Mentioning the Leper and not going on a 5-minute rant on how bad it is? Who is this man and what did he do to Filthy?
I m pretty sure that the Leper is a very good class for Darkest dungeon. Every class can be good or bad. It depends how you use it
Vegan Warlord Apparently you are new to the channel. Filthyrobot hates the Leper with a passion and often rants about how bad it is
I ve seen it and I have a different opinion. It s easy to apply Filthy's logic against some of his favorite heroes also. Ie riposte could be considered a weakness according to Filthy because it destroys the 1-2 ranks which he so likes to keep alive for what he calls "the healing phase" of the battle. This is wrong of course but that s why he says he hates the leper.Well since a class like MaA and HwM can do just that via riposte why this perception of the leper? But even if we accept his logic again he is wrong. Swine hook for example is a heavy hitter and starts usually within the leper s reach. Besides what s this logic about keeping 2 enemies alive to heal stress and HP? You only need 1 so the leper can clear the other fast. Furthermore the "how good is the" series fails to acknowledge teamwork. The Leper s speed for example which Filthy sees as a drawback is actually an advantage as it offers time for the occultist or BH to pull or MaA to push back thus bringing The leper in range. It s how you use each class. But honestly I LoL when he trashed the crusader. The crusader is the most reliable class in game he can heal, stun, cure stress, tank and deal damage.
Vegan Warlord Chill out, man, I didn't say I think Leper is trash (I'm not good enough in the game to decide that), I just made a joke about Filthy's hatred for the class
Vegan Warlord i agree with some of what you say, but he keeps two alive to avoid the reinforcement mechanic. I use leppers, but its true that there are better classes. I personally hate the fucking accuracy of the lepper, if you dont have the right trinkets, is incredibly unreliable
Whenever Filthy says something like "I think X is good because Y and Z" and I already use X I feel really warm and fuzzy inside like I somehow made the Efficiency God of Darkest Dungeon happy or something.
potatoatak efficiency is very important
They do give you an achievement for building red hook.
First pick obviously.
"This should be a fairly short video"
almost half an hour
For a filthyrobot vid that is insanely short.
was literally just about to post this when i saw your comment.
26:00 Fox News: "The Leper (...) has good (...) skills".
Something about your cadence is so soothing and gives such a stabilizing impression of calm competence I listen to these tutorial videos going to sleep lol. Even though I don’t have Darkest Dungeon installed right now…although I now have a powerful urge to reinstall it, since I haven’t been able to grab DD2 on sale yet, penny pinching IRL not just in the Blacksmith 😂
I got the bank straight away saved some gold and ended up with 400k gold (week 40 or something) meaning I dont even need to use my resources to upgrade gold savings on the buildings
Huzzah for compound interest working in your favour!
Oudwin code geass is a good anime
Capitalism Ho!
Urke yes it is
Per Erlandsson hahaha yea
I've got a challenge idea for your next challenge run. You cannot purchase any town upgrades (possibly excluding stagecoach?) until you've completed The Red Hook Monument.
that sounds like an insane grind. I would have to bring an antiquarian with me in each dungeon run
I dunno, I thought the same of his season 12 challenge that doesn't allow him to bring the best classes. It would make the early game significantly more challenging, and the mid game would still be quite difficult as you're trying to play catch up with your upgrades, so you'd have to make decisions about what you actually can upgrade when you send a party on a quest.
pretty sure you also just couldn't do that on stygian or bloodmoon. you'd spend so much time grinding up crests that by the time you'd have it you'd have lost a month of your 3-4 time limit
The granary saves between 300-750 gold [75g * (4~10)] each week.
Speaking of Knowledge Curios, 2 of them are negative quirk purgers, 4 of them are what you describe as "random positive/negative quirks), 4 of them have cleansing interactions which give treasure, 1 of them has a cleansing interaction which cures stress [this statistic includes Courtyard curios). So overall, a bit over a third of the knowledge curios are just pure quirk givers.
