Beautiful horses, the stacks are not right

    • @Sam-xq9rp

The “stacks” are completely fine. “Big Lick” is a misnomer synonymous with soring, which has been illegal since the Horse Protection Act (HPA) of 1970. Modern Padded Performance horses undergo USDA inspections prior to shows with over a 95% compliance rate with the HPA. The pads and chains these horses use are in compliance with HPA guidelines set by veterinarians and the American Farriers Association. Both the University of Tennessee and Mississippi State University have done studies to prove that padded performance does not harm the horses or cause any long term damage. There is absolutely zero reason to hate padded performance in 2023

@@Sam-xq9rpEight years ago, another HSUS undercover investigation found evidence that the legs of every Big Lick horse in training at the stable were being covered in substances prohibited by the USDA from being used at horse shows.
Six years ago, the USDA found that 89.5% of horses tested at the Celebration were positive for prohibited foreign substances used to sore the legs of horses (or mask evidence of soring).
Two years ago, 13 of the 15 members of the Walking Horse Trainers Association board had histories of citations for violating the Horse Protection Act; three were on lengthy federal disqualifications meant to prevent them from participating in horse shows, while the other 10 had previously served disqualifications imposed by the USDA and/or the walking horse industry for alleged violations of the law.

      @@Sam-xq9rpstacks Are Not Ok
I've seen trunks full of weighted shoes with half or full hooves on them. Horses hooves and ligaments and tendons are not designed to with stand that kind of weights and stress. The USDA inspections are pretty meaningless. Sbow without the stacks and weights etc. and that would be fine.

@@Sam-xq9rpthey are absolutely abusive. Ethical veterinarians will not do inspections at these shows. Typically the ones that do are paid to overlook the abuse happening. Most horses that are used for big lick are dumped into the slaughter pipeline as soon as they are of no use to these riders. The people who rescue these former big lick horses find them with scars and hair loss from years of soring. Leg,feet, back and hip issues from the stacks. And others signs of obvious neglect and abuse. If you want to see how these horses end up check out horse rescue plus on TH-cam. They save these horses from the slaughter pipeline and help them. Some having to be euthanized due to how much pain they are living in. It is incredibly sad to see how most of these horses end up.

@@kristinbryant6669 Ha, meaningless? You really don't know shit about this industry. USDA mandated - Literally government mandated inspections are held at these shows. No horse enters a show ring without being manually inspected. The walking horse is the only breed that can carry a package. And I'm curious, just how heavy do you think pads are?

No animal abuse here. Read the HPA law of 1970. They have banned soring. Every single horse at these shows is strictly inspected by DQP officers from the USDA. A sored horse cannot compete and will be charged with a felony.

@@mentallyinsane445can I ask how they can find out if a horse is sored or not ,please? I've heard the nails holding the pads on ,go into the sensitive part of the hoof which makes them step so high? Thankyou

    • @mentallyinsane445
      @mentallyinsane445 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@iamahorsenut7541 Yes, there are usually more nails in the padding, but they do not enter the sensitive part, and there are 6 tests to ensure this.
      1. Locomotive Test - Can the horse move around freely? Perform a figure 8?
      2. Palpations - Does the horse flinch, pull away or show signs of discomfort? There cannot be excessive hair loss. Also ensures compliance with the scar rule.
      3. Shoe Measurements - Does it meet the heel to toe ratio? Are the pads made with correct material and meet the correct thickness?
      4. X-Rays - Ensures no further shoe violations and to look for coffin bone rotation.
      5. Thermography - Checks for abnormal heat patterns, which could point towards a sored horse.
      6. Blood Testing - Checks for numbing/pain medications.
They also do chemical swabs to check for illegal substances.

@@sixmercer2504 Big Lick is a term for soring, which has been banned for over 50 years. Soring is the use of chemicals applied around a horse's pastern, a way to cheat them into picking their feet up higher. Today, just the pads and chains are used, with the pads being 3-5 lbs (less than 1% of the horse's body weight) and the chains only being 6 oz (equivalent to 6 pencils). Padded performance horses are as well strictly inspected at each show. One scar around the pastern equals disqualification and a ban from showing.
