You can also fold the end of the tape over on itself, which creates a tab.
Good tips, and you have pretty and graceful hands.
Love the hack on using clear tape to remove lint! Handy and practical tip! I had forgotten the aluminum foil hack until watching this.I am cutting foil with a pair of dull scissors right now.😘
🙏🏻
Masking tape will do the same clean job for a fraction of the cost!
Would recommend sharpening the entire blades of the scissors, not just the first 1/3 or 2/3... thanks for the rest of the tips.
I use the small square tab, often found on bread/buns bags for the tab @ the end of the clear masking/packaging tape, instead of an "expensive plastic coated paper clip. The bag clips are "free", too.
The tape around the "pressure foot" can be eliminated if you could find a "teflon" foot for your machine; often in sewing accessories area of big box stores or just ask @ a quilting store.
I would not recommend placing the sharp end of a threaded needle through the thread still on the wound spool as it can spilt the thread. Instead, insert the blunt end of the needle (where the eye is) first.
I always have a knotted piece of thread on needles I place in my pin cushions.
I bought an extra large pin cushion with a strawberry attached (for sharpening needle & pin points), drew lined down from top center to the bottom center. I used these newly divided sections for different sewing machine needles. Labeled each area with an extra fine Sharpie marker. This saved time when having to switch to a different type of a needle, or when changing a broken needle. I use a large (retired) medication plastic bottle with a childproof cap in place, to store my broken/bent/dull pins & needles. When it is full, I just tape the cap closed with duct tape, write "SHARPS" on the tape & place it in the garbage bag.
I use the square plastic bag closures for narrow tape and junk "credit card" type cards (those that come in the mail) cut in half width-wise for wider tape.
Que buenas ideas! Ojala mostreatas algunas fotos aclaratorias.
I use all of these tips that you mentioned except the bread tab as an "end" for clear tape. Never crossed my mind. We learn from each other.

The tape on the thread will make a sticky mess of the thread and gum up your machine.

As will the rubber bands if left on there a long time.
This was my thought.
Instead of tape...make a small cut on any both or any one side of the reel and pierce the thread end in it.
@@devinderkaurgrewal nice idea👍
Wow wow wow! The overlock stitch tip is amazing and just what I needed! Thanks! ❤
hi April have been sewing for 40 years or more and have just come across your hacks by accident absolutely buzzing because some of them are brilliant will help me out so much thanks 😊
Thank you so much 🥰
Isn't sewing FUN? I love sewing and have done it over 45 years now. I love coming here to see what's new and I learn so much more. Have a wonderful day!
Thank you 😊
A well designed great video...BUT resist the urge to tape the ends of thread on the spool! Time and/or heat leaves icky stickies. Shoving a sharp needle through the threads of a spool is SO tempting, but just wait until nicked thread snags under stress in a garment or under the tension of the sewing machine
good thread have a needle storage in one end of the spool. Screw open and store inside. agree with you on the sticky tape, there normally in a little cut in the spool or a second ring at one end to hold the end of the thread
They have netting that fits over you thread you cut to size.

Use press and seal glad wrap instead of tape.
Having not so great eyesight now I use a small crochet hook rather than thread a needle with the overlocker threads. Push the hook along the channel (starting about 30mm from the finished stitching) towards the end & pick up the thread chain. Pull back up the channel & snip off any excess. Same process but no small needle eye to deal with.
I have never heard of cutting up foil to sharpen scissors; amazing!

Danke!
Vielen Dank
Muchas gracias por compartir. Muy importante saber esos trucos.. Saludos desde México 🇲🇽 Querido
These were all great ideas. As far as the thread and the tape and the thread being sticky you just cut that and off and then it's not sticky anymore better to lose a little thread then to spend time trying desperately to thread the needle which only frustrates you. I also liked the tape and how you mark it so you can find the end again the pink clip. I truly enjoyed this video it was very helpful thank you for posting
Thank you so much for your comments ❤️ ☺️ 😊
The paper clip under the tape edge and the scotch tape around the presser foot are great ideas!!
Thank you so much 🥰
Skeptical about tape around presser foot - would glue from tape not stick onto machine needle!!? Prefer buying teflon pressure foot. All other tips are good except that at 80 I've already come up with them myself!!
Muchas gracias.
I learned a few new clever "tricks"! Thank you for taking time to post this video.👍🏼

Loved the tip for matching the stripes! And the one where you use the old small end of thread to pull the next thread through the needle-- very good!

