Mariah has this weird thing with her voice that when her chest voice is not as strong... her whistles are perfect! But when her chest register is up there then her whistles are kinda weak... and actually her whistles are more agile when she's sick... its the nodules probably

well Celine's and Bey's voices haven't changed as much over the years like Mariah's. Mariah has a v special voice and it literally changes tone all the time and she can and can't hit different notes depending on the circumstances

We are talking about how the volume or whichever aspect of sound engineering is not on par with the live parts, in fact it usually sounds way lower than the live parts in Mariah´s case. While Bechonce and Celine´s backing and prerecorded tracks sound perfectly in sync with their live vocals.

That’s because Mariah has become the ultimate queen of lip syncing. She has more pre recorded versions to all of her songs than any other artist by a clear mile. She often sing the easy parts live (although she sound like she’s struggling every time) and lip all the hard parts to one of her massive collection of pre recorded vocals (that have been enhanced in the studio). To see snow in Kenya would be more realistic than to see Mariah sing an entire song live 🤭

Marian still has a voice, for surebut it's so inconsistent. As you haven't heard or watched her live since NYE it would've been great if you checked out performances from her recent Vegas show instead of this iHeart festival. the climax in we belong together was mostly lipped BUT the "times get rough" was live you can hear her 2018 tone and she's never sang it like that before (ive seen many performances) and also the last note was live.
I watched it live and was so proud of her! Thanks for reacting. She's a lot more comfortable at fan concerts. She's been more calculated for televised events, possibly due to the backlash she's been getting. You can also hear her nodules squeaking at times during this show so I imagine she was thinking about how to sing around them. She's also probably wearing something that is restricting her breathing. Definitely check out her concert performances though. She's not as carefree vocally as she used to be, but she's far less calculated at those and takes more risks. Even though her execution isn't always perfect, it's nice to see her still go for it. You've missed A LOT since that NYE performance (2 years of 1 to Infinity residencies, 2017 Christmas concerts, the All The Hits tour last year, and most recently the Butterfly Returns residency). Time to get caught up!
Mariah has always been the most harshly criticized singer over the years as well as Whitney. However people need to understand she isnt 1990 Mariah. Yes ,she can still can perform her old music but her voice has age some. So every note she use to do doesn't sound the same now. I love this performance because she gave you a little of everything. Her nodules have been playing up for ages. Your theory about her lipsyncing is fine, I can believe it that she recorded some parta My theory is that she sings most of the parts and you can notice that bc you hear a little whistle very squishy and barely unnoticeable behind her chest voice and that's called polyphonic tones. It can be heard mostly in whistles even at the beginning of her career. This occurs because of her vocal nodules. If you hear Infinity live in one of her performances you can hear it in the long whistle
She’s older now and people still what her to sing 🎤 5 octaves LIVE she’s more comfortable in her middle range now with is in the high 3rd octaves and low to mid 4 octave. She can still the whistle but it’s taxing on her now. The highest in chest voice in comfort is like a C5 after that it not as easy it used to be. I applaud her for having the guts to perform songs from the early 90s and still slayed. It may not seem like it but her voice is actually sound preserved although she’s developed a scratchy tone due to years of constantly touring and Recording Studio albums consecutively, and Nodules. Her voice sounds good. She’s a Champion.

Yes, she did lip some parts, I'm sure about that. But that's not a problem, most of the lipped parts here, she can sing and improvise in her concerts and hee tours, she just chooses not to improvise in televised performances because tv performances are too risky since it can catch most of the flaws or difficulties that could occur. She played safe in this performance. Come on! Even Rihanna, Ariana, or any other artists lips some parts of their songs or evwn dodge it especially when the song is a song that they havw released and sang YEARS ago! Everybody SHOULD KNOW THAT! Even us regular people, we used to hit those notes that are waayyy up there! But now some of us can't, there are certain vocal registers that we used to enter with ease, but now we can't. That's how it is! Ariana used to hit the whistle register, but now she's struggling, hence she uses her falsetto. Aren't we all done with the whole "Mariah Carey can't sing" yet?
Turn your speakers up! Nearly EVERY time she was lipping you can hear her faintly projecting whistle register. Most evident in 'WBT' sustained note at the end - you can hear same note an octave up. Nearly every time she would lip, you can hear whistles, simply cos she's still pushing out air as she's doing so, to ease right into her live notes.
Thank you for your reaction! I think you articulated one of my issues with Mariah's performances nowadays. I don't have an issue with her lipsynching either, but I feel that Mariah's live performances suffer from it because she can never truly be in the moment. Look at any performance where she's confident and in good voice, like her incredible Thank God I Found You performances from Las Vegas... She isn't worried about hitting her lip synch cues. She's working the stage instead of being glued to her microphone stand. I think her lipsynching massively diminishes her stage presence.
she sang the we belong together part. its not that hard for her to hit those notes. why ? because its a completely different part of the voice thats used for those super high mixed belts. without the microphone she would actually be really quiet and the power behind it literally comes from the mic. the most difficult notes for her to sing are the notes that lie around her 2nd and third bridges. why ? because thats the place where there is the most uncertainty. its kind of like yelling really loud then going higher and higher, eventually your voice will come to a break where it will crack. mariah carey used to be able to push through this continuously which gave her a massive edge over other singers when singing but as she aged her vocal break have appeared and increased in size. she still has her range, its just not full. like drawing i line with some dots in it. perfectly normal for a 48 year old.
Love mariah but what she does is she records like 3 or 4 versions of one song. For example she recorded we belong together but she records it different each time so when she lip syncs it dosent sound like the studio version. She also has like 5 different versions of the whistles in emotions thats why it sounds different each time
yeah her "calculating" her next notes has happened a lot and most of the time since the general public started hating her. She's really insecure and hardly confident on stage but Always Be My Baby she was actually confident and that was promising for what's to come from this year. If Mariah would lower the key for her live performances and then just hit the whistles for the high notes she's known for she would be even better. I grew up singing and am taking vocal lessons now to increase my range. I know from experience that it's easier to hit whistle notes than it is to sing in the 5th octave some days. I can hit a G6 like nobody's business, but ask me to just belt a F5 or G5. I can do it but you gotta give me a minute 😂.

