The cult is one of the best bands of the 80's, you don't know how important it is to have all kinds of live materials to enjoy it, this channel dignifies the band and all cult fans! you are incredible!
Cracking song from a band at the peak of their powers. It gave me goosebumps when Tommy Vance played it for the first time on BBC Radio One's Friday Rock Show. They were my favourite band of my formative teenage years so seeing them acknowledged on something as mainstream as Top of the Pops was very meaningful to me. It felt good to know that many other people of similar mind to me had bought the single to put it in the charts, full as they were of beige, manufactured pop. The Cult's pure rock style of this period had a massive influence on me, too. I was proud to be part of their hard rock tribe. And still am.
To be fair to TOTP, they had a variety of different music on the show. Motörhead were possibly the heaviest/most metal band to play the show but it wasn’t too uncommon to have rock bands on if they were in the charts.
Top of the pops from what I heard would not let anyone play live, I am hearing all backing track here so I think that may be true. Regardless this song kicks so much ass and I love how the audience gets live every time a pyro goes off. Check out the other live version from the VMAs you can hear him coming out past the backing track very well.
That was live audience reaction.. TOP did this on occasion because they insisted acts lip synch so at least the audience reaction would be live being the only thing that was live.
Hah, this legendary TV-show is so stupid it's almost funny:-). A pile of easy money there waiting to be taken; only a band full of hypocritics would say "no". The Cure had done the show. And several years later Faith No More would do "From Out Of Nowhere"... Great bands!!
Guess you had to be there. Real music? People saying that always makes me laugh as they never quantify what counts as real music. If they say Vivaldi, Beethoven or Chopin they have a point, but if they say Oasis, U2, Pink Floyd or any other such mainstream rock band then it’s not so interesting.

Except this isn’t being performed live... it was mimed
@@michaelsocash3407 The Cult could do nothing about it. No one played live during this TV show. All bands used playback in those days.
@@Gianluca_B therefore the show is ridiculous.
His voice is the voice of a 1970s rock star. Goooood
Wow Ian!!! He is so gorgeous 😍!! I love this video and of course "Fire Woman". Billy and Jamie are a dynamic duo. They are also smoking hot looking!
The 80's still Rocks in 2022!!
Hell. Yeah!!!!!
The Cult still rocks in 2022! ❤CFFC!❤🤘🤘
And two more, ,24 , 💪💯🎤🎸🎶♥️
One of my favourite tracks from Sonic Temple...love this version...love the Cult!
❤❤🎵🎶🎤🎸🥁
Duffy went from a Pompadour to typical Rocker hair. He changed the most. Astbury stayed the same with his long hair. Great band!

They had several Top Of The Pops appearances well before this one.
Tommy Vance, he was the man.

Matt Sorum on the drums, before joining with Guns N' Roses.
He looks younger today than he did 30 years ago
Guns stole heaps from the Cult lol
From Ian's bandana down
Fact check
He should have stayed in the cult.
TREMENDO BATERO ME ENCANTA
@@jeffmccaskill9227meh im happy they have Tempesta instead, hes much better
Thanks so much for this upload in HD!
Our pleasure!
Sounds just as good as the studio, the mark of a great group 🔥🤘 awesome video
Just miming to backing track. Very few TOTP performances were live.
All TOTP performances were lip syncing. They let Def Leppard play once live. Thats it.
@@erikthomas9228
They let nirvana play once live
Never again 😂
Ian is a legitimate God 🙏❤️ THIS band is sooooooooooooo awesome and so underrated!!!!!
Sounds every bit as good now as it did then!
I saw them in San Diego in 2016 with Guns N' Roses. It's one of the best concerts ever. The Cult Rocks!!
God, I love your voice!
Wow! Both Ian and Billy looked incredible and were at their hottest during this era.
At that time , they was on the top of the mountain . I really think this .
Damn this has always been my fav song❤
Love, love, love. ❤️🙏🌹
Awesome
That lead singer is delectable
Ian Astbury.
Ian hair snakeskin trousers…I’m happy 😍
Never seen this one, cuz I be American. Rocks !!

One of my favorite bands ever, but playback, cut studio verson.
Essas complicações é facil, publica o showzinho ao vivo e o que é de origem.
nice 😘💋
NICE BOOTS IAN
Class
"Rocktastic, mate!"
I have a indian girlfriend perfect body and perfect soul... I lost her
wish there was no backing track
One concert up in Hover Dam, bros!
Tommy Wiseau best performance.
Underappreciated comment right here

Is this live??! Sounds incredible!
No it's mimed
I had a nervous breakdown during the covid bullshit and my partner of 20 years says this song is all about me. Blessed
Take Care of you.
Hey- lol- me too !! No shit.....Crazy huh-
= rockssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
The cult are fucking Rock and roll
🎼🤟♥️♥️♥️🤟🎼
😎🏆🤘🏽🎵🤘🏽😎🏆
Grandi...
Tra le migliori band degli 80....meglio anche di qualche band sopravvalutata di quella decade a mio avviso...
Assolutamente d' accordo . Prima di Sonic Temple non li conoscevo . Poi , ho iniziato a seguirli con particolare attenzione . E li seguo ancora .
Awesome Matt Sorum on drums??
Who came here after reading page 100 of matt sorum book?? 😂
🔥🌀🔥🌀🔥🌀🔥
crackin band & that's coming from a Mod 🍻
KID CHAOS IN THE BASS
😛😝🤘🤟
1989-1991, The Cult at his best!
love this but then watch the stone roses at the same time and realise how far behind the cult was,
Yet early Stone Roses was like a poor mans early Cult. I love both bands, the Cult had their time between 83 and 88, the Roses 88 and 91.
That’s like comparing chalk and cheese
Cool clip to see. Could have had better fake crowd noise edits though
That was live audience reaction.. TOP did this on occasion because they insisted acts lip synch so at least the audience reaction would be live being the only thing that was live.
And the audience members would have come without having a clue who was going to be on, and would mostly be into mainstream pop.

they were cheering for the fireworks...they really liked that I guess...
Incredible song.....but this is obviously play-along.
This is not a live performance.

So sad TOTP was always lip sync. Stupid TV producers threw away such an opportunity.
Why did they have to lip sync?
Lip sync but ok
Everyone lip syncs look at Nirvana doing it you'll laugh your ass off.
Hush
This seems dubbed.
It IS dubbed. Top of the Pops never let anyone play live. It was all lip syncing.
Lip syncing. He never sings ALL the lyrics live. He cuts out words in each verse and chorus
Lip sync more?
Synced
It sucks that TOTP made everyone lip sync on the show.
Can't stand TOTP's in principal.
Art is about performance, not lip syncing. The Cult would have destroyed that room if they were allowed to play.
The singer can’t hit that note any more. Sad
Well I have heard and seen The Cult now, I think I'll golisten to some real music now, seriously I don't know what ya'll raving about.
On your way out can you stick your finger in an electrical outlet?
Guess you had to be there. Real music? People saying that always makes me laugh as they never quantify what counts as real music. If they say Vivaldi, Beethoven or Chopin they have a point, but if they say Oasis, U2, Pink Floyd or any other such mainstream rock band then it’s not so interesting.
Lip Sntc.... sad
Lip syncing
This song is too big for the biggest stadium on Earth. Macho power. Awesome.
