- I was working in my office restocking my mini fridge with soda pop and Todd asked for his Jingle Ball and then said he wanted it later. I thought maybe he was being nice and saying he wanted to play when I was done working but he usually says Soon if that is the case. I told him he could have it now if he wanted and went downstairs to retrieve it. When I got the Jingle Ball back upstairs I offered it to Todd and threw it for him. He just watched it go and looked at me like "I said later." lol. This is another example of Todd planning his day. He will tell me what he wants to do now and later.
Todd is a 6-year-old neutered male cat at the time of this video. Todd and his dad have been learning to communicate with each other since May of 2022 with the help of recordable buttons. We aim to let Todd express himself and tell me his wants and needs. Currently, Todd has 51 words on his soundboard. This channel is dedicated to Todd learning to “talk”. That's pretty much definitive proof that both backfoot presses are intentional, and he understands what "later" means.
Yes, he knows later means loner than 15 minutes and multiple later refer to days. When I travel for work I tell him Dad has to Bye and I'll be back later, later, later if I'm going to be done for 3 days.
Somebody (Kendra?) says “later morning” for tomorrow. I wonder if there would be a way to check if rapid “later morning, later morning” (or maybe “later morning, later later”) would more accurately help him understand the length of a two-day trip??

@JMA864 since I have taught him the multiple later method I don't think I want to change it on him. It may confuse him.

@@boggy7665 Quite likely. If a word is used consistently with some connection to a routine then there is every reason a cat should be able to understand tomorrow. 🙂
@@LindaVernon Left Kitty at folks' when I moved away. Couple years later, had to bring her to my apt 2 hrs away for 2 weeks while folks were away. She didn't like my apt or being in the car. (Began to enjoy the car if looking out the front, but not out the side lol.) Brought her home for the weekend to give her a break & then finally, each time told her the day before 'We'll go home tomorrow' and then 'Tomorrow is today, let's go home'.
Some months later, had Mom bring her to the phone & told her "I'll be home tomorrow, see you tomorrow". From her reaction when I got home, pretty sure she knew what I was saying. So only a few times hearing it, not a long-term many-repeats thing. And nobody else talked to her & explained things like I did. Mom used nonsense baby talk w/ her.

Yes, I leave that there, hoping he will play with it. It needs a true Jingle Bell put inside to become a real jingle ball. Right now, it is an Orb of Sadness.

FYI: Dollar Tree sells jingle balls, pack of 6 for $1.25. I'm sure they're not exactly like Todd's "genuine" jingle balls, but I think they're close, and the bells inside are metal (not plastic). Worth a try anyway! 😉
Thank you for looking! But a box close to 100 Orbs of Sadness I donated to a shelter showed Todd won't accept close. Lol Unfortunately for it to be a Jingle Ball worthy to be played with it must be 1.5 inches in diameter, be half hot pink and half blue. A true Jingle Ball must have the exact lattice pattern on the ball and have a 4 tine metal jingle inside. Viewers Kaylee and Harmony were able to find a rabbit toy that had Jingle Balls inside and sent me 20 balls. They are exact in every way except they have a 3 tine metal jingle inside and Todd won't touch them unless I replace the jingle. Todd knows what he wants. Lol
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks Yeah, I should've known better, because I already knew all of those specifications except for the number of tines on the bell. FWIW... the Dollar Tree jingle balls are 1.5 inches in diameter, and each ball in the 6-pack has a different color combination but one is hot pink & blue, and their bells are metal with 4 tines. However, instead of a lattice pattern, they have cutouts of fish and paw prints. If nothing else, maybe the bells would be good candidates to be donors for your bell replacement procedures. Just thought I'd give you the info, just incase it's helpful!

Aww 😢 I also stopped playing guitar due to severe arthritis in my wrist & fingers. Arthritis doing better now under treatment but I'm always afraid it will flare up if I play again.

You were putting away soda was it metal cans? Maybe she also thought her jingle ball which is metal needs to be put away and not left downstairs so it can be ready for you like your so that can be ready for use.
