The best and safest place to launch a kayak in La Jolla is the La Jolla Shores Public Launch. You are actually allowed to drive on the beach to launch your kayak. Keep in mind that the area inside the cove is a reserve, so you'll have to paddle to the area outside the point at La Jolla Cove. A fairly long paddle but worth it. -FishandHook
+Lee Chickering There is a buoy that marks the reserve, once you are past the buoy you will start to hit the kelp beds, in and around the beds and farther west is where every goes. I know this is 7 months late, but let me know if you have already went out.
honestly any pole will do for YT in LJ over 20lb rating...but i like seeker's G670...but ive caught them on a lot of different rods, just find one you like, pull on it in the store to get an idea. good luck!
Scares me at the point of the gaff--keep "seeing" a big CA Sea Lion come up--as I have seen so many times while fishing---grab that Yellow and yank hard
I`d much rather hear that drag screamin than that lousy music. lol

Nice! thanks for posting.
Great vids man. Curious, where/how you mount your GoPro to get the angle you are shooting at. Thanks.

Do you just fish outside the Matlahuayl State Marine Reserve with a GPS or is it just a ballpark area?

Is this close to Coronado?
south of torrey pines

Get yourself another kayak trolley and it'll be much easier to drag it all the way back to/from the parking lot! ;)
Damn, I want to get a kayak now! AHHHH!!!!