It's obvious when she's lipping, since there are accidental whistles in the background. She seems to have started doing Emotions (some) live quite a bit again. I doubted it at first but then I saw Fly Like A Bird this year and oh damn. I don't even mind rasp, I just love some confidence. Also, is this technically the first Fantasy performance since Daydream Tour, that's fully live lol

I love Mariah. She lepps in some parts, sometimes we can see that (It's like that, shake it off, aways be my baby...) and sometimes it's is hard to see (Emotions, we belong together...). If I were her I'd record the hight notes in the same week, month to looks live and. In some performances she lepps with the record track and it sounds fake. But I love her so much, she did a amazing performance and I hope she have an amazing era.
When mariah lips certain parts such as belts, she often still pushes out air as if shes still singing to make it seem more real. Buuutt the problem with that is that it seems like she's closing her cords, which brings her noduals together. (Which is how she normally creates her whistles anyway) That's why like in we belong together or its like that, you can hear accidental sqeaking or whistling over the backing track. Its very clear that that IS whats happening when that happens. I think it's pretty cool if I'm being honest.

Yeah lamb conversations about Mariah lip syncing are usually had behind closed doors. When in the public eye, you're gonna get comments like "she sang 90% live". I hate to break it to you my friend, she sang WBT live. She’s been doing that for a while... you played yourself because you haven’t watched her since 2 years ago. This was mostly live all together. Mariah’s voice has actually been on the up for a while now. She’s sounding damn good. This video doesn’t really help her case because people would rather believe she lip synced to a track than she actually sang ... especially since she’s singing to her voice.

I watched it live and was so proud of her! Thanks for reacting. She's a lot more comfortable at fan concerts. She's been more calculated for televised events, possibly due to the backlash she's been getting. You can also hear her nodules squeaking at times during this show so I imagine she was thinking about how to sing around them. She's also probably wearing something that is restricting her breathing. Definitely check out her concert performances though. She's not as carefree vocally as she used to be, but she's far less calculated at those and takes more risks. Even though her execution isn't always perfect, it's nice to see her still go for it. You've missed A LOT since that NYE performance (2 years of 1 to Infinity residencies, 2017 Christmas concerts, the All The Hits tour last year, and most recently the Butterfly Returns residency). Time to get caught up!

Mariah has always been the most harshly criticized singer over the years as well as Whitney. However people need to understand she isnt 1990 Mariah. Yes ,she can still can perform her old music but her voice has age some. So every note she use to do doesn't sound the same now. I love this performance because she gave you a little of everything. As far as lipsyncing fine by me😁 because one thing about her she always switches it up somehow. I'm Just Happy she still performs, people need to appreciate the Legends more while there here. 👍👍

I grew up with her & age does start to change your voice. I give her props for practicing/training her voice. My favorite songs is "Fantasy" "Heartbreaker" "Vision of Love" "One Sweet Day" "Always Be My Baby" & "Without You"
I believe she sang most of it live, some I think she was singing over the track over her backing vocals other parts she did lip but she is trying to preserve her voice. Her nodules have been playing up for ages. Got to commend her though for attempting to hit and sustain notes she hasn't done in a while or was too afraid, you can tell she is gaining confidence day by day she hasn't sounded this good in ages! She sounds and looks amazing and those whistle were all live plus the climax of WBT wad live.

My theory is that she sings most of the parts and you can notice that bc you hear a little whistle very squishy and barely unnoticeable behind her chest voice and that's called polyphonic tones. It can be heard mostly in whistles even at the beginning of her career. This occurs because of her vocal nodules. If you hear Infinity live in one of her performances you can hear it in the long whistle
She’s older now and people still what her to sing 🎤 5 octaves LIVE she’s more comfortable in her middle range now with is in the high 3rd octaves and low to mid 4 octave. She can still the whistle but it’s taxing on her now. The highest in chest voice in comfort is like a C5 after that it not as easy it used to be. I applaud her for having the guts to perform songs from the early 90s and still slayed. It may not seem like it but her voice is actually sound preserved although she’s developed a scratchy tone due to years of constantly touring and Recording Studio albums consecutively, and Nodules. Her voice sounds good. She’s a Champion.