Matching stripes the best.

Great ideas. What do you do with the bits of foil once you have cut them up? We used to use strips of newsprint to stabilize slippery, thin or bulky materials for sewing. I use ziploc bags to tame my threads and bobbins. If you pull the tail thread under the wound thread on a bobbin it will stop it unwinding..
Thank you so much for your comments ❤️
Fenomenal! Muy buenos trucos para empezar a trabajar. Gracias

Thanks for sharing these wonderful tips.
For the tape, you just turn the end under and stick it to itself... no need to find a paperclip etc. You do NOT sew faux fur right side up, you always turn it over and sew from the reverse side. Most spools of thread either have a place to run the end through, like the third kind you did, or there might be a little slit/notch in the plastic that you can pull the thread tight thru... when threading a needle with thicker thread, you do not need extra stuff like tape... put the thread/wool over/around the needle, pinch the thread where it goes over the needle with your thumb and index finger and hold tight, pull the needle out, and you should have a tiny fold/thin end of thread or yarn loop that will slide into the needle's eye easily.
I did like the hint about using making a knot by wrapping the needle and pulling through as well as the using the short thread to pull through the new piece of thread...
The music you chose however was not pleasant but since you were not talking, it was easy to turn off the sound.
I agree. The tying bought threads together is what I do with me serger. Instead of having to retread all four lines, which can be tedious, I cut the thread from the beginning and tie on the new color thread. Then I take the two threads out of the needles, gather all four of the older thread by the needle and pull back. The new thread follows the old thread through all the twist and turn and finally the new thread is out of the back. Then I cut and rethread the two needles.
Phaul, have you thought of making your own video instead of shredding someone elses?

*************Phaul, have you thought of making your own video instead of shredding someone elses?
Shredding? I was giving constructive criticism....it is how we improve on our skills etc. I did not 'shred' anyone... however, the video makes this MORE complicated, not less. I thanked them for hints that did work, but this was more of a timewaste than a help....
And as a matter of fact, I am a TH-camr... I have a cooking channel, and I appreciate any constructive criticism, in fact, I asked for it, especially when I was first starting out. So, since I am a creator, I thought I would give some suggestions on making the videos better...
Have a lovely day!! :)

Meravigliosa idea

There should be a small notch at the bottom of the plastic cone or the wooden spool on which the thread is wrapped. It's there so you can run the loose end of the thread through the notch in order to keep the thread from unraveling and tangling with other spools of thread. No need for tape on the spools of thread.
🙏🏻
Excellent, well done 👍
Mind blowing ideas thanks for sharing ❤️
Thank you 😊
Actually most spools have a trench/rill in the cardboard/plastic/wood that is made for fixing the thread tail. If there is not: An angular cut and you have one.
To fix the tails of bobbins (lower thread) I use plastic bottle caps - the ones that have a small ridge at the bottom. I press the bobbin in untill I hear a gentle cracking sound: then it's fixed, can't turn and even doesn't fall out held upside down. Then again: an angled cut in the cap rin holds the tail.
Instead of using plastic bags to make sewing of 'stubborn', slippery or very thin (like organza) textiles easier, I suggest to use a sheet of wrapping tissue [Seidenpapier], newspaper or even college block. Any sheet of (thin) paper will do the trick. That's how our grandmas solved that problem - without producing plastic waste. For our environment!
Additional tipp: A lined/checked college block page will also help you (learn) sewing straight.
For the tapes, I use the tape. :) I just flip over the end making it stick to itself - one corner is sufficient to keep it from sticking and have something to grab next time. Or I use any piece of waste (tape, paper,..) just at hand.
Muy bien 👍
Very good ! I loved!
Magnifique. Merci