Not to mention that one of your main objectives is to distill good quirks to your characters, while bad ones can be cleansed quite easily, meaning that even a possibility to gain a good quirk is worth it in a void. A single quick reflexes can make a hero drastically better, but to maximize the chances of getting those good quirks, you just throw a lot of shit to one character, locking the good ones and cleansing the bad ones(while aiming for five locked meaningless bad quirks) while tossing all of the complementary chumps down the drain. Heroes are a limitless resource, time and exp limits are not.
Yeah but if you have 20k in savings the bank will give you 1000 for that week. So theres really no point in buying it for the monetary reasons vs the bank.
Michael Gibbons true. The bank is bonkers.
+Michael Gibbons Of course there is, it gives you less, but it's much cheaper than the bank. Busts are much easier to give up/gather than portraits.
It's not even an either/or thing. You can get both, (but you probably won't need both.)
MB You need blueprints to construct the districts, and those are dropped by veteran and champion bosses, so you aren't going to see too many of them until later in the campaign, so you should get the best ones first
Unrelated to the topic, but there's a chance you'll see this, so fuck it.
Just wanted to say thanks. Your insightful content has sorta brought me back into the game. Somehow I worry a lot less about a lot of things now, especially death's door. Feels good.
You're cute. :)
Aren't you supposed to be yandering around your love interest?
I am. :)
Run.
Good luck with that.
Firstly all your guides are quite good, but one thing you should mention is the icon to the right of the crests icon on the town screen. It allows players to trade heirlooms (busts, deeds, portraits, crests) to the heirlooms they require to buy buildings or upgrades.
I managed to build the bank on week 11. Spend all my heirlooms to do so. At the same time I increased my roster size till I had 20 heroes avaible. Till those heroes reach level 2 I managed to gather enough heirlooms to upgrade guild and blacksmith to their needed levels. It was a rather rough start but in the middlegame I had no money problems whatsoever. A few Antiquiterian runs should be enough to really kickstart the interest gain.
I'm doing the opposite, first upgraded everything and got my gold with Antiquarian runs, now I'm going to build the bank. Getting a bit tired of digging around for gold.
Non-recommended districts: this one here (Athenaeum), this one here (House of the Yellow Hand), this one only in very specific scenarios (Sanguine Vintners), this one (Puppet Theater) and this one (Granary). This one only for the really pro gamers (The Red Hook).
Maybe it's just me, but the very end of the video when you're saying "I don't recommend this one here, this one here, etc" your mouse cursor was not displayed, so it was pretty hard to understand which building you were highlighting. I think people get what you're trying to say, just a little observation for the future.
I actually think the puppet theater. If I send a team of high levels out to collect treasure, it's handy if they're under high stress and I need to level up a lower level character. I can run a few jobs with the weaker ones while the higher ones can idle stress down faster. After three jobs, they lose 45 stress.
Lately, I use this and only send them to the bar or church when afflicted.
Oh, yeah it does cost 55, Filthy. Sorry about that. I'll correct it soon
Cartographers camp makes dark runs really good, if you have a moon cloak / moon ring setup on all of your characters (excluding vestal, preferably healing skill buffing instead) with a shieldbreaker, maa and jester, the dodge and prot is extremely helpful and makes shambler fights a joke because everyone keeps dodging like madmen and tanking crits, assuming you can handle the stress with your jester and critting enemies
As Baertaffy would say, fuck books.
Thanks for these guides. Even as a veteran player, I still enjoy watching them. Keep it up!
Robot are you ever going to do a video on some party comps that work well for you? I've gotten pretty consistently good runs with the hound, vestal, highwayman, and hellion. I can't seem to get a team together that works as well as they do using other classes.
To be 100% fair, duh. Vestal = THE healer role, Hound = THE stress healer / stunner + secondary damage dealer, highwayman = THE damage dealer, hellion = THE damage dealer/stunner. They are basically the absolute best classes for each role they fill (especially as the Hound does in fact rival Jester for stress heals). It comes as no surprise it works great, and I think it'll be a true struggle to manage to find something that works better (you'd need an insane synergy).
How are you arranging them? I'd mostly do vestal-highwayman-hound-hellion, but idk.
