What I like about swain is that he is not the typical noxian "BIG STRONG MAN" stereotype, he's a strategyst a diplomat and a real warmonger. His ability to see the memories of others make him terrifying for the sheer power of intel in the right hands. He's ready to make any sacrifice or heinous action no matter the cost and has a right cause which makes him, truly, a great villain.
Yes of course because he acts as the brain or the head of Noxus while the Typical Big Strong noxian guy Darius acts as the muscle or even the fist of noxus.

@@pgp555 Swain isn't mentioned directly and it's conjecture that swain killed Mel's brother. It'd have to be someone powerful and with alot of resources so Swain fits the bill, but there are many other people who would also fill that description like Vladimir. People think it's Swain because of all the crows in the show but you can't tell if they're Swain's ravens or just birds for symbolism.
It all depends if she's on Swain's side or not. If so, then it might have been someone from the Black Rose. I like to think she's opposed to Swain and she needs Piltover's tech to fight Swain but who knows.
Possibly season 3, since season 2 will focus on jinx and vi again, maybe Mel will return home at the end, and we'll follow her and begin the noxus journey

The quote at 8:19 is actually two quotes combined on accident. “His secrets died with his sculptor” is an interaction with Galio when Swain collects his soul. “His blood is the only useful thing about him” is an interaction with Jarvin when Swain collects his soul.
There's a few more combined quotes in there, not on accident though, but cool that someone noticed :)

The three eyed Raven is actually Brynden "Bloodraven" Rivers, an albino bastard of Aegon the unworthy, who very much impersonates Swain, as he was rumored to have practised foul sorcery, so much that people said he had "one thousand eyes and one", even before he was exiled to the wall.

Truly, the scariest form of a villain one that knows what he does and proves their facts. Any self claiming “hero” would fall to those sharp talons of his.
Every time I saw a Raven in Arcane I started freaking out a little bit. With how seriously a lot of other stories have progressed... Swain is not to be trifled with.
Swain's lore is really interesting but it doesn't exactly show how he got that demon hand but it probably has ties to the Mordekaiser rework lore. So here's Swain's lore summarized in case you didn't get some of the quotes (updated with TL;DR version below).
Swain was born into a noble family of Noxus which held great power during the times of Boram Darkwill's rule since they represented the heritage and the country's strength. Although for some nobles this power just wasn't enough and they plotted against Darkwill in secret as a secret cabal named The Black Rose. Swain executed many of these traitors of them his own parents and eventually the mention of a "pale woman" reached Swain and made him question if he valued his house or his own people. The Black Rose sought power, "a shapeless voice cackling in the darkness of the Immortal Bastion. _something like a raven's caw._ For unmasking and executing Black Rose members Swain was commissioned in the Noxian Army and there he learned that Noxus was not strong because of it's army, rather it's power to unite people of all origin and race. All the same however "Swain found only darkness in the wake of each battle. _Clouds of carrion crows._ Swain gained his reputation in Shurima where he raised many Noxtoraa (Noxtoraa are gates of black stone that are a sign that Noxus has claimed the territory). However Swain eventually figured out that it was solely greed that drove the empire forward on these campaigns, Boram Darkwill's greed. In the invasion of Ionia Darkwill ordered warbands to search for any items rumored to extend a mortal lifetime, and with Swain's army scattered engaging in battle was suicide. In the Battle of The Placidium Swain attempted to lure the Ionian militia into a trap, however the Ionian's saw through this and Swain's warhost was overrun. "His veterans were routed, and Swain was gravely wounded, his knee shattered, Ionian blades cleaving through his left arm." As Swain lay there on the brink of death a raven came to feed, he felt an old, familiar darkness wash over him. But Swain couldn't let the darkness take him. As Swain looked into the eyes of the raven he saw the evil in Noxus. The pale woman, the Black Rose and the puppet emperor. Swain realized that The Black Rose was not defeated, they led him to what should be his death after all after seducing Darkwill. This was not glimpsed simply in the mind of a raven, no, it was something more and as he stared back he saw red eyes blazing in the dark. Swain was thrown out of the military for his failure and was now merely a cripple. Swain wouldn't live like this though he set out to find the power The Black Rose was after. It was an ancient entity that fed on secrets and to defeat it and claim it's power Swain saw what it could not, a way to wield it. Swain and his allies took many years to plan the overthrow of the "emperor" but it was only in a single night that they took Noxus. Unlike Darkwill Swain had a vision for the empire and that was strength and unity. Swain made the call for the soldiers to come home from Darkwill's unwinnable campaigns and he established the Trifarix which means that there would no longer be one soul ruler of Noxus but there would now be three, one who would embody Vision (Swain), one who would embody Might (Darius) and one who would embody Guile (unknown as of yet). Darius also established the Trifarian Legion, a mighty army of "the most loyal and prestigious warriors the empire could produce." Swain would now accept any who would join the empire even The Black Rose although he knows they still plot against him. Swain gathers knowledge as the demon did before him and Swain has seen dark threats to Noxus but "many Noxians wonder if the darkness they face will pale in comparison to the dark things Swain has done." These sacrifices are only the beginning, for the good of Noxus.
*TL;DR:* Swain was born during Boram Darkwill's rule. Swain learns of a secret cabal calling themselves The Black Rose, Swain executes Black Rose members and earns himself a place in the army. Swian realizes that strength through unity is why the empire is powerful. Boram Darkwill's greed is the sole thing driving the empire forward. During the Battle of The Placidium in Ionia Swain realizes that The Black Rose was not defeated but instead they planned his downfall through their puppet emperor. Swain now cast out of the military seeks the power of a knowledge demon and with his allies they take Noxus and kill Darkwill in a single night. Swain establishes the Trifarix (meaning no one person will have complete control over the empire). Swain gathers knowledge and has seen the darkness that lurks inside Noxus, many wonder if the darkness they face will pale in comparison to the dark things Swain has done."

