watching this back almost 3 years later almost feels post-apocalyptic.. all the plans they had and that didnt happen because of obvious reasons and now their new album being out that probably wouldn't have been out (now) if life didnt go the way it ended up going.. feels weird to think about

Would be great if the interviewer directed some questions to Adam and Ross who contribute heavily and add an equal proportion of groove to this band . Saw them live with my daughter and the band was great 👍 , live sound was excellent, Ross’s bass playing was solid and punchy and grooving and Adam’s guitar parts were stellar. Just think they should be invited to contribute a bit more 🤔
I was actually mad when I found out that they have postponed their Europe Tour from March to October (because been waiting since last year and I don't know where and what I am gonna be and do in October???) but now I know that we will have 22 new songs AND possibly not gonna have another album for a while make me calm down and just wait patiently to whatever they will offer. I will be a good kid and wait for the masterpiece. They never and will not disappoint and we've been blessed by your music, so note to myself: do not complain sweetheart.
And to the whole band of the 1975 I think you guys are super cool super amazing I definitely look up to you all and I think you guys are doing unbelievable things

I have to say I’m a huge huge fan of this band but I’m disappointed with the new singles. People is mostly nostalgic for me as I was at Leeds fest when they realesed it and then was so exited when they opened with it, but as a song it’s not really up to par with previous singles like love it if we made it and give yourself a try. Frail state of mind is just too time if it was less poppy and less interesting, it just feels as if it’s about to take off and then never does, and this new single is mixed terribly for a start, Mattys vocals are almost inaudible at some point, and it just feels like a genric indie song. For a band that have always changed and pushed boundaries I’m disappointed with the idea that they’ve stagnated and not evolved. Just feel like everyone is blowing smoke up their arse instead of being honest with them, which I think they’d appreciate more
alex hurlstone I agree with some points you made. But in comparison to ILIWYS the singles for their last album weren’t strong. But they make albums. It’s a journey. Also, they are know for inaudible lyrics. Listen to chocolate, settle down, antichrist... it’s purposeful
Well People for them definitely pushed the genres for a mainstream pop band, and this song was purposefully mixed that way because it is suppose to have that old Midwest emo/ shoegaze sound which he mentions that the song was inspired by Vapour Trail by the band Ride, and that’s how the mixing for that song and all those bands are, not trying to like roast you at all but that’s just my take on it
alex hurlstone Id say people is the sharpest turn they’ve ever taken as a band. The production is off the charts and it’s totally subversive in the best way. Maybe it’s not your taste but critically these singles have been received very well. Frail state of mind isn’t stellar but People and Me and You together song are fantastic. A head banging rager and a warm song with radiates positivity and a reflection of simpler times. As well, the band have been outspoken about the fact that the produce ALBUMS. I’m not even giving them false praise I truly love two of these three singles so far. Me/you is one of my favorite songs they’ve ever released. We’re only three singles in so don’t let your distaste of these three soil the album for you.
I think by now most 1975 fans know that if any sound isn’t super crisp or sharp, it’s intentional. There’s a lot of stylistic influences they’re pulling in on top of their progressions in songwriting and production. If they wanted to do another She’s American or Settle Down, they could. We might still get that. This newer guitar style - starting with the really overbearing feedback-y guitar on Give Yourself a Try & Inside Your Mind extending into People.... the slightly over-mixed fuzz of It’s Not Living & Me and You Together... there’s way more directions we’ll see with Notes. What’s the progression from the acoustic plucks of Be My Mistake or Heads and Bodies, or a Petrichor, or a I Like America? We know they’ll try almost anything new to stay far away from going stale - and for that I’ll always be a massive fan of them.
