This song was written for his roommate and best friend, Andrew Wood, Who tragically died of an overdose. Andrew was the lead singer of the band Mother Love Bone. After Andrew passed, Chris wrote this record with some of the remaining members of Mother Love Bone and his band Soundgarden. A then unknown singer by the name of Eddie Vedder makes his first ever studio recorded vocal on the track Hunger Strike. A classic album was the result. Most of the remaining members of Mother Love Bone went on to form Pearl Jam with new Lead vocalist Eddie Vedder
Thank you for so perfectly summarizing the Temple of the Dog origin story, I couldn’t have done it better myself . This was perhaps the first grunge supergroup?
@phillipthornton8106 Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington, and Dolores O'Riordan were killed for funding the doc The Silent Children to expose a US / Israel child pedophile rape ring. Chester is the bastard son of John Podesta from Pizza Gate, do the math.
My absolute favorite Chris Cornell performance!!! I lost my mom to cancer 3yrs ago on Monday. I’ll put my kayak in the water, float & just put this song on repeat!!!
@@jeremeywilson2318sorry for your loss. I’m in the hospital now with my mom who is about to pass and this reaction video hit differently with where I’m at. Now I just want to continue to listen to this song. 😔

I also suggested Sunshower. It was not a big hit, I think it was on the soundtrack for the movie Great Expectations. I'm sure a lot of Chris's older fans know the song. The new generations should thank you because that song is amazing. I still listen to it from time to time. Especially when I'm feeling a little down.
Amber listens to music with her entire being. Makes me think I'm listening to these songs for the first time. 90's was a great time for music. RIP Chris.
Yes Chris went solo, His four solo studio albums released during his lifetime were Euphoria Morning (1999), Carry On (2007), Scream (2009), and Higher Truth (2015
"Sunshower" was his best solo tune. Amazing song. I don't know if it made it onto one of his solo records. I do know that it was on the soundtrack for the movie Great Expectations.
Eddie and Jeff made cameos, too. I think they were watching a documentary on bees, lol. Loved that silly movie because I loved all that grunge music.❤❤
The whole reaction, I’ve been thinking that you need a photo of Chris Cornell on your wall right next to the axe. Then, when the display fell behind you, I thought, “Mmm hmmm. That’s the universe telling you to put his photo up on the wall.”
Matt Cameron is the drummer of Temple of the Dog. He is Soundgarden's drummer and Pearl Jam's current drummer for the last near 30 years, he's awesome! This song was written about singer Andrew Wood, singer of Mother Love Bone. They were about to hit it big when Andrew died of a Heroin overdose in March of 1990. Temple of the Dog was a one off tribute album and it's Legendary. Members of TotD includes every current member of Pearl Jam. I HIGHLY suggest Times of Trouble, but the album has nothing but gold on it!
Chris Cornell and Andrew Wood were roommates as they were coming up in the Seattle scene.... and obviously Stone and Jeff were band mates with him. I still say that this and "Far Behind" by Candelbox are the two best tributes to Andrew Wood.
They all over used that story for fame , Andrew wasn't that great of a singer, mainly a druggie, funny none of these guys cleaned up after his death but wrote lyrics and made millions about it 🤔 quit falling for these Seattle heroin loser bands
I think we all hope Chris said hello to heaven seven years ago this month when he passed away in my hometown of Detroit. Chris Cornell is one of the greatest vocalists to ever walk the face of this Earth. RIP Chris, miss you, man.
I start crying just with the first note.. his writing is awesome to go along with his beautiful voice.. imagine what other music he would have given us if he was still alive.. I miss him so much.. plus this is such a sad song he wrote for his friend when he died.. RIP Chris
As someone else already said: he did go solo, he also did a song for the Bond movie "Casino Royale" named "You know my Name"... awesome song, you should definitely check it out.
Band is essentially Pearl Jam now that Matt Cameron is a permanent drummer for them. But it was basically 50/50 PJ and Soundgarden. Whole album is amazing.
I miss Cornell so freaking much. I remember being at work when I found out he died. Me and like 5 other crew members were so bummed out. His sound is so unique. At least we have his music to remember him by.
One of Chris’ greatest vocal performances in my book, in a career and lifetime just loaded with them. His range, his power, and rawness. The final chorus is a knockout. One of the strongest voices the world of music will ever know.
This was beautiful and Amber... we all felt your tears. This song was life altering for many of us late-teens/early 20's kids back then. I was going to explain the origin of this band and the song; but another viewer beat me to it; and described it perfectly. FYI....Queensryche actually covered this song on stage the night Chris Cornell passed away. The video is on TH-cam.