1. Swain's knowledge demon is probably named Raum (pronunciation: Rah-oom) because in Fiddlesticks' interactions he calls the demons he sees either by which emotion they feed on or by their name like for example when he sees Tahm Kench he simply says "Tahm Kench" or "addiction" and Fiddlesticks when he meets Swain says either "Raum" or "secrets."
2. Two of Swain's allies who took Noxus in a single night are Draven and General Du Couteau (pronunciation: dew-coo-toe). General Du Couteau is also the father of Katarina and Cassiopeia and adopted father of Talon, he has also been missing according to lore for a while now.
3. It was Irelia that cut off Swain's left arm.

As Swain lay there on the brink of death a raven came to eat and Swain felt a "darkness press upon him again" but he wouldn't let the darkness take him but when he looked into the ravens eye he saw the pale woman and her puppet emperor Swain realized he didn't see this in just the raven it was something more something... demonic and then he saw it demonic glowing eyes flaring in the darkness surrounding him. Swain was cast out of the military for failing and was called a cripple but Swain didn't care all he wanted was to uncover what he saw on the battlefield that day in Ionia. Swain realized that the demon preyed upon the dead and absorbing their knowledge as Swain stared into that darkness once more he found a way to wield it. After claiming the demon's power Swain and some of his followers assassinated Boram Darkwill and became Grand General but even he knows that The Black Rose and their "pale woman" still plot against him.
So in a logical sense, swain is the good guy for noxus?
I think based of the appearance of the hand and how his ultimate ability looks like it's most likely the arm of the demon of knowledge after he claimed it's power on the battlefield

Jacob Clark like maybe the “ Claiming of the demons power” is that the demons power was able to give him his hand back but darker and magical

I’m planning on doing that with Jhin or Aatrox.
Make sure that he's not actually out for his own gain, simply trying to hold back something horrible. Maybe the sacrifice of villages was to empower a seal that keeps away lots of Eldritch nonsense.
Maybe he's not a ruler, but rather an incredibly zealous demon or vampire hunter, trying to destroy the threats to the civilians, simply catching up the party in his crusade.

Swain's quotes make him one of the deepest characters in the lore, I'd say.
I still wonder what his end goal is, what has he seen?
Well knowing that the very very old Noxus Boss(so old it wasnt even named Noxus yet) Mordekaiser aka King of the Underworld is on his March to get back what belongs to him and he "gathered" many undead soldiers to build an army i think Swain is somehow trying to Hold against a "Thing" that even death failed to consume and if Swain fails to do so Mordekaiser will be taking all over Runeterra but thats just my opinion :D
