    This is the best amp demo I ever seen.
    Every amp demo should be like this. We can really ear all the possibilities of this amp with 2 essentials kinds of guitars.

    MY DREAM AMP!!! OMG!! Always wanted one- the AC30, creamy dreamy when clean.
    Warm, dirty tube sound when driven without going overboard.:) (Salivate)!!!

    Ha, been looking at AC30CCH heads on Reverb. Found this review. Pretty funny in that it looks like a 1960s version of a modern amp demo BUT it's really well done. Clearly and succinctly explains every feature of the amp with good visuals and playing, without wasting a lot of time.

    @PBANDSNOW the one this guy is playing is a combo.
    It has both the head and cab in one.
    The head is where the power and tubes are, also where you control the sound.
    The cab is just a speaker
    A stack is when the head is on the top and the cab is on the bottom.

    I've had mine for 5 years, gigged with it at least once a month and practice a few hours a week, never had a problem. Thing weighs a metric fucking ton, but sounds fantastic. If you buy one and plan on playing out with it, I highly recommend buying a road case.

    I've also got a TE Speedtwin head, which had the original tubes for ~10 years. (a short within the amp killed those in the end, sadly wasnt just a tube failure).
    I don't know anyone who follows the change the tubes each year approach. As long as you handle your amp with care, and don't cause mechanical failure, you're tubes will be fine for well over a decade!

    VOX is what my ears love best. They just sound sweet. I used to have a 100 watt Randall Hybrid Head I thought sounded sweet but it was not near as sweet as some of the tones I get out of my little VOX AD30VT. The AC Custom Classics are ICONS of Classic Rock. The tonal flexibility is killer on these little puppies. I just wish they came in a 100 watt head.

    I really think that these amps are THE best, for the classic rock sound I am seeking. I had a nice Kustom amp, in the late 1970s, but that was an era of extreme unpopularity toward tube amps, and few choices, so I had no choice. The Kustom was good, but these Vox shown here are the best for true sounds especially for Gretsch, Ricky, etc.

    You have a right to your opinion and so do other people as well. There is no truth about it; you may think these new one's suck but someone else may have a completely different opinion.
    As to the sound of the amp i think it sounded great. I loved the nice sound of the strat with it.

  • @as17ns22
    @as17ns22 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, its true that the new ones are made in China, but... surprisingly, they sound pretty much on par with the 60's ones.
    The difference is mainly in the craftsmanship, and the fact that the old British ones were hand-wired. But with the alnico blue speakers and a lot of really useful tone features on the new vox custom classics.. they're pretty much the best "new" amp out there right now.

    for one thats a reasonable price even though im a marshall guy id say is the 100w custom plus from vox. its kinda like a ac-30 and a marshall super lead in one. it doesnt sound exactly like either but is damned close for the cost of the head.

    You can't control overdrive with a footpedal, because it's not a "feature", you get the mud when you take master down and volume up. The AB footswitch (I have) selects reverb and tremolo.

    If your getting the Vox Valvetronix combo my advise would be to buy the one of the Blue series AD60VTX or AD60vt. These amp are far superior to the chrome voxes more amp models, effects etc... The blue series has now been discontinued but they are still available at discount prices.

    i beg to differ. i have an ac30 cc. just turn the normal or top boost all the way up and modulate with the master volume - pure overdriven bliss. Libertines, Babyshambles, it's what they use. no, it's not metal "distortion." it's beautiful overdrive that only a class A tube amp can provide.

    Hey there! What kind of music are you trying to play (examples of bands?). VOX's "Over the Top Boost" works great with these amps and will crank up your overall gain levels. And of course, there are a variety of other distortion boxes that when run into the "normal" channel of a Custom Classic, will scream.

    Heya! Well I'm looking to be able to crank it to Reuben/Biffy Clyro/Deftones distortion levels, i.e. modern, fairly saturated distortion. Metal chugging isn't really necessary, I just want a nice tight modern distortion with real power behind it, the overdrive in the clips sounds a bit more suited to classic rock, but I've been looking at blackstar pedals and am assured they're great! I just can't get enough of those buttery cleans on the VOX!

  • @davidschwartzguitar

    This would be my amp of choice were it not for one glaring design flaw: the layout of the tubes. Changing tubes on an Ac30 is like performing quadruple bypass surgery. Granted, I have never had a tube blow up on me during a gig, but if a tube were to kick the bucket, I want to be able to change it in under 2 minutes. This is why I usually use a Twin Reverb. The sound of an Ac30 with the layout of a Twin Reverb would be a dream come true for me.

    I agree with getting the amplifier bias'd with each retube. But I disagree with the changing the power amp tubes every year and the preamp tubes evey 5. Most tubes have a life span in the order of ~50,000 hours where they will remain within nominal operating specs. My SVT (which is a great example of a high voltage amp, really pushes those power tubes), had it's original power tubes from '89 til '05. And it was a hussy (rent out amp). Was def. used frequently!

    • @kimhansen6384
      @kimhansen6384 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is an old repply, but an AC30 has cathode bias, which means it biases itself automatically. But it is a good idea to buy matched tubes.

    no, the speakers make absolutely no difference in the volume of the amplifier. the head is what supplies the wattage and volume. technically, a combo is a head built into a speaker cabinet. theres different speakers with higher and lower wattage ratings, but all that does is increase or decrease the headroom before the speakers distort.

  • @theredraven

    @DudeXMyster It depends on what kind of product you're talking about. Hornby (the model train company from the UK) gets its stuff made in China and the quality if anything has gone up to an incredibly high standard. Maybe it's the same for Vox. On the other hand, it could be tat. I doubt it would be tat considering it's a £700 amp. I imagine they are built by the more skilled part of the Chinese workforce.

    @12345678ix
    You're asking a lot of one single amp. The vox ac30 should come close though, especialy if you get a booster/od pedal for those hardrock tones. The cleans of the Marshall jcm's are just horrible. A 50watt 'old school' Marshall might work too I guess (1987x, 2160x, jtm45,...). You'd also need a pedal for Slash type of tones though...

  • @17blue
    @17blue 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    All amps should be re-biased / bias checked every time tubes are changed/ replaced. If amp is under frequent heavy use i would sugest replacing power tubes at least once a year (preamp tubes should last about 5 years) otherwise you should try and change your power tubes every year if you can. You should be able to notice sagging and depreciating sound quality when tubes are dying. hope that helps.

    You really don't need 100 watts. It's so overkill, esp. 100 tube watts. Most clubs don't let you play nearly that loud anyway. I have a hard enough time with 25 watts. Stage volume is a serious problem for sound guys. a nice thing with a low wattage amp is that you can actually turn it up.

  • @17blue
    @17blue 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well i gig alot (2-3 times a week) and im a complete tone freak!! :P and i also have my tubes running quite hot. I agree that i was over exagerating with changing once a year, for me i'd change them every 2-3 years. I build my own amps aswell and i feel that my amp is abit safer with a fresh set of tubes. But after all, gear setup is all personal opinion what works for one might not work for all.
