    Waiting for a table in San Francisco on a Sunday night in a very busy restaurant, I saw a familiar looking guy waiting to get drinks at he bar. It was Bob Weir of Grateful Dead. I said casually, I really like your music. We ended speaking for 45 min or so about everything but music. He was a real nice guy and even stole a breadstick off my table as he walked by later. Very cool. I was 20 or so nd only seen him from the pit at 50 shows growing up.

    "Ultra awareness", "collecting data all the time", sounds more like he was probably looking at the studio gear or something. He actually refers to "storing in his mind for future use", meaning experiences, sounds, I guess, for songwriting, recording. He even has an album called "Memory almost full".

  • @guillll
    @guillll 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

    That's such a sad story in a way. Imagine being Paul and being unable to have a conversation with someone without someone else telling them what to say, what not to say, how to act, etc. It's like he's doomed to never experience spontaneity ever again.

    • @Gorilla.Guitar
      @Gorilla.Guitar 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      wellll, you gotta try & put yourself in Paul's shoes & think about what he experiences on the daily. you've been at the very top of the famous, beloved celebrity list for over 60 years. EVERYBODY that you meet wants something from you & the rest are painfully obnoxious. saying the wrong thing, passing gas in public, digging a winner out of your left nostril when you think nobody's watching, etc all can end up as front page news & everybody's making a meme out of you. sounds fun doesnt it?
      that man, understandably lives in a constantly guarded state of mind with walls about halfway up. if your in a situation like JD was, and your already part of the same group of friends of people he trusts, he can obviously feel at ease & not so wary. the walls will probably come down. you would undoubtedly love the cash but that level of fame has to come with a very, very heavy price. it, in fact cost John Lennon his life. and George came close to losing his the ame way.
      to me, its completely understandable & acceptable.

    • @guillll
      @guillll 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Can't even imagine what it would be like to have Paul McCartney's level of fame. So famous, the most famous people are star struck in front of him. Musicians more than any one. So famous, that people stiffen up, act strange because they can't help it, say stupid things, cry, freeze, blubber nonsensical things, offer over-the-top praise, stare.... every single day he's ventured out since 1963. The hoops he must jump through to simply get people to relate to him on a more human level... must be exhausting. But, he really seems to be a happy warrior. And after all this time, has obviously gotten used to it and it's just his way of being. He's old now. Won't be with us forever. What a treasure.

      I've met many Rock Stars over the years and have never really been Star Struck. I never asked for anything like photos or autographs
      and the folks I met seemed comfortable with that...
      I was an employee of a known Rock Star in L.A. and from that alone I met a lot of people...
      To meet a Beatle I'm sure I would freeze up in a heartbeat!!! Pretty sure I would immediately become unable to speak!!
      To Ringo and Paul THANK YOU!!!!!

    Love the “ knocked their dicks in the dirt” comment. Humanizes the living legend. Love that Paul unweighted the jam session with “I guess we’re in a band now” comment. Wild. The dynamics of meeting a Rock god as another musician could be a very mixed blessing. A certain amount of ego and confidence in your ability is required.

I don’t know if I could have pulled myself together having a chance to play with him. He’s just such a huge part of music and not only my childhood, but my fathers. Musicians have the greatest jobs in the world. What they create not only lives on but it becomes a part of people’s lives in a way that allows them to make it personal. It’s a true gift.

    In the early 1980s, I worked for a Rock Star, who I won't name however, he told me about special project at The Record Plant.
    The group was The New Barbarians and that included Ringo Starr. My employer told me he could get me in to meet Ringo!
    It was all set, I would meet Ringo
    on Tuesday Dec.9. 1980.....
    Don't believe anyone doesn't know what happened the night before?.....
    So my heart was broken so many ways. Never met Ringo but, I will never miss a chance to see Ringo and Friends... Saw him once on his last tour and he is an absolutely great Showman!!!!!!
    Would love to see McCartney live but he an Ringo are probably just about at the end of their touring daze!
    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE "PEACE AND LOVE" MR. McCartney AND MR. STARR.
    YOU CHANGED THE WORLD FOR THE BETTER!!!!

    Could it be that rather than Paul having unusually high awareness, this guy was unusually aware of Paul? Because it's Paul. I remember an ex Wings member saying that when he first met Paul, it was like seeing a hologram. Because he'd seen photos of his face from every angle, with every expression.

    From 15:00 - Paul saying they had 4 great sets in Hamburg and then, back in the UK they only played for an hour so they took the best bits of each set. This is an insight I don't remember reading anywhere before and I've read so many Beatley books over the years.

    Watching this video helps me understand my daughter’s reaction when she met Taylor Swift. She was one of 89 fans to attend the 1989 album preview in Taylor’s parents’ home outside Nashville. She got to spend three minutes one on one with her hero, and dance with her and the other fans to the album and eat cookies Taylor had baked that afternoon. She said every girl (there were just a few guys) just immediately burst into tears upon meeting her, and Taylor hugged and comforted them for half the allotted time. But his mind blown reaction helps me get it, and yeah, some people are just bigger than life no matter how kind and open they try to be. Great story!