I've been going vestal-hound-highwayman-hellion but I like the jester too so I sometimes go Vestal-highway-hellion-jester and my first action is jester finale to the back. Really can't come up with a group that preforms better or even as good. The occultist heal is just too inconsistent to be reliable and the abomination stresses the whole party when he transforms and he just doesn't seem like he does enough damage to make up for him stress nuking himself and the party.
Same with the man-at-arms he seems decent but you can't really run him with the hellion and the hellion is so much better in terms of damage and stunning that I don't feel like the man-at-arms can even really compare.
At least in terms of jester vs Hound the jester has better single target stress healing and more reliable stress heals but the hound wins in terms of projecting damage to more ranks, and having far better camping skills. +50% scouting is just way too good to pass up.
It always seems that because the healer and the stress healer have to be in the back two rows to do what they do that there isn't ever space for an arbalist or a plague doctor. I've had success with bounty hunter's in rank two for their flash bang and their increased damage vs stun with the hellion's barbaric yawp but the highwayman's shot can hit all four ranks and when he needs to finish off a low hp target he can hit the entire enemy team and kill the one guy and get damage on the rest. The bounty hunter can't do that.

Classic James
The bank is neat, but you really have to stop what you are doing and just mass gold farm for 4+ weeks strait after you get it for it to be any good and that's really quite an investment of time. You basically need to keep an absolute minimum of 100K in it at all times.
I absolutely LOVE the cartographer's camp.
It makes a massive difference in loot drops particularly if you are stuck adventuring with the lights on in those early high level dungeon dives where you are throwing yourself into them without properly upgraded heroes. I run the vast majority of my missions without torches where the other bonuses from the cartographer's camp actually are quite nice particularly the scouting and surprise bonus because in this game the only time you ever really get put in danger is by bosses or a surprise attacks by elite mobs.
Any time you can avoid getting jumped is a huge boon because one crappy fight where you get shuffled and the enemy strikes first will do way more harm to your party than a dozen normal battles. This is particularly true if you are running speed based parties like I do. The way I play I like to have most if not all of the monsters either dead or stunned before they get to move the first time and getting jumped throws such a massive wrench in that plan. Nothing sucks more than having your party full of super speedy glass cannons and stunners subjected to an entire round of free beat downs by elite enemies.
Just do a couple of antiquarian runs and it's all good
Just wanted to say I really have loved all of these videos on all the classes as well as the marking video. Super helpful to see all the ideas that you have on the roles for the classes and your theories that drive your gameplay. Keep up the good work.
Hoping for a quirks video, talking about what quirks to lock for each class.
I am early, let me make a joke
leper
Kripperinos are leaking everywhere
I am the most noticable Kripperino in Darkest Dungeon...!
Statisticserino Kripperino my poor hero waifu
26:30 For the TLDW version.
That monument is slightly better than the leper.
Actually afflictions are removed when a hero reaches 0 stress
They're removed that way during missions, but does it happen when the heroes are idle in the Hamlet?
@@Guille2033 It doesn't, you need to get that final stress heal in the dungeon.
your mouse is not visible in the final part of the video, making the summary pointless
Haha, because no mouse means you can't point.... (help me)
The Red Hook gives you a hidden achievement.
The athenaeum' stress healing only works on that three heroes, which makes it more useless
does anyone has any link where he does no light challenge runs he is allways refering to those but i havent seen 1
I almost shit myself when you said something positive about the leper.
The part at the end where you say "This one here" ten times...
Your cursor isn't visible
What did Finale used to do?
alfarabi73 Damage
I know, but I am wondering how high it was compared to what you have now.
alfarabi73 before it did +150% damage (IIRC) and it didn't have a limit of uses per battle so you could 1-shot someone at the start of the battle. Now you have to build the damage multiplier up through the battle and I believe it doesn't do as much even when you do build it up.
Finale used to be just a plain "elephant gun" with 150% damage multiplier and big crit bonus too (i think 7%), meaning that stacking Jester with speed and damage you could put him into pos1 and oneshot any enemy 1-3 positons before they could act, saving you a lot of everything. Now Finale's base damage is dogshit, and you can only use it once. The only remedy is Solo giving Finale a damage buff, but Solo can only be used 2 times per fight.