Yes, she did lip some parts, I'm sure about that. But that's not a problem, most of the lipped parts here, she can sing and improvise in her concerts and hee tours, she just chooses not to improvise in televised performances because tv performances are too risky since it can catch most of the flaws or difficulties that could occur. She played safe in this performance. Come on! Even Rihanna, Ariana, or any other artists lips some parts of their songs or evwn dodge it especially when the song is a song that they havw released and sang YEARS ago! Everybody SHOULD KNOW THAT! Even us regular people, we used to hit those notes that are waayyy up there! But now some of us can't, there are certain vocal registers that we used to enter with ease, but now we can't. That's how it is! Ariana used to hit the whistle register, but now she's struggling, hence she uses her falsetto. Aren't we all done with the whole "Mariah Carey can't sing" yet?
Turn your speakers up! Nearly EVERY time she was lipping you can hear her faintly projecting whistle register. Most evident in 'WBT' sustained note at the end - you can hear same note an octave up. Nearly every time she would lip, you can hear whistles, simply cos she's still pushing out air as she's doing so, to ease right into her live notes.

I don't have an issue with her lipsynching either, but I feel that Mariah's live performances suffer from it because she can never truly be in the moment. Look at any performance where she's confident and in good voice, like her incredible Thank God I Found You performances from Las Vegas... She isn't worried about hitting her lip synch cues. She's working the stage instead of being glued to her microphone stand. I think her lipsynching massively diminishes her stage presence.

she sang the we belong together part. its not that hard for her to hit those notes. why ? because its a completely different part of the voice thats used for those super high mixed belts. without the microphone she would actually be really quiet and the power behind it literally comes from the mic. the most difficult notes for her to sing are the notes that lie around her 2nd and third bridges. why ? because thats the place where there is the most uncertainty. its kind of like yelling really loud then going higher and higher, eventually your voice will come to a break where it will crack. mariah carey used to be able to push through this continuously which gave her a massive edge over other singers when singing but as she aged her vocal break have appeared and increased in size. she still has her range, its just not full. like drawing i line with some dots in it. perfectly normal for a 48 year old.
Love mariah but what she does is she records like 3 or 4 versions of one song. For example she recorded we belong together but she records it different each time so when she lip syncs it dosent sound like the studio version. She also has like 5 different versions of the whistles in emotions thats why it sounds different each time

She's really insecure and hardly confident on stage but Always Be My Baby she was actually confident and that was promising for what's to come from this year. But she sounded a lot better during her recent Vegas shows anyway. She's a lot less nervous when not on TV; most artists are like that but it's more obvious with her

If Mariah would lower the key for her live performances and then just hit the whistles for the high notes she's known for she would be even better. I grew up singing and am taking vocal lessons now to increase my range. I know from experience that it's easier to hit whistle notes than it is to sing in the 5th octave some days. I can hit a G6 like nobody's business, but ask me to just belt a F5 or G5. I can do it but you gotta give me a minute 😂.

It's obvious when she's lipping, since there are accidental whistles in the background. She seems to have started doing Emotions (some) live quite a bit again. I doubted it at first but then I saw Fly Like A Bird this year and oh damn. I don't even mind rasp, I just love some confidence.

I love Mariah. She lepps in some parts, sometimes we can see that (It's like that, shake it off, aways be my baby...) and sometimes it's is hard to see (Emotions, we belong together...).
If I were her I'd record the hight notes in the same week, month to looks live and. In some performances she lepps with the record track and it sounds fake. But I love her so much, she did a amazing performance and I hope she have an amazing era.
When mariah lips certain parts such as belts, she often still pushes out air as if shes still singing to make it seem more real. Buuutt the problem with that is that it seems like she's closing her cords, which brings her noduals together. (Which is how she normally creates her whistles anyway) That's why like in we belong together or its like that, you can hear accidental sqeaking or whistling over the backing track. Its very clear that that IS whats happening when that happens. I think it's pretty cool if I'm being honest.

Yeah lamb conversations about Mariah lip syncing are usually had behind closed doors. When in the public eye, you're gonna get comments like "she sang 90% live". For this show she did mime the more difficult parts of the songs live, and the entire GTFO song (until the end). Mariah has like two obvious "tells" that true fans know when she lips.

I just watched your reaction again. It is on point. You underlined the obvious lipsynced parts. There is a huge change in tone and you just can't miss them. She's a legend with a fantastic body of work that has stood the test of time. With that being said, she can't sing anymore and we gotta stop giving her passes. Stop drinking. I hate to break it to you my friend, she sang WBT live. She’s been doing that for a while... you played yourself because you haven’t watched her since 2 years ago. This was mostly live all together. Mariah’s voice has actually been on the up for a while now. She’s sounding damn good. This video doesn’t really help her case because people would rather believe she lip synced to a track than she actually sang ... especially since she’s singing to her voice.
I think she only lipped some of those lines so that she would be able to hit the more important ones later; also sometimes when she drops registers (so effortlessly) her voice just melts into the background, the woman has perfect pitch lol
