Percy's class comes from Pathfinder, which they were playing before stream. They switched to 5 edition DnD because Pathfinder is very math heavy at times, and Matt just blended the class into fighter abilities

He did multiclass into Warlock for a few levels, but he's basically a Pathfinder Gunslinger with trick shots. And gunslingers in Pathfinderare pretty OP damage wise. Add in Action Surge and all of his attacks, he really puts out an incredible amount of damage

I loved how you screamed 'The horses!' It is a thing in not just the campaign stream but it can be for D&D in general. Whenever you go into a dungeon, you leave your steeds behind unattended while you explore the dungeon. Being unattended can lead the Dungeon Master to allow unexpected things happen to them. In the campaign stream as they rode to Whitestone, they had to forge ahead on foot and released their horses and heard the screams of harpies behind them (which he foreshadowed earlier) feeding on the horses they left behind tied to a tree.
Ashley Johnson voices PIke (and played her of course). She had to Skype into some games when her schedule allowed, and they leaned into that in the animated show. They're all pretty famous voice actors (and actors).
Everyone underestimates Keyleth because she's nervous and inexperienced, but Druids are immensely powerful at later levels, especially Circle of the Moon Druids like Keyleth who can turn into much more powerful beasts.
They can also shift as a bonus action (other Druids use the action that you need for an attack), can burn spell slots while Wild Shaped to restore health to their animal form, and their attacks count as magical, which really helps at later levels.
In the original stream, the moment where they figure out that people hanging on the tree were effigies of them was really dark, it was the first thing that clued me in that this story was not on no soft shit.

@@IceMetalPunk Well, if they're in a party with others, the clear answer is 'make sure he faces consequences for even trying', but if it's just the two of them the bigger issue is 'why are they even traveling together, and is it metagaming for him to act out this grudge against another player when his character scarcely even knows them'. Beyond that, though, I'm afraid I don't have a good answer for you. There's no way to be permissive and restrain this. The best you can do is determine whether or not the motivation for him is in-character (and thus can be negated by his sister not playing the character his character has a beef with) or out of character (in which case I'd recommend introducing them to the game SEPARATELY, rather than both at once because he's not going to play nice with her no matter what he's playing).
Fun Fact of the Episode! The folks strung up in the sun tree are actually one short from what happened in the campaign. The briarwoods had their men drag a bear out of the woods to hang next to the group to represent Valx’s bear Trinket.

Matt’s (The Dungeon Master and VA for Silas Briarwood + a bunch of extras) description of the hanging tree was so incredibly brutal. The party was sneaking through the city, and they all saw the tree like in the show, but instead of seeing the entire group hanging all at once, Matt described them one by one. He was deliberately vague, talking about red paint being driven through the hair of the one to represent Keyleth, a small boy with a silk purple shirt for Scanlan, and the black smudge marks for Grog’s tattoos. He didn’t mention names, though. Percy understood it first and walked away, and, like in the show, Keyleth was the first to vocalize that it was representative of them. Sheera was right about it being a message, too.
after the campaign it was established that Percy perfected the gunpowder guns and equipped the militia of Whitestone with muskets. so, 20 years from now, Whitestone has it's own Swiss guard armed with the only muskets in the world while everyone else is still on Castle Age tech.

In their campaign, they made it to whitestone with the horses, and left them in the mountains. When they came back, they were eaten by harpies. I guess they decided to get it over with a little sooner lol🤣
Percy is the only character with a gun, because before the show, the group wasn’t playing D&D, they were playing pathfinder. A game like D&D but different. So when they started live streaming the cast switched over to playing the most recent version of D&D-5th edition.Unfortunately there was no gunslinger class/option at the time, so Percy’s class had to be created by the Player and the Dungeon Master.
There are lots of Easter Eggs for the streaming show in this episode. For example, when Vax is looking at weapons and he says 'dagger, dagger, dagger... stake'. That is a reference to how Liam O'Brien would announce his character making his attacks as he would be throwing 3 daggers. In the flashbacks where they talked about their favorite kills, those were animated scenes from other things they did in the stream that wouldn't really fit in the overall story arc for the animated show but they felt were noteworthy. Like when Keyleth was trying to push that guy down into the lava so he'd die quicker and be quiet.
From my own D&D games, I remember doors being a big deal. Everyone was paranoid that the DM was going to have a trap or an ambush, so opening every door was a huge production, with thieves trying to detect traps, detect magic spells, etc. Percy has other guns, and they all have names. Because he is the inventor of guns in this universe, most of the weapons have a high chance of something going wrong when he uses them. I have to give credit to the screenwriters, who had to distill hundreds of hours of D&D gaming sessions into a coherent TV series.
Yeah Pike (Ashley Johnson) was in the cast of Blindspot as a regular. The writers even wrote her a line about her playing a Gnome Cleric. But she would only be able to come back randomly and play a session here or there as she was in NYC most of the year. Every once in a while she would basically video call in and play remotely
Lupa! If you're interested in D&D and you don't want to spend a ton of time, you can adjust that as you want with a group; some groups play for 2 hours, others play for an entire day. You can also play for a single session (called a 'One-shot') or for a whole multi-session campaign. A lot of groups are very welcoming of new players so if you're interested just jump on in my man; its a fun hobby!
So I think that finger trap in the shop is probably a very smart and sly reference to those who understand how spell casting works in dnd. Many spells require different components usually including things like Physical items from a clump of dirt to a diamond worth 500 gold, as well as verbal spoken incantation, shown often in the show particularly by Lady Briarwood, and the final is gestures or hand movements that can include, funny enough moments like hand signs from naruto. So when keyleth got her fingers stuck in the trap, it's a cheap version of a mages foil or spell caster hand cuffs, she was actually basically useless.
It's wild, how many of these horses is be rough situations and the gang be causing me to laugh despite the situation. Love these guys and keep up the great content RoshGang💯

