They tried banning Meta Knight from tournaments back in January 2012, but the ban was removed for some stupid reason. The ban needs to return now that _Smash 4_ has rendered _Brawl_ completely obsolete and _Ultimate_ will make it even more worthless.

A lot of tourneys didn't enforce it since some top players would refuse to attend and there was just enough general Meta Knight players for tournaments to cater to them, rendering the ruleset ban pointless. It didn't help matter that Ice Climbers become the best character in Meta Knight's absence. Today, no one really takes Brawl tournaments seriously, so no one cares about that ban
