@@DR_1_1 I mean, that's kinda our job isn't it? If the designers are receptive to feedback and work with the programmers, it could work well.
Thats true, smart people can find its way through cluttered interface or complicated series of action. If you do software for security guard its needs to look like a big red button that does what he thinks it needs to do.
The requirements!!! It’s all about the requirements! I was working at a bank that shall remain nameless and they were, let’s say “legally ordered”, to develop a new …core… banking system due to how “rusty” and ineffective the current, quite old, one was (if you can’t figure out what institution I’m referring to you suck at Google). So a massive project was put together and what do they do? They get their requirements from lower level engineers that are in charge of maintaining the data flows and logic of the old system. So that they can then make a brand new system, using a newer development platform, that does everything the old system did in the exact same way. And did anyone involved actually know or understand why the software did what it did? No. But it met the legal requirements and employed a whole bunch of people are years!

lmao. That Gary Kildall/Computer Chronicles clip was interesting insomuch as Doug Engelbart himself (in an interview with Robert X. Cringley) said something to the effect of: "We* had links too. To be fair, philosophy includes things like mathematical logic (one of the most useful courses I took in undergrad, and I wasn't even a philosophy major lol).
As someone with a philosophy degree with a focus in aesthetics and logic who programs as a hobby; this guy doesn't understand any of the three. You get them sometimes in the field of philosophy: people who don't understand philosophy but are really pretentious about it. Give those guys capital and this is what happens I guess.
Did he just say Albert Epstein? Sometimes I feel bad for the guys he interviews. Do you let them in on the joke at the end? Either way, great content as usual. I'd like to see a sequel of your interview with the Rust Dev
apparently paul rony is real and a cofounder of kosmik, an infinite white board to store stuff instead of the classic folder structure. i also was curious about this, because i thought this was a parody of some kind
I agree, at first I thought it seemed kind of pointless but thinking more about it I can see it being a nice way to gather together research and notes and such. I just checked out their site and the cursor response is snappy on my base-spec M1 Macbook Air running Arc. Maybe they fixed some optimization issues.

One guy stole the TV, one the DVD player. Or what was the quote Gates threw in Job's face during an interview?