The thing that made this interesting is that it was a bunch of voice actors playing D&D. The games were streamed, and this particular group of players/streamers revitalized D&D for a whole new generation. Because they are all voice actors (including the Dungeon Master), when they play the characters, it sounds great. Plus, because they've been acting for a long time, they have a sense of how stories should go. Based on that, I think it would be great to see some other types of people playing D&D just to see what would happen. For example, a group of authors. D&D is essentially interactive storytelling, so authors playing D&D should be interesting. Or maybe improv comedians playing D&D. Back in the 1980s, I remember when TSR made an effort to include non-European gods, monsters, myths, settings, etc. into D&D. It would be fun to see Asian-American players doing a D&D game based in a Far East fantasy setting, or African-Americans playing in an African fantasy setting. Preferrably, this would be people actually familiar with the appropriate ancient mythology, stories, etc.

Didn't see anyone else comment on this-- so here goes. The animators have added dice into the scenes whenever they can. The different shaped dice that are used in Dungeons and Dragons (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20). The "gem" that Gilmore traps them in is an 8 sided die.
So at the end, Sheera and Lupa talked about the voodoo and knowing Vox machina was coming, which is bith true, Deliah Briarwood has dark magic which ya saw in ep 3, one spell i think she had was Scrying, which allows you to see where the person youre targeting is at, and the black sword that Sylas had, had the boood of grog on it, so they could use that and see where they were, hence why those beasts appeared where the group was
Agreed Percy needs a sniper Riffle, that would be nothing but Bad News for his enemy. When they are talking about their best kills, except for Scanlan all their stories are actually taken from the campaign

They recently finished making their characters and I was about to start planning, but then their dad (who also has never played, but apparently has seen the old D&D movie from the early 2000s 🤷♂) decided he wants to play, too, so now I have to wait for him to make his character before planning.
As someone who's in this situation of trying to get kids to enjoy the game on their first time playing, maybe you can give me a little advice? My nephew is playing an assassin rogue, and before I've got any of the story decided (other than their individual backstories), he's already decided he wants to murder his sister's character in her sleep as soon as possible. I don't like telling players "no, because no" -- I think the fun of the game is the freedom to at least *try* anything -- so how would you recommend I keep the kids from PvP'ing each other to death right away without railroading them too much?
(In her defense, my niece, who is the YOUNGER of them, has said she'll only attack him in self-defense; so the question is really "how do I get my 15-year-old nephew, playing an assassin, to not murder his sister's character, without ruining the fun he's clearly expecting that cathartic symbolism to bring him?" 😂)
@@IceMetalPunk Well, if they're in a party with others, the clear answer is 'make sure he faces consequences for even trying', but if it's just the two of them the bigger issue is 'why are they even traveling together, and is it metagaming for him to act out this grudge against another player when his character scarcely even knows them'.
Beyond that, though, I'm afraid I don't have a good answer for you. There's no way to be permissive and restrain this. The best you can do is determine whether or not the motivation for him is in-character (and thus can be negated by his sister not playing the character his character has a beef with) or out of character (in which case I'd recommend introducing them to the game SEPARATELY, rather than both at once because he's not going to play nice with her no matter what he's playing).
Fun Fact of the Episode! The folks strung up in the sun tree are actually one short from what happened in the campaign. The briarwoods had their men drag a bear out of the woods to hang next to the group to represent Valx’s bear Trinket.

