- Delhi Junction railway station is the oldest railway station in Old Delhi, Delhi, India. It is one of the busiest railway stations in India in terms of frequency. Around 250 trains start, end, or pass through the station daily. It was established near Chandni Chowk in 1864 when trains from Howrah, Calcutta started operating up to Delhi. Its present building was constructed by the British Indian government in the style of the nearby Red Fort and opened in 1903. It has been an important railway station of the country and preceded the New Delhi by about 60 years. Chandni Chowk station of the Delhi Metro is located near it.
The station started with a broad gauge train from Calcutta in 1864. Metre-gauge track from Delhi to Rewari and further to Ajmer was laid in 1873 by Rajputana State Railway and metre-gauge trains from this station started in 1876.
The present building of the station was built in 1900 and opened for the public in 1903. Started with just 2 platforms and 1000 passengers, Delhi railway station now handles more than 180,000 passengers and around 190 trains starts, ends, or passes through the station daily.
The Old Yamuna Bridge, also known as Lohe-ka-Pul, or "bridge number 249", located in Delhi, is one of the longest and oldest bridges in India. Construction of the bridge started in 1863 and finished in 1866.[1] It was opened for public use in 1867. It is a double-decked steel truss bridge which runs across the Yamuna river in the eastern part of Delhi. The bridge runs east-west across the Yamuna river connecting the city of Delhi to its neighborhood of Shahdara. It was constructed in 1866 by the East India Railway at a cost of £1,616,335. It was built with a total length of 2,640 feet and consisted of 12 spans of 202.5 feet each.
In the nineteenth century, two principal cities of North India, Kolkata and Delhi, were connected by railways, the bridge being the last link on this route. The bridge initially had a single line, and was later converted to a double line. There is a discrepancy about the year the second line was added; one source says that "In 1913, this was converted into a double line by adding down line girders of 12 spans of 202 feet each and 2 end spans of 42 feet to the bridge."But another source says "It was built for a single railway line but converted into a double line in 1932 and reopened in 1934"because of increased traffic on this section.
It has the capacity of serving roadways as well as railways simultaneously. The upper deck carries a two-lane railway line which connects Old Delhi railway station to Shahdra railway station, while the lower deck carries road traffic.
A new 992.25 metres (3,255 ft) long bridge is under construction adjacent to the Old Yamuna Bridge.
The bridge was commissioned in 1866, but before that, the original Delhi Junction came up in April 1864 in a temporary building before the first train service started. That structure could accommodate only 100 passengers at that time and had only two platforms. The first train from Howrah arrived in Delhi in 1864, but there was no direct line up to the station. So the passengers had to get down before the river and cross it by boat. Sometimes even coaches also crossed to the junction on boats, according to railway officials.
In 1904 the Agra-Delhi line was opened. Delhi then was a part of six railway systems. East Indian Railway, North-Western Railway, and Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway entered from Ghaziabad crossing the Yamuna river. Delhi-Panipat-Ambala Cantonment-Kalka Railway ran northwards from Delhi, and the Rajputana-Malwa Railway traversed the Delhi district for a short distance in the direction of Gurgaon and Rewari Junction.
इस पुल को हमने कई बार देखा है। यहां पर पहले ही से रेल की बहुत धीमी गति रहती है। इस स्टेशन पर रेलवे ट्रेफिक का बहुत दबाव रहता है।नए वाले पुल में जरूर से ज्यादा समय लग रहा है।इसे तत्काल प्रभाव से जल्दी ही बनवाया दिया जाए।❤❤❤

हद हो गई नये पुल को पिछले 20 वर्ष से काम करने के बाबजूद भी पूरा नहीं कर सका रेल प्रशासन।रेलवे की दृढ़ इच्छा हो तो शीघ्र ही कुछ वर्षों में यह नया पुल निर्माण पूरा हो सकता है। हम जानते हैं की भारतीय रेल किसी भी चुनौती को सहज बना सकती है।

यह रुक गया था मोदी सरकार ने दुबारा काम खोला राजघाट बाईपास बन गया इसलिए दुबारा एलाइनमेंट किया गया नए खम्बो को बनाया गया कुछ खम्बो में वही समस्या आई जो सिग्नेचर ब्रिज के नीचे मिली चट्टान से थी अब काम तेज हो गया है लगभग दो साल में यह रेलवे परिचालन करने लगेगा

अटकाना,लटकाना,भटकाना । घोषणा के समय वाजपेई जी पीएम थे। नीतीश रेल मंत्री। हर साल बरसात में रेल रोकनी पड़ती है। पूरब की और जाने वाली गाड़ियों के लिए शास्त्री पार्क में रेल स्टेशन को कुछ प्लेटफार्म बनाकर पुरानी दिल्ली स्टेशन का दबाव कम किया जा सकता था।
