing kit if somehow they could make a twin rail with a track and easy swap it; only need one sled but have the availability to have the Alpha or Twin rail.

I thought your initial review was odd, something didn't match compared to my experiences with the Catalyst 600 and 858 trail sleds. So, I'm really glad to hear Cat went back to the calibration and redeemed themselves. As for the podcast sponsorship, bashing a non-sponsor might seem uncomfortable for some, maybe there's a way to clarify your position on that if/when this situation comes up again. I know more than most consumers, but it was not clear if you were being impartial. Overall, good episode, and I'm glad you guys are still riding. Absolutely rediculous they released unpolished sleds to the media - especially on a new platform/engine combo that’s a brand saver. Honestly I’d fire them all. Interesting the review over two episodes goes from cautious recommendation with legitimate big issues to suddenly this thing is amazing. Seems like someone got a call from an advertiser. What about the vibration that was noted or how you reported the alpha rail causing wash out.? Plastic running boards? I can’t believe I invested my time listening to these podcasts and now a 180 and saying that it’s almost as good as a 9R. What a joke. And discounting the buddy tracking?? It’s like you went through the checklist of all the negatives in the podcast and backtracking your opinions. Wow those arctic cat engineers made amazing changes in 5 days.
I wish my sled had buddy tracking. I wish every manufacturer agreed on its use like avalanche beacon frequencies.

some people upset, haha yea the diehards that think cat is just the best. So rarely you get sleds that arent setup but you have cat throwing this sled together and giving it to you and when it sucks backstepping. Same shitty handlebars and setup, unreliable adapt primary, and a monorail that nobody wants. Cat is so far behind the ball I don't think this 858 is gonna save the brand. Back of the pack like usual. Can't wait for the diehard cat guys to eat their words when the 858 is released and cat has all kinds of issues with it.

I love ... love arctic cat ... but somethings changed with the people. And maybe to do with being bought by Timken. when I hear these guys talking about cat calling them out ? It kinda confirms my thoughts. Give the people what they want and the money will sort its self out. Cat has no reasons to call out anyone if they're giving them inferior products to test with. Get a clue and let's go cat

What do you mean AC just received them and couldn't do any adjustments before the media event? Very odd.. This is AC presenting THEIR PRODUCTS to the media for reviews. We're they made in another country and dropped off in a crate? You would think AC ambassadors would be out testing these, dialing them in to present a worthy product. Sounds more like rushing products to market b4 they are ready and tested. Here we go again 🙄.