Matt’s (The Dungeon Master and VA for Silas Briarwood + a bunch of extras) description of the hanging tree was so incredibly brutal. The party was sneaking through the city, and they all saw the tree like in the show, but instead of seeing the entire group hanging all at once, Matt described them one by one. He was deliberately vague, talking about red paint being driven through the hair of the one to represent Keyleth, a small boy with a silk purple shirt for Scanlan, and the black smudge marks for Grog’s tattoos. He didn’t mention names, though. Percy understood it first and walked away, and, like in the show, Keyleth was the first to vocalize that it was representative of them. Sheera was right about it being a message, too.
Ironically, that shit with Keyleths player goes even further!

after the campaign it was established that Percy perfected the gunpowder guns and equipped the militia of Whitestone with muskets.
so, 20 years from now, Whitestone has it's own Swiss guard armed with the only muskets in the world while everyone else is still on Castle Age tech.

Percy is the only character with a gun, because before the show, the group wasn’t playing D&D, they were playing pathfinder. A game like D&D but different. So when they started live streaming the cast switched over to playing the most recent version of D&D-5th edition.Unfortunately there was no gunslinger class/option at the time, so Percy’s class had to be created by the Player and the Dungeon Master.

There are lots of Easter Eggs for the streaming show in this episode.
For example, when Vax is looking at weapons and he says 'dagger, dagger, dagger... stake'. That is a reference to how Liam O'Brien would announce his character making his attacks as he would be throwing 3 daggers. In the flashbacks where they talked about their favorite kills, those were animated scenes from other things they did in the stream that wouldn't really fit in the overall story arc for the animated show but they felt were noteworthy. Like when Keyleth was trying to push that guy down into the lava so he'd die quicker and be quiet.

From my own D&D games, I remember doors being a big deal. Everyone was paranoid that the DM was going to have a trap or an ambush, so opening every door was a huge production, with thieves trying to detect traps, detect magic spells, etc.
Percy has other guns, and they all have names. Because he is the inventor of guns in this universe, most of the weapons have a high chance of something going wrong when he uses them.
I have to give credit to the screenwriters, who had to distill hundreds of hours of D&D gaming sessions into a coherent TV series.
Yeah Pike (Ashley Johnson) was in the cast of Blindspot as a regular. The writers even wrote her a line about her playing a Gnome Cleric. But she would only be able to come back randomly and play a session here or there as she was in NYC most of the year. Every once in a while she would basically video call in and play remotely

Lupa! If you're interested in D&D and you don't want to spend a ton of time, you can adjust that as you want with a group; some groups play for 2 hours, others play for an entire day. You can also play for a single session (called a 'One-shot') or for a whole multi-session campaign.
A lot of groups are very welcoming of new players so if you're interested just jump on in my man; its a fun hobby!

Percy's pepperbox pistol is named "The List" for the exact reason that each barrel is inscribed with the name of one of his targets.
So I think that finger trap in the shop is probably a very smart and sly reference to those who understand how spell casting works in dnd. Many spells require different components usually including things like Physical items from a clump of dirt to a diamond worth 500 gold, as well as verbal spoken incantation, shown often in the show particularly by Lady Briarwood, and the final is gestures or hand movements that can include, funny enough moments like hand signs from naruto.
So when keyleth got her fingers stuck in the trap, it's a cheap version of a mages foil or spell caster hand cuffs, she was actually basically useless.
It's wild, how many of these horses is be rough situations and the gang be causing me to laugh despite the situation. Love these guys and keep up the great content RoshGang💯

The thing that made this interesting is that it was a bunch of voice actors playing D&D. The games were streamed, and this particular group of players/streamers revitalized D&D for a whole new generation.
Because they are all voice actors (including the Dungeon Master), when they play the characters, it sounds great. Plus, because they've been acting for a long time, they have a sense of how stories should go.
Based on that, I think it would be great to see some other types of people playing D&D just to see what would happen.
For example, a group of authors. D&D is essentially interactive storytelling, so authors playing D&D should be interesting.
Or maybe improv comedians playing D&D.
Back in the 1980s, I remember when TSR made an effort to include non-European gods, monsters, myths, settings, etc. into D&D. It would be fun to see Asian-American players doing a D&D game based in a Far East fantasy setting, or African-Americans playing in an African fantasy setting. Preferrably, this would be people actually familiar with the appropriate ancient mythology, stories, etc.

I've used my horse as a distraction against a T-Rex in D&D. It was mauled but we got a surprise round.

Didn't see anyone else comment on this-- so here goes. The animators have added dice into the scenes whenever they can. The different shaped dice that are used in Dungeons and Dragons (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20). The "gem" that Gilmore traps them in is an 8 sided die.

So at the end, Sheera and Lupa talked about the voodoo and knowing Vox machina was coming, which is bith true, Deliah Briarwood has dark magic which ya saw in ep 3, one spell i think she had was Scrying, which allows you to see where the person youre targeting is at, and the black sword that Sylas had, had the boood of grog on it, so they could use that and see where they were, hence why those beasts appeared where the group was
