2018 Citroen C4 Cactus (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

  • 2018 Citroen C4 Cactus is a facelift. It returns to Citroen roots: comfort and quirkiness. Yes, the original C4 Cactus was also quirky, but hardly comfortable. Thanks to Progressive Hydraulic Cushion shock absorbers and comfortable seats the new Citroen C4 Cactus is a car you don't want to get out of. It is rough around the edges, but it's great to see Citroen back on top of its game again.

    Marek, nice reviews, keep it up. Pozdrowienia z Serbii!
    I bought this car new in April 2019 (Feb 2019 production), Shine (top trim level + Advanced Comfort seats/Grey interior), PureTech 110 and it's all I needed, I adore it.
    No issues with seat height adjustment lever at all. As far as rear windows opening mechanism, not carrying more than 2 people frequently so it was a non-issue for me. Although even with 4 or 5 people no one complained so far - it kinda helps get the airflow without draft for rear seat passengers, but you can always turn on the A/C which works great.
    Average consumption I get is up to 7lit/100km in urban conditions with sensible driving, around 6,5 on highway at between 130-140km/h (at more than 140 it's higher as Marek noted).
    With this engine I had no issues going on a longer trip with 4 of us (4 adults) in the car and full luggage compartment (vacation), it was able to keep up with no issues and overtaking is not an issue at all.
    The airbump would've been useful on the parking though, as some people don't care when parked next to you and opening their doors.
    Overall I'm very happy with the choice I made - if anyone needs more info I'll try to provide info here.

      How is the acceleration, does it feel sluggish or is it just about right?

    • @Ivan89Bg
      @Ivan89Bg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrBatisa I'm pretty happy with how it accelerates - in some cases of strong acceleration you might notice a 1-second turbo lag (doesn't speed up strongly in the same instant but after one or max two seconds it launches - this is usually resolved by changing one gear down), overall had no issues.
      Of course, the best way of seeing how it suits your driving style is to take it for a test drive :)

      I can relate, no issues at all! Of course you can find this and that, when you review it, but for life - where you do not sit in a car and just look around - everything works great. No distraction. AC is great, no use of changing the temperature all time. You stick with the 20-22 Auto all year, no questions asked.

      I am curious about your experience after couple of years. Are you still holding on to this car? 😅😅
      I am looking to buy 1.6 HDI version, currently only worrying about the leg room and overall space for the family with one small child (btw I am around 195 cm tall). Still thinking is this a good choice for the price

    I really like the fact that you are always able to highlight small details and particularities of each car you test, which can be important for some potential buyers. I drove this car recently, and although I liked it's style and ride quality I noticed some of the quality problems and functional shortcomings you mentioned in the video. I would also like to point out how weak and inefficient the existing air conditioner is, especially for the hot summers of my home country of Greece.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks.
      My test drive was during a heatwave in Poland, when temperature was in mid-30s. I didn't notice any particular deficiency in the AC department. Perhaps you have more experience, because it's hotter in Greece for longer periods, than in Poland.

    I surely forgive Citroën C4 Cactus its little flaws. Nothing really important to complain about.
    The overall build quality and reliability of PSA-cars is good.
    I speak from 7 years of experience with recent cars from Citroën and Peugeot. This car is really something special. It is extremely comfortable, strong enough, quite fuel saving and different from any other car. Next time I will be at the Citroën dealer I will check out the lever at the seat again. Last time when my wife and I adjusted the seat in the facelifted C4 Cactus no lever came off. Maybe we should try really hard next time.

      Got this car and not really missing the rev counter, for starters (until you adjust and are able to play-by-war - as the engine is not noisy) you can mostly rely on Gear change advisory notifications on the dashboard, but you'll adjust quickly. Momentum is available in a large span of torque (1750-5500 if I recall correctly) so you can't really go wrong.
