Beautiful tribute to a jazz guitar giant. I had the great fortune of seeing him play live with Diana Krall years ago and he completely blew me away. RIP Maestro Malone.
Andy, not only do I admire you for your teaching and playing but also for the depth of your influences and sources. You're a really insightful operator, brother. 🫡
I also discovered Russell Malone through Diana Krall's All For You album. When I owned an audio store in 90's, I would often demonstrate stereo systems with All For You and Love Scenes. I made it a point to find out the source of the great guitar playing and have been a fan ever since. I was deeply saddened to find out of him passing at such a young age. I'm listening to Hit That Jive Jack as I write this. After Diana Krall plays a fabulous piano solo, Russell follows with an equally fantastic solo at 2:27 (anyone reading this should take at least a couple of minutes to listen to it). Thank you so much, Andy, for this nice homage to a jazz legend.
Hello, I was watching a George Benson video and he had mentioned his friend Russell Malone. Now I am just getting to know his music and style. What a great jazz guitar player. thank you .......
I used to run into Russell quite often when we both lived in Atlanta during the 80s. Besides being a great guitarist, he was a fine and quite unique human being. The past couple of weeks have been very difficult. He will be missed by many.