He's got great solo work. When I'm down, sweet sunshower, before we disappear, Josephine. He even had a song for a Bond movie. Through the window. Seasons. Y'all wanna hear his range ? Acoustic in Sweden. The audio is incredible. Soundgarden, Temple, and Audioslave. One hour of him and his guitar and a mic. Cover of mj's Billie Jean incredible. Chris Cornell one of the best solo performers ever. There's an album called "Songbook" Just Chris Cornell live with the acoustic guitar. Freaking amazing
This song hits me so hard every single time. Once you know the backstory of why Temple of the Dog was formed and you hear Chris just pour all his soul into this song its just so powerful. RIP Andrew and Chris
Chris Cornell’s voice conveys so much emotion and depth. And this CD evokes so many memories of my early 20s. When my husband and I first started dating, this was the CD we would fall asleep to. The song “All Night Thing” is still our song. ❤
To answer your question, Yes. Chris Cornell had 5 studio albums and one live album: Euphoria Morning (1999) - lite rock, kind of psychedelic Carry On (2007) - lite-ish hard rock Scream (2009) - People talk sh*t about this album because it's a Pop/Dance/Rock collaboration with Timbaland, but it still has some great songs and Chris's voice. Songbook (2011) *LIVE Acoustic Album Higher Truth (2015) - acoustic folk rock No One Sings Like You Anymore Vol. 1 (2020 - posthumously) - some of his favorite cover songs Notable Singles: Seasons - 'Singles' soundtrack Sunshower - 'Great Expectations' soundtrack He also had two compilation albums: The Roads We Choose - A Retrospective (2007) Chris Cornell (2018)
Nice. I liked seeing the emotion. 😢 Chris Cornell still brings me to tears and I have been following him for 30+ years. So so many songs I could recommend.
Yep - Chris Cornell went solo for a time - also fairly successful that route. As Temple of the Dog, you should really check out "Pushing Forward Back" - that song will rock your face off. :)
My all time favorite Cornell recording!! Summer break in college I remember driving with this song blasting in the middle of the night on a highway with the windows down.
I'm so glad you have got to more Chris with Temple. "Call me a dog" is another masterpiece 👌 ✨️ 😍 I once heard him sing this live in one of his acoustic shows, the crescendo of the song hits, he nails those notes and then the song ends. The audience is hooting and hollering and then when the noise dies down, a voice shouts out loud "You're quite good at this Chris!" .... it cracked us all up including Chris. 🤣
Always makes me think of my friend who died from cancer over 10 years ago. Especially the "and he hurt so bad like a soul breaking, but he never said nothing to me".
Chris Cornell did quiet a bit solo work. Temple of the Dog was an early grunge project with PJam to salute their friend Andrew Wood, one of many Seattle artists who were crushed by and lost to demons. Right then something crashed in your room. Spooked… bye!
Everytime I hear Teme of the Dog and especially this song I'm almost brought to tears. RIP Andy Wood. I was lucky enough to see Mother Love Bone open for Dogs D'Amor in a little club in Philly. Music would be totally different if his brand of Love Rock lived.... and of course Cornell singing with pure passion
I was fortunate enough to see Chris and Soundgarden on the Badmotorfinger tour all those years ago in Philly. Truly an amazing talent gone far too soon.
Chris has a very wide catalog of solo work. If you want to hear a bluesy side of Chris, listen to When I'm Down or Call me a Dog. He did songs for movie soundtracks, Live to Rise for the Avengers movie, the Promise (which is a tearjerker), and you know my name for the James Bond movie Casino Royale. Speaking of movies, Chris and Soundgarden, Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam, and Alice in chains were in the movie Singles. You should do a reaction to that.
If anyone thought they used a green screen :P Temple of the Dog was such an emotional project. Friends paying tribute to another friend lost, so amazing.
Alice Mudgarden is the artist credited for "Right Turn" on the Alice in Chains album "Sap". Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, and Soundgarden collaboration. Enjoy!
Chris Cornell (RIP) is one of the best vocalists ever and most recognizable voices! He could sing a phone book and make it sound great! 😆. Love his cover of Sinead O'Conner - nothing compares to you 🔥🔥. Check it out sometime!
Chris Cornell died May 18, 2017. Yes he did have solo albums plus 3 albums as the the lead singer of Audioslave(guitarist, bassist and drummer of Rage Against The Machine)
After Soundgarden he went on to have a solo career for several years before and after Audio Slave. Euphoria Morning was his first solo album off after Soundgarden... Some of my favorite solo songs he did that I think you guys should check out are: Sunshower, Can't Change Me , and the one I can't listen to anymore (too emotional for me to hear it, but my all time favorite) Preaching the End of the World! His death hit me hard and its never been the same trying to listen to his music since! I've often said to friends, if I could choose to sound like any singer, it would be Chris for sure!
If you want to hear real emotion, it's been mentioned several times in the comments but you got to take a listen to Chris Cornell's cover of Nothing Compares to You. Make sure it is the live version at XM Sirius studios
Miley Cyrus performed this live with Temple of the Dog at Chris' memorial concert (yes Miley Cyrus!) and in my opinion, did a fantastic job of attempting to cover one of Chris' signature songs. Definitely worth checking out in tribute to the great man.
Dont know about a solo career but Chris does sing "Nothing Compares to You" and if you ever want a great cover song of Prince and Sinéad O'Connor, LISTEN to Chris's version....AMAZING!!!!!!
Finally. Maybe this one will catch on with other channels too. He might have higher notes or bigger belts, but it all culminates with this one, possibly his best overall performance
Chris Cornell was one of the greatest vocalists to ever walk this earth. He could sing anything.

🖤With that voice.....he would be welcome in any band😊
Finally. Maybe this one will catch on with other channels too. He might have higher notes or bigger belts, but it all culminates with this one, possibly his best overall performance
One of his most beautiful songs is a later movie cut called, "The Keeper." Acoustic guitar, Chris's Voice; Stunning.