So now you are supposed to charge Finale for at least 2 turns for it to be relevant at all. A stupid change in my opinion, proper fighting in DD is about minimizing the amount of actions your opponents take, and this makes you prolong the fights instead. It's garbage for boss fights too, since you can only use Finale once, and its not worth it, you can have a normal DPS hit 3 times and Jester Solo twice and Finale, and there wont be any difference, except DPS is actually flexible and valuable. Even with old Finale it was not that OP because you needed a fitting team comp and after using Finale Jester would often be stuck in rank 4 healing stress. Oh well, it is what it is
AFAIK it had a MUCH higher damage bonus (did something like a total of 250% of base) from the start, so you could pretty much 1-shot nearly anything. As it can hit back to rank 3, and shifts your Jester to the back, it was a potent way of nuking a priority target in the first round especially as the Jester would often go first with the high base speed.
Now it's not as reliable, and you can faff around building bonuses to it, but doing that involves moving your party order around which can be tricky if you've not remembered to build/plan it.
At least that's what I gathered from the changes as I've seen them.
Nice video. Thanks
MOST EXCELLENT!
flagellant nerf in colors of madness or i'll have a heart attack
Good news.
Pro-tip: Watch the video at 1.25x speed :)
oh hi mark!
I want to like this, but it is at 666 which seems perfect for this game... naaah I’ll like it anyway!
The bank is a noob trap, since you need to HAVE money to make MORE money.
At 100.000 Gold, you can pretty much fund expeditions with Bank money alone, but don't just blindly rush it.
not a fan of the red hook, eh?
Wait you are not supposed to upgrade the stress building?
Neat
Video could've been 35 minutes long if it wasn't for the the weed whacker (+10% chance to prevent FilthyRobot from shitting on the Leper, and most importantly rounded up).
The plague doctor (who is female btw) actually does have a debuff: Noxious blast debuffs accuracy a tiny bit
plague doctor is a girl :O
I actually think the bank might be horrible. The bank pays for itself after you've had 300 000 gold untouched. Threehoundredthousand! I don't know about you but I tend to spend my gold inbetween dungeon runs to make use of the time limit. Sure the interest is added on to itself but the time it would take to have had 300 000 gold untouched in your coffers would be inanely long. And then you're not even even after you've earned the 15 000 from the bank.
You mention the meta a lot, but I can't really find anything that gives a somewhat comprehensive breakdown of "the meta". I'd really like to see what the "best" overall comps might be.
In short, killing and/or disabling the enemy back ranks as fast as possible, and then heal/stress heal before the end of the combat. That's the 'meta" in this game.
as there's no competitive multiplayer in darkest dungeon there's no meta to begin with
I have an old patch since I don’t like new content, sad to see the buildings are all different
Ideal heros can be cured of afflictions but it only happens when they reach 0 like in a dungeon.
"this one here" ... we cant see your mouse pointer XD FAIL!
My Leper is unusually consistent in his hitting ability... what’s wrong with my Lazarus???
Yay moreee
You really over devalue debuffs. I love em
Just because you like them doesn't make them not-shit, which 90% of them are compared to what you could be doing in their stead.
You can heal affliction by passive stress heal every week.
Noice
thumbnail could use a little more imagination
Most of those so called "tips" are kinda usless - unless you play on radiant or on heavy mods amout... I mean OCC debuff useless?!? Really? The best [after vestal and lep] debuff in game usless? It makes like any champion encounter easy like the green one mob fight. Debuff any heavy hitter for -80 dmg and he cannot hit you for more than ~6 dmg. Same goes for lepper - you said its usless class - wtf mate, the second best single target dps a worst class? Just equip him and lock some acc quirks. I mean no disrespect but i find almost all your vids a total bullshit, like we play two difrent games o.0
Zekzt Yeah I love the guys ideas and he's no doubt better than me at the game but he's very closed minded!
