The trend in 3:47 wasn’t destroyed it was likely a pullback in a larger move in a time frame. It could be a good scalp but the issue is unless you placed your entry a little above the close of that big candle then you probably would want to wait for it to retest the area it broke out of..

Uggggg... I like your videos Rayner but respectfully you dropped the ball on this one. Hindsight is 20/20. False breakouts are more common than actual breakouts. Take for example 3:17 area of the video. You chose the swing low at approx. early October. You could just as well have called late Oct or early November a swing low. Then in that case the trend has been broken. But you're using a chart where you know what the outcome will be. Large scale traders know where the buy and sell stops are and they just LOVE to eat up small retail traders but hitting those stops.

how many candles is a typical strong pullback. I see pullbacks with several small body candles as well as some with one large body candle. How do I determine which pullback is a major one to watch for in terms of "pullback or reversal".

Hi Rayner, thanks for the great teaching again. In your example at 8:00, the chart pattern is like a "M" shape, a possible sign of downward trend. Of course, there is no 100% certainty in any chart patterns. Any view to share in future when there is an upward trend (high higher and higher low) but we see something like "M" shape. Thanks

What does it follows then?
The indicators tell you what has happened, and the idea is to extrapolate from what has happened, to find what MAY happen. Obviously the market does not care about the lines on a chart, but if you can understand technical analysis like this, you can determine with some degree of probability what is currently happening or soon-to-be happening, based on what has already happened. For example, if I get invited to a birthday party, I can assume that there will be an exchange of presents. This has nothing to do with my understanding of the exact people or situation, but my analysis infers that it is likely that given previous experiences, presents will be exchanged. Birthdays don't care about presents... but from repeated, demonstrated analysis, I can assume that the people at birthday parties care about presents.

Nice try. In your first two demonstrations your selection of swing low or low pivot point is improper. The last swing low is the next correction unless your definition includes a specific amount of bars or a specific amount of price variation or both.
In the first example, the highest swing low is part of a bullish head and shoulders pattern (H&S). As price breaks this last swing low, it breaks also the H&S, price moves to the predicted price given by the H&S. It did not pass your Swing low and changed to a bullish movement.
In your second demonstration, same behaviour but it pierces your swing low and went further down.
on a cherry picked chart also you could show risk reward of 1.13 only. what bullshit....
