Wanted to watch this movie, but had very low expectations and doubt I’ll get around to it.. there are so many other great movies out this month like Lord of the rings, anime, baby girl,and Nosferatu!
I guess I don’t understand why Sony doesn’t just mark these as write-offs the way WB has been doing. Not that I’d prefer that, necessarily, but these movies are obvious bombs. It can’t be the licensing thing because they already had Madame Web this year.
It's still such a shame to me they can't just make these as Spider-Man movies, or alternatively just make a Black Cat movie who does somewhat have her own story separate from Spidey. Venom could kinda work if they actually used things from the Venom comics, but it's mostly just effects. I do not understand why these exist. They can't be that profitable
I mostly enjoy the director of this film and hoped he could use this as a hit to give him some cloat for more interesting projects. Might go see Anime LotR instead.
I feel like "has virtually no distinguishing characteristics to speak of" could apply to ATJ himself. He's not a bad actor, but I've never been impressed or wowed by him. He's just a very generic leading man in virtually everything he's been in.

If I had to guess, the write off thing isn’t popular with filmmakers. No one wants to work on a movie knowing that a studio will just throw it away.
Venom franchise has shown they're not always bombs. So they're just chasing that I guess.
